seems more like an internet routing problem, not a server problem or pc problem.
perhaps one of the upstream providers.
anyway, i kept trying, got the server listed eventually, and got on.
time out every other time i zone though, but can still get back on.
i'm sure it will clear up sooner or later

This is one of the problems I had today.
Zoning from Cauldron to Unrest, I went LD. Closed the app and eventually got back in to blank server list. Restarted the app, got to character select, and I didn't have the patch anymore. This has happened twice.

ive never had an issue till the day of the patch, i would think that if it was my provider it would have happened on and off prior to the patch..anyone else have a solution?

This usually means there is a network problem. Either your network is blocking port 5998 or your router may just be having issues that need to be corrected. If you live in a dorm or are playing from a public network, it is probably going through a proxy and that means they are most likely blocking port 5998, so you won't be able to play. If you are playing from home and have control of your internet connection, then the problem is probably either with your router/modem or with your PC. First, make sure that you don't have a firewall or any other security programs running that might block your connectivity in any way. Next, make sure you aren't forwarding port 5998 to any PCs on your network (this includes port range forwarding that would include port 5998 in the range). If not, next you want to try powering down your modem and router. Then power up your modem and wait until it gets a connection. Next, power up your router and wait for it to connect. Last, reboot your PC and try connecting to EQEmu again. If that still isn't working, then there is a good chance that you need to reset your router or router/modem back to factory defaults. Most modems have a sunken in button that you can hold down to reset it to defaults. Check your product documentation for how to do it. Once that is done, set up your router again and try connecting to EQEmu again.

Try googling WinEQ2. Its a program that essentially runs EverQuest in windowed mode (although you can expand it to fill your screen like normal.) This resolved 99.9% of all my early P99 crashing problems.

I Tried to find wineq2 in the past and only came up with a pay version. Is it free or is there a fee for the program. Any help would be appretiated, also if im using the Duxa all in one thingy...is that the same or is that different then wineq2

WinEQ2 is free. You have to REGISTER on their site. But that's because you have to log in to their services when you run the program for it to work. It's free, otherwise.
Also, Duxa's is not the same thing.

I think there's a WinEQ and a WinEQ pro. Just get the regular version.

only because Im feeling helpful today
http://www.eqemulator.net/wiki/wikka.php?wakka=PlayGuide
scroll halfway down and the issue you're having is definitely isp related. same thing happens to me at times. I have to turn off router for 30mins and reset computer. Usually fixes it, if not then wait longer.

In your eqhost.txt file, located in everquest install directory ( default is C:\program files\Sony\everquest\ )
Host=eqemulator.net:5998

Thanks for the help guys. I located and checked the file in question -- everything is fine in there, port is correct etc. Router was rebooted, etc. Not sure what the problem is, it's worked fine for the last year or so, and with no changes to my system all of a sudden nothing works eq-wise. I've been getting the servers listed SOMETIMES, but if I do the game crashes when it's trying to login. Or it's a blank server selection screen, or when trying to connect to the login server it gives error it cannot connect.
I don't feel like messing with it further, but thanks for the replies.

Well, I wasn't going to do it just to play EQ, but I started having more and more connectivity problems with no idea of fixing them, so I just said screw it and reinstalled XP. Can now connect to EQ again.

I am now also having these problems after the latest patch, I would crash frequently and upon trying to log in the server list was gone, but trying again usually worked.
Well it finally took a shit this morning and my server list has been gone for 2 hours no matter how many times I try to log in.
I've already checked the host files etc, etc. I've always used wineq2. I haven't changed anything regarding my internet connection or my game files in weeks and It's been working just fine until the last couple of days.
Resetting my router/comp does nothing.

Any fix to this? Tried opening port 5998, checked eqhost file, download and using wineq and still can't see servers. This is on my new alienware m11x r3. i can log in fine on my desktop without wineq so thinking its something on laptop.

This always was eqhost file for me. Or just relogging. It's possible it is your connection, or such too.

my eqhost file has the right settings as listed in the guide. relogging does nothing and i can log in perfectly fine on desktop but cant on laptop so not a connection issue. i'll just reinstall it later i guess.
