I would not want to offend by being cheap but I am poor so ... :o

I don't expect to port anywhere until 10p or so is pocket change. Even 10p is being cheap, but I wouldn't expect it's worth a mid-20's druid/wizard time for any less.

I call 20pp the norm. There are times when I don't have that much on me though and also times when I tip more.

20PP = norm, some will actually CHARGE you 25 a person, but its mostly 20 atm...

It looks like im walking! Only lvl 8 with about 19pp (just upgraded to leather armor bought from a vendor). Found a Split Paw tunic on a vendor also for 4pp and a bronze bracer for 7pp! Once I hit lvl 9 I was going to try to do the Cure for Lempeck quest for the Shinning Star of Light so I am Qeynos bound with a stop over at Misty Thicket.
Thanks for the feedback.

I tip 25pp as a ranger, my main is a druid.
I don't charge people for ports but if they want to donate im more than willing to take free money but I probably port for free twice as often as I take a tip.

Agreed. As a wizard, I never charge for ports; but accept and greatly appreciate the tip :]

Im cheap as hell because I can't solo anything decent. I usually offer a free corpse drag or lock pick for ports/rezzes.

It's very rare that I /auction or /ooc for a port, but when I do I offer 40pp minimum. Most of the time I just make the run and don't bother people.
I guess it's just a personal thing, but it bugs me when I see people shouting 'WTB Port to Lavastorm from Sro' or something like that. I guess I'm old fashioned and used to taking care of things myself.

It depends on how badly you need a port. I do 50pp for "I could walk if I wanted" to 200pp for "get me the hell there now".
nalkin
03-15-2010, 02:05 PM
I usually pay 50p for a standard port. I have never been in a situation where I need them immediately but if so I would probably pay more.
Similarly, I usually pay 150p for a 90% rez if the body is at a zl. I pay more if its very out of the way or a major inconvenience to them.

For rezzes, I try to pay at least 100pp, and more if any kind of effort is required of the cleric. If a cleric has to look for/drag a corpse, run across zones, etc, you shouldn't even be asking unless you're willing to donate at least 100pp.
For instance, I was doing 90% rezzes the other day for donations. Got a tell for one in Mistmoore, so I got a port (which I paid 20pp for) and ran over there. Did the rez, got a "thnx" as he logged. This is not acceptable. It's fine if the corpse is at my feet, but traveling to a different continent for one rez while getting nothing for it will get someone added to my "list".

Of course you don't need to shout for a port, Trimm, because you got a guild full of druids. Sorry I haven't been online recently to offer my taxi services.
Oh, and since they are all taken out of context anyway, here's one for your sig:
Trimm is 103% correct, everybody listen to Trimm.

porting is mostly reserved for high end players organizing... you shouldn't really need to port if you plan ahead were you will be leveling with your friends, also post 30 its pretty much there for when you want to get into a group you've been waiting on to get like a drop or something... after a month on the server you will accumulate enough plat for ports etc probably
Its part of going from a begger on the streets to pimpin your EQ lewtz and powerz ... part of the classic game... havin ports is like having a fleet of leer jets
xp grinding pro's don't port unless they have to =)

While this is true, I really don't ask for ports in guild unless someone offers first. I understand that druids and wizards get a dozen tells for ports a day and I don't feel like bothering anyone.

Anything 10pp or more, is OK when I'm porting. As long as there is some kind of tip it's fine...it's the people that send me tells saying "hey let me buy a port to BB" then they just run off afterwards, that annoy me.
But ya, I'd say the average is 20pp or so.

