View Full Version : Small Minotaur camp in Steamfont?

I've read numerous older posts stating there is a small, 4-spawn, minotaur camp in Steamfont that is no where near the cave. Is this still true? The descriptions say it is to the left of the zone in from lesser fay, but the only camp I've found in that area is a Kolbold camp. Thanks in advance

I haven't been since the zone was changed in the most recent patch, but previously to get there from lfay you would just follow the left wall. It's not far at all

okay thanks. Looks like they nerfed that just like they nerfed the bodyguards in Highkeep. Just hit 55 on my monk when the patch hit and I was looking forward to farming the bodyguards, but nope.

I'm sure they didn't nerf it. This is not the kind of thing that would be nerfed. It's classic. I'm going to go look right now and I'll post a screenshot.

Nope, it's true. I stand corrected.
According to the most recent patch notes, https://project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=435923:
Telin: Steamfont Mountains has been reverted to its classic version. Including removing a large spider, a giant spider, a giant rat, a runaway clockwork, a gnome slave, a coyote, and a small coyote. Added a kobold and steam elemental. Removed additional kobold and slaver camps. Updated loot, level ranges, pathing, and spawn placeholders.
Telin: Corrected Crisyn’s, Bryola Bendil, Watchman Dreeb’s appearance.
Telin: Corrected Byrola' Bendil's and Jogl Doobraugh's faction.
Telin: Added missing emotes to Brona Frugrin, Frugo Prigdish, Watchman Mylz, and Bryola Bendil.
Telin: Added missing fire breath to Lesser Ebon Drakes and disease proc to rats in Steamfont Mountains.
But let us remember: this wasn't changed because P99 devs thought there were too many camps, or that Steamfont Mountains was too hospitable to leveling. Their philosophy is to restore what is classic to 1999-2001 EQ whenever possible.
If we thought there should be camps there, we were wrong.

The camp of four minotaur slavers is now gone:

Some of the Kobold tents/camps, which would have been around the back left and right side of this screenshot, are now gone:

Let us not complain or petition or protest; this is the EverQuest we came here for. 1999-era EverQuest.
And I'll see you next server, btw.

Yeh, It is really strange similar to removing bodyguards in HK. I really dont get it. I havent been here very long, but long enough to have a 55 monk, 40 druid, 22 SK and 14 ench with a lot of afk time.

Why is it strange? Do you have evidence the body guards were there in live Everquest from 1999 to 2001?

Slavers were an awesome camp but on eqatlas they don't show on the map or mob list so yeah, bye bye. Can't tell about bodyguards.

The body guards were removed because they were out of era. It was in development and not era restricted when the previous patch dropped, so they were available since that time.
Furthermore, the body guard camp didn't include all possible spawns. Based on my research, these were removed by November 1999, so you can expect to see the same on future iterations of servers.

Thanks Nilbog. So to clarify, the BGs are in there at launch but are gone in November 1999 on the timeline?

A couple weeks ago I was running around SF for over an hour trying to find the camp. I thought I was really losing it... then I read the patch notes lol

Was the Red server intended to also have future iterations in the same way Blue had Green? I missed out on the opening of all three servers unfortunately. If a future iteration of the pvp server is launched would there be a different/specific ruleset like the original Zek servers had?

I'm surprised this got changed, but it is indeed classic. There was only the 1 Kobold camp in that area during Classic and it was hotly contested most of the time.
That said, it's better for zones to have more content. The extra kobold camps and the minotaur camp should have stayed in IMO.

Unfortunately their goal isn't improving the past; only replicating it. Likely their present is so compelling that they cannot imagine that any alterations of the past could result in anything but disappointment - well except when we leverage our knowledge of the past to benefit ourselves. That shit gets nerfed asap. (recharging, aoeing, etc.). I get that they disrupted the process but you can't really say classic. Don't even get us started about that thing they call red99. Most of us are here to change our past; to punch out the bully and kiss the prom queen but were in Biff's world and here he's banging your mom and you ain't shit to him...
Whoops! Did Iiii do that?
Maybe your dad is the bully?

I saw some experimental archaeologists trying to make a celtic chariot so they could better understand the technological problems and solutions of bronze age island peoples. I remember one of the students also added a NO2 button, spoiler and sound system because why wouldn’t you want to improve things of the past.
