Everyone has their reasons. That's not what this thread is about. I'm not interested in your second or third reason. Let's get to the heart of the matter.

What is your main reason for playing on p99?

If someone asked me that then I'd say the quiet part out loud. It's free.

What's your main reason?

There isn't a wrong answer. There is only your answer.

I played Asheron's Call in the "MMO golden era" of 99-04...knew EQ was a thing but it looked lame compared to AC.

RL homies convinced me to try P99....think it was around 2012/13. I asked them what the highest skill cap class was to play and thus made Toxigen an enchanter.

I don't play much anymore...but man it was a good run.

I played on live from 1999-2005. Part of it is nostalgia, and I prefer the old MMO systems.

I don't really like new MMO's that much. It's too easy to get gear, and I don't feel anything from the progression systems.

Free, decent community, nostalgia, too lazy to learn/dedicate time to a modern game. Love trying out different race/class combinations, every class is cool in their own way.

To me, it's all about escaping from reality and putting myself into a fantasy setting where I am someone that can make a difference in the "world" and in other player's lives. Being kind in the real world only leads to disappointment. Being kind in Project 1999 leads to teh f33lz. I feel as though I am surrounded by like minded individuals who share in my sense of adventure and camaraderie, and more importantly, my sense of humor. Everything isn't taken so seriously and the pressure of the real world is non-existent!

It's exciting and difficult with no real world repercussions, outside of the time that I lose. But I am not certain that is a bad thing. My time is my time, and I can spend it the way I want.

I choose to spend it in Norrath! Cheers friends!!

This is a great post. I honestly wish this would carry over to high value camps and the raiding scene. Like everyone stopping and recognizing that we're all a bunch of people who love EQ so much we're still playing it and we shouldn't be so harsh to one another in game.

Main reason? I guess because it’s time-locked and I have all the time in the world to explore every class in every zone etc.

Part of what makes EverQuest fun to me, are the classes and their diversity. Being able to explore the game on all of them has been a huge time sink, but it’s kept me busy ant entertained for 14 years.

As a casual scrub, it sucks in retail MMO’s to have everyone constantly rushing away from you progressing through the newest expansion knowing you’ll never catch up

Nostalgia, pure and simple. I could go on forever about how amazing this game is, even now. EQ pre-GoD was the best time I've ever had in all my years of gaming.

Nostalgia is an obvious answer, most of us played EQ or other old school MMO's back in the day. The more I play on P99 the more I realize that it's a lot like guys working on their cars. Our high end characters are sorta like Hot rods we drive around.

Because I played Everquest through beta and the first 3 expansion packs. I was unimpressed with Everquest 2 and played WOW later like almost everyone else lol. I am older, more nostalgic and believe the golden era of MMORPG's was Everquest! I am looking forward to the new green server launch to experience the expansion packs over time. I missed the first green server launch

I don't play anymore. Butt when I did it was because I could be an elf with titties. And magical healing powers.

Yeah, Aristotle essentially made that argument. That is why virtue is a habit, not an idea, as Plato, Aristotle's teacher, had claimed.

Being good = doing good actions in a regular manner, as in good habits, practices, customs, etc.

Every day I walk past this old lady's house. She suffers from neuropathy in her outer limbs. If she is out in her yard I stop and chat and prick her with a safety pin to check how far up the limbs the neuropathy is progressing.

That's basically how a "good person" acts. Arguing about what a good person is, is less time you can spend actually being good.

Go out and do good. Full stop.

Help people.

Yep. And it’s important not to think about if you’re able to “change things” or “make a difference” in some grand way that they would talk
about on TV when trying to sell you on a new war or tax.

100 percent of all meaningful change comes from you and I being kind to eachother, and not just to people that rub us the right way, or that we decide “deserve it” no one deserves it, people all need help and compassion so just do your best each day and if everyone did their best for eachother (and not just their corporate job) we’d all be living in an even more lovely place.

Though we might still fall short in the elf titties department but even that will be more tolerable.

I played from 1999-2002 while I was a teenager and it was just the most fun I've ever had playing a videogame.

And I don't think playing here is purely nostalgia, cause I played lots of other games at that age which I don't play anymore, but I still play this one.

came for the nostalgia and to do stuff i never did when i was a kid. i like "hard mode" games and p99 everquest definitely has that punishing/rewarding feedback loop. got invited to a raid guild that was newly forming and decided to try it out. ive completed just about everything there is to do, but stuck around because the game is built on community like no other. there is something fun about keeping your progress and being able to take a break and not fall behind and always be catching up. its fun to help other people get their first epic or kill their first dragon. its fun to get together with the homies you played with for years and kill some uber dragon that can easily wipe a prepared raid. but definitely the community. raiding isnt for everyone, but if you never tried it, you might be suprised to find it can be alot of fun.

When i was younger i played Dark Age of Camelot. I live in germany and this was the first MMORPG i have contact with.
Now 20 years later i was bored and was searching for something "new" that is also a old school game and not so easy like games nowadays.

well. i found Everquest Project 1999 ... my first login was with a dark-elf female.
and i was searching for the map :)
later, as a enemy shaman cast a blind spell on me i was thinking the game is broken , because the screen was black :)

I can not remember this happens in any other games i know so far.

Everquest is special ... it is hard and unforgivable ... i like this.

have some chars now ... a troll warrior level 52 and a shadow Knight troll level 51 ...
many chars below 50 ...

but until now i never make it to 60 ... :)