As a cleric, I rarely had to 'pay' for ports. Most wizzies/druids did them on the house especially if they were porting me to rez someone. Invariably, if they charged I'd find their corpse soon enough and I'd rez them for free just like always. Funny thing, they never charged me after that lol.
Funny Rez story:
I get a tell one night:
Darwyn: Dude, run to the ring.
I was in some godforsaken zone, I don't even remember... I trot off to the druid ring and Greymaan appears with a naked Darwyn.
Me: Dude, you're naked
Darwyn & Greymaan: Don't ask....
We port to Misty Thicket.
Me: Dude, Misty?
Darwyn: You can't tell ANYONE about this.
Greymaan: Man, you can't keep stuff like this quiet.
Me: WTF?
We run down to the RV zone tunnel and there lays a Darwyn corpse.
Me: Ok, if you want a rez, I want an explanation.
Darwyn: Dude, no.
Me: Ok, gating.
Darwyn: sigh, Ok, we were porting out and I started a nuke on the guards, I mistimed the nuke and it went off WAY too early, hit the guard and he killed me before the port went off...happy?
Me: ....
Me: ....
Darwyn: You gonna rez me now?
Me: Can't see tears blocking eyes
Darwyn: Tears?
Me: laughing pain face and ribs
Darwyn: It's not that funny
Greymaan: Yes, yes it is.
Darwyn: Hush!
Me: can't breath
<time passes>
Darwyn: Ok, it's been like 10 minutes, get with the rezzin
Me: Wait, a minute longer
Me: Ok casting, I can see again, whew, that hurt
Darwyn: DIAF
Greymaan: Ok, porting....want to try that again Dar?
Darwyn: omg stfu
Me: Don't die zoning to Freeport or anything
Darwyn: OMG I shoulda eat the death.
Greymaan: You couldn't, someone would have noticed you were 49.
Me: OMG You lost a level? HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH

There's so many druids on this server right now, and the problem is most of them are greedy morons that just made there char to rip people off on ports or just flat out don't know how to play a druid.

Yea, I have no problem porting for free, as long as the person let's me know he doesn't have the money...It's when they say they wanna buy a port or that they're paying, then they just take off, that annoys me.

This is truth. I remember when I joined this server and was guilded into GC, Pikler would pull up in his limo and take me where I needed to go. I am in Transcendence now raiding multiple times a week, but I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Pikler and his guild for taking care of me when I first started.

I only port for donations. Some people don't donate, that's fine. Some people give a few pp, which I often refuse and let them have a free port. But most of the people donate between 10-20pp, which I tend to always accept.
Then there are people who advertise they are going to pay as certain amount in Auction or ooc. Which is often 50-100pp. Probably because they can't find a port or they need to go somewhere asap.
Then there are also people who simply donate a lot. These are mostly level 50 top level guild people. The most I got was 150pp I think.
So I would say the norm really is the level. The higher the level the more people donate. But a norm would imply a requirement to pay, which is often not the case.

As a druid I get my money from quadding Hill Giants, not porting. So as long as Im not busy, or afk, or watching porn, or making forum popcorn, or raiding, or playing something else while I med, I normally port for free. Since im pretty much bound in Rathe, doesnt take much to pop over, and pop back. However, if someone puts up bling in the trade window, I dont say no.

Do I "want" to go somewhere?
-ask a guildie or walk
Does my guild need me?
-ask a guildie or walk
Does my guild NEED me?
-do /who all druid/wizard 40 50, offer 200p to each for first-come-first-payed drop-what-you're-doing V.I.P. transport
Am I near a ring/spire with a porter nearby?
-ask nicely for port, if not asked for "donation" (fee), give 30-50 on arrival depending on my stack
EDIT: also, thank all of you badass druids and wizards for the countless free CR ports you all have given me over the months!!

