View Full Version : Finding Groups: The Everquest way a HOW TOO!

From time to time I see posts about how it is hard to find groups and that grouping on green is 'dieing'. I am posting here to help others find groups and enjoy the game we all love. All of the below tips are things I have done in the last year of this game with the pop around 500. I am an off peak player.
Don't just sit around an expect the LFG tag to do the work for you. Although LFG is useful it is not the best way to get groups. I still use the tag when looking but sitting around LFG is not very good unless its peak hours and your an in demand class(Cleric, Enc, or a tank).
Embrace that duo/trio groups are some of the most fun and enjoyable groups and are easy to build. I leveled a cleric very casually to level 53 mostly in small groups with enchanters, necros, mages and even rogues(fear kiting).
SEND TELLS. A lot of people in this game are willing to duo or start groups. Not every player is some anti social rude person who is going to be rude if you ask for a group. I build groups often with all types of classes.
Example:
I built a group in Qeynos hills with my ranger that consisted of a warrior and a mage and we did bandits in WK.
You don't have to be a cleric to form a group ad hoc. Taking the initiative to break the ice with strangers and form groups will take you a long way. I have grouped in beholders maze this way on my druid, grouped in sol b this way with some randoms, and even got a crypt of dalner group this way(even though we all got wiped at the end of the dungeon...I won't spoil how that happened I'll leave that for you to find out).
4. Add anyone cool as a friend. You'll have some friends that level super fast and others that level slowly. I have a very large friend list on all my characters. I would highly recommend wizard/druid friends. Not only will you get cheaper ports but they make getting groups much easier. I find this works better with wizards because they all seem bored to death soloing.
5. Join a leveling guild or large guild.
6. Post on the forums/reddit/discord to form parties for specific dungeons. I had multiple very fun and memorable nights in Tower of Frozen Shadow this way.
Everquest is a very social game and its best to embrace it. Being social and reaching out also is a great way to keep the server alive and strong. Happy Hunting.

Seems like this might be a good wiki guide, or an addition to https://wiki.project1999.com/Grouping_Guide

Your average EQ player isn't exactly a go-getter.

This is the most classic Toxigen response. You are a fountain of negativity on these forums. I rarely if ever see you contribute anything positive to any posts on these forums.

I should start adding more thoughts to the wiki. I didn't even see mention that you can divine aura into the hole pit on the wiki :)

The funny thing is, in the 5% of his posts where he's not trying to beat Ripzoko as the forum's saddest poster, he's actually super knowledgeable and helpful.

Good stuff. Add a 7th hitch
7) Get used to hearing "No thanks." Especially this far in the server, far less people are reliant on groups to level - most of the population is on a 2nd, 3rd, 4th.... 20th character, and don't like splitting exp, or think they will be carrying a group. Might take a while and you might try all day and still not have any luck - but try again tomorrow.

This has not been my experience. Today I got a 6 - 8 steamfont trio mills group together. One with a new player and another with someone who had a main that was 32. Casual players/New Players still exist and are totally willing to group.
I literally did a Dread lands trio last week with a monk, a necro, and my cleric and fear kited mobs in DL. This group was also both randoms and I have grouped with the Necro already again this week for 40 minutes and tried to duo the frenzy room in guk.
The friends list method also helps stop the days of no randoms being able to group. I'm not saying everyday you're going to get a group in under 30 minutes but most days for sure.

Im playing a ranger as my first character on green , started two weeks ago, and finding grouping is not a problem at all even as a class not in demand.

I mean, if you read it as if the glass is half full he is saying, "but some of them are real trend setters!" :o

Overcomplicated. What would be useful is an updated list of populated group XP locations. Most zones simply aren't worth visiting.
Eg.
Crushbone
Unrest
Oasis - Crocs
High Keep Basement - Goblins
CoM -
KC
Velks
- Do a /who all for whatever zone you want to go to.
- Slap up /LFG and do a shout out in /ooc and whisper any groups you find.
- Play on peak hours.
- Play Enchanter or Cleric. Don't play Wizard.
- Don't be afraid to duo or trio and start up your own group. Use /guild,

It already exists ... it just requires people to edit the wiki and keep it up to date:

my favorite part of the grouping guide is that is cuts to the chase that grouping is not worth it.

Just dumbly melee their mobs until the follow button appears on your ui. Especially effective if wearing a robe.

I would actually be cool if some of the cash camps started becoming pugged again.
I remember back in like 2015ish, you could go to seb and there'd actually be a group at king and you could have a shot to get in on that. Seems like for the past few years atleast there's basically nothing going on anywhere except KC.
I tend to hate grouping, but sometimes itd be cool to be able to go to seb on my bard or mage and actually be able to join a cash camp so it didnt feel like a waste of time.

Yeah, I really miss this too. I think I got two Fungis from Seb pickup king groups on Blue (I did it a lot).
Then they changed it somehow (not clear on the details) from being a group camp to a trio camp. And once something's a trio camp, no one wants to "waste" twice as many people doing it (if they can even get it).

duo camp these days
2015 - 2016 seb was amazing...could always find a group at a decent to fantastic camp
lots of hours spent full clearing CE back when it was considered / treated as a single camp with any decent group being able to full clear and have a nice little AFK before the golems popped again
now you have spergs lawyerquesting for a single spawn, sad times

Started my first character on this server this january.
While leveling up I saw the following:
Always something going on in crushbone.
Usually a group in upper guk.
Unrest always had 2-3 groups going.
Mistmoore always had pond/graveyard/CE busy.
Splitpaw often had a group at DD.
2-5 groups in COM always.
Sometimes saw a group in solB/Lguk.
Went to velks for 5th shawl and there was always at least an entrace group with a couple LFGs.
Karnor usually has LCY/RCY/basement camped with a group forming up at entrance.
Even saw groups entering HS.
This isnt the classic grouping experience anymore but there are still a lot of spots with PUGs if you want to lazily go LFG and you can still make stuff happen in more remote dungeons if you put a bit of effort into it.
