Please tell me that Barradain poisoning emote is in P99, looks hilarious. Also, love the forced stone UI when handing in item from transparent view. So classic.

Great find! Really enjoyed watching those videos, was happy to see the warriors using jade maces and lammys, exactly how I remembered it. Our weapons didn't need procs! *shakes cane*

Totally agree! I've been using Internet Archive lately to listen to some old radio programs that can't be found anywhere else. It's a terrific resource and I'm glad you mentioned it.

Update post apologizing for VCR being dicey.
That's the kind of class I miss.

my brain immediately looks at that NToV Koi pic of the guild pulling it out of the pond and I get sad again about how this server rooted the dragons and made ToV an unplayable and unclassic zone

I'd like to see ToV be classic also, but we all know how cheesy fights would be in that zone if the staff unrooted the dragons tomorrow (because we saw what happened before the dragons were rooted ... and it certainly wasn't classic EQ raiding).
Everyone hates on the dragon roots, but instead of simply complaining I wish just one person would propose a way to remove them ... without bringing back the cheese with it.

we have come to the consensus multiple times that leashing dragons at nToV exit is the solution to solve the issue of multiple guilds competing in the zone at the same time AND solves the complaints people have of pulling to entrance
they can't implement this solution because rogbog is mia, is what it is but the solution is easy

Gotta love there is account named unroot that has been here since 3/22 with 10 posts, the guy is literally here to only discuss unrooting dragons :D
I was thinking same thing, all NToV mobs leash 100 locs from their spawn point, nothing is rooted that way you can reposition and/or split mobs but you can't do any train outs and have to fight everything relatively closely to spawn.
Imagine if multiple guilds actually had to work together on things like trips and not being able to kill vulak until they collaborate due to blockers (or even remove blockers and have vulak's call override the leash mechanic)

lol i can't remember my other account info, im Tofat on the server and have been pounding the table about this since it happened

p99 is cheese though, by design.
due to forever classic i'd argue the way every level 60 raider is BIS is way more laughable than cheesing Tov
until this place auto wipes at the exact second Luclin launches on the timeline from the day a server is started here, this is all beta testing custom nonsense and everyone is using infinite time as a cheat engine.
it's a casual theme park, and that's fine. but nothing here is classic so picking and choosing what things should be harder is insanely funny to me
when literally one line of code to auto wipe and restart the boxes on two dates fixes 99% of the problems people have

The (tiny) part of my programming brain thinks is easier to allow ToV dragons to summon without taking damage. Probably reduce refresh to 6 seconds.
You could still pull to exit but would be a slaughter fest

The purpose of the server was to have a museum of what EQ was, not have people play like they used too, sad to see the original vision squashed by some new young "talent"

To your point, training trash away like it is on P99 was not classic in the least. Pathing never worked that clean in era. So pulling to zone never was

There was not much cheese. Just was a lot more player skill involved. You just seem to think the way you played EQ back in the day was the way everyone played it.

I remember Lamentations and Jade Maces being a way bigger deal on classic than they are on P99 NGL. I assume it was because fast weapons = aggro.

Double lamentation was for some reason like, SUPER DOPE when I was on live in kunark. Everyone wanted them.
But like ive said in the past, we all just sucked at EQ back then :o
So probably just the idea of double lamentations is what everyone was after.

Fashion quest was huge on live. Everybody wanted non-generic graphics for their weapons.
That's what I remember at least. I was always envious of SK's because they got A Dark Reaver, which looks really cool. I was a Warrior on live.

Yeah it was pretty depressing to get a wep with good stats but it just looks like a brown stick.
On the flipside of that coin, noble robe is still the best looking robe in the game, but the stats are vanilla era nonsense. Resist mods that make absolutely no difference to what happens to you and five charisma! Better than nothing I guess, but don't make it look so cool.
Exe axe was the envy of everyone for a period too, even though it kinda sucks

I still firmly believe that players were dramatically more skilled in 1999-2001 than in 2025, and it's not even a close competition. For years I've watched players from the top guilds on P99 act like content isn't do-able without an Enchanter. In true classic I didn't even know what Enchanters were. Druids and other classes regularly used Root to CC mobs, and we didn't rely on charmed NPCs solo'ing content for us.
A significant portion of P99 players I know got PL'd to 60, refuse to play without POTG, and are insanely twinked in ways that would have been unfathomable in 2001. AFK leveling to 60 wasn't a thing. There was no dial a port. How often did players actually get a rez on true EverQuest? Probably never?
I can remember groups being insanely cutthroat because there was no PNP to protect people from toxic players (players weren't nice on real EverQuest, at least not on my server). Groups constantly stole pulls, would even follow you back to you camp to try and KS your group if you got a rare. There was no going AFK for 75% of the group, and then claiming you have to go because of wife aggro.
You sucked at EQ? You got kicked out of the group and replaced by someone who didn't. It was super easy to get blacklisted and bullied simply for being bad at the game. I honestly don't think most of these boomers would have much success if they were granted access to a time machine and sent back to 1999 and forced to play on the limited hardware of the time, and no access to wiki. I think they would get out-paced by the much younger, and much more cruel gamers, especially without a PNP to protect they furry little care bear ears.
All the cool stuff you see people do "solo" wasn't really a thing. I remember sitting at the zone-in of Sebilis surrounded by dozens of other players for hours, sometimes day LFG, hoping I could get a group. Zone was packed with at least 100 people around the clock with every nook and cranny being camped. The ability to AFK level 1-60 off of trivial content for maximum profit wasn't a thing. PNP wasn't a thing. And loot was dramatically more rare. Jade Maces cost 10K on my server. Sebilis Croaking Dirk's were 20K. I remember when I finally got mine and it was a huge deal. P99 is fun and I enjoy it immensely, but it's not classic at all.

One of my favorite screenshots I took back in the day was being in 4 person INT caster group with each different class and everyone having a very different look - Robe of the Elements, Oracle Robe, Shiny Metallic Robe, Green Silken Drape