As someone who played a druid for years let me give my advice. If you have a special circumstance (trying to get from toxulia to commons at level 8) and only have 19 pp to your name. Offer the wiz / druid 15 plat with the explanation that it's all you have. I know if I had the time, I wouldn't turn you down.
That being said, the problem isn't the amount of money you give, it's attitude. When you see a well known trader who you know has thousands of plat, and they give you 20pp for a tip, you really don't want to port them ever again. But then when a person begs you for a free one for a CR, you're likely to do it.
it will eventually drop im sure
Why? Will Druid/Wizard's time become less valuable in the future? If anything I see it going up as 20p becomes a smaller and smaller relative figure.

who you know has thousands of plat
..careful with this one..
I might be able to offer 200pp for a port IF it's an emergency, but I have averaged about 1500-2500pp to my name the entire time I've played this game, and right now I have about 1k.
I generally give away for free any kind of loot I get that I don't need, and I don't do a lot of farming right now, so I hardly ever have money.
The 30pp I muster for a tip could have bought me another couple stacks of cactus pie, and I'm hungry more often than not.
I'm not taking away from your "known trader" bit, I see what you mean, just wanted to add a caveat to your comment about knowing people have money, coz I'm constantly poor and a lot of people might assume otherwise.

Rezzes...100p-500p depending on where and how bad I need them, lol.

Welll honestly I'm not active enough to mean on this server. But back when I played on Luclin server we had this one asshat of a trader named Raulpiley who absolutely dominated the market. He was trying to make some rediculous number like 10million plat and he would absolutely screw over everyone that he could. Doing things like buying up all the bonechips in the bazaar then reselling them for 15pp a stack, undercutting everyone by coppers just so his name would be on the top, etc etc etc.
I ported him once, and he was about to run off without any tip even tho he contacted me and asked if he could "buy a port." When I asked him as he was running off, he came back and gave me 10pp. Shortly after that the server port community decided to black list him. By then there were luclin spires so it wasn't as big a deal.
/shrug
Anyways, this was the guy that eventually got levitate banned in Bazaar, because our server was the one that figured out you could levitate someone then push them into the Arena. We had an asian guild that used to kill him CONSTANTLY once we got the trick down.

Since it's bumped, I say that a EJ port from EC should always be over 50pp, if not closer 100.
1) Only high levels travel there
2) It requires the druid to run across the largest Kunark zone
3) It requires two ports to be made
4) It requires a levitate (to anybody who goes to DL regardless), and I usually Camo myself
5) Porting into EJ is like coming out of hyperspace in an asteroid field. My weak druid has nearly died multiple times just porting in. You have to take precautions to go there safely: SoW up, Skin on, and gate memmed.
Compared to ALL other porting zones in the game, EJ is by far the most pain for a porter. Using that logic, a larger donation should be respectably expected.
That said, I always respond to EJ requests in EC even if no price is listed. I will delay other ports in order to take care of an EJ'r because the potential for reward is that much higher. I feel the community does a good job of weighing their donation, and I am happy with any donation >= 20pp. However, 100pp to make the haul to EJ makes my day!
After Kunark's initial launch, I bound myself in KC. The amount of high-rollers traveling through there made it worth just sitting in KC and DL rather than EC. Today though, EJ jumpers are less frequent so I am re-bound in EC, making the trek a little more difficult.

A druid/wiz that shouts saying they're porting, or one who responds to my /ooc about looking for a port typically gets a smaller donation then one that I /tell.
Yes, I'lll /tell random druids/wizards for ports and offer a specific PP amount for doing the port, if they're busy or don't respond I /tell a different one.

This is basically the only way I get ports...if you make educated guesses about who is busy I find most people are more than happy to pick you up. I usually do a flat 50pp if I am soliciting them out of the blue.

Back when I was about level 25 on my main, I /ooc needing a port from OT to NK. Some druid replied he could take me. When we met up and I offered him 25p he asked if I was a monk. I didn't get it at first. Then after he dropped me off and started sending me nasty tells about being a cheap bastard and cursing, I realized what was going on.
I think his exact words were ports are 50p minimum and 100p if he had to run anywhere. I tried to explain I was new to the server and if I had more to give I would but he just kept ranting. Kind of made me sad that someone would act like that.

As a wizard my expectation of a tip is really contingent on your character. If you're an obvious noob sporting raw hide I don't expect much.
If you're sporting a fungi tunic and tip 10 plat - I might just drop you off in Tox.
