Don't mind a bit of girl power - similar complaints were levied against Liv Tyler in FOTR but her delivery of "if you want him, come and get him" always bring my tear to my eye (and no, I'm not being snarky here)!

However, part of the draw of LOTR to me is how the stories are of country bumpkin everyman getting over his head in a whimsical adventure but doing their best to do good, even if they take a few missteps on the way.

For this reason, I'm struggling to be drawn in to the new cartoon.

The focus seems to be on the great heroes, figure heads of powerful institutions struggling to maintain their grip on power. The animators also seem to have wanted to have done Battle of Pelinor Fields and other classic scenes, which is fair but makes it feel like maybe the cartoon's own cinematic are unable to stand on their own merit (or at least without echoing live action /cgi sequences we're already familiar with).

I'm more interested in the guy who likes life's simple pleasures of meek existance, but is capable of heroics when pushed.

I'm sure I'll end up watching it eventually, it just doesn't draw me in. Perhaps because I'm not really familiar with what the story will tell or the characters. Honestly, the Dunlendings kinda feel like the more interesting focus - thrown out of their own lands and struggling to get the recognition they seek. It is easy to see how they sided with Saruman's insidious tongue, and I'd like to see focus on that aspect.

Does the film play to that?

Also, anyone else thought this was gonna be a series?

These days movies are series. 90 minute episodes released 1 year apart with post credits cliffhanger.

Elves, giants, orcs, magic, necromancy, gods literally walking the ground.

But women are out of the question?

LOL.

LOL.

No it's that women being lazily shoved into hastily-written roles due to real world ideological commitments is really annoying and bad, and everyone sees through it. Especially longtime fans of a franchise (including female fans!)

Nobody had a problem with sarah connor being a chick. Or trinity, or uma thurman in kill bill.

Women are fine. Girlpower in my turbonerd elf fantasy is an ill guest.

i hated it before watching it for the record. i assumed it was a cell shaded art style vidya game trailer because that award show was recently.

i'm just sad Kenji Kamiyama has entered his "live long enough to become the villian" stage. dude got his start with Akira and the did the good Ghost in the shell(s) but is also responsible for the nu-GITS art style that is hot fucking garbage

Stop throwing gurls in my fantasy (lolocaust) my reasons are they are hastily written parts and bad camera angles (less menzes) poor production etc.
Mainly i wantz more menz in my fantasy shows/movies.
I also cant see past my own nose.

they're drafting up some legislation or executive order on this on the grounds of national security risk of China/Russia enticing young males to join their side.

I had the impression Dunlendings were the oathbreaker ghosties that Aragorn brought to Pelennor. Is that not so?

I know they're not ghosties in the books.

Well I must say that young ladyboy in the middle has quite tight underpantaloons.
You all realise its all ladyboys right? RIGHT!

Its all a plan by the "wokies" to turn all the gurls leso and the boys trans to fill their woke agenda and take control of you all.

You guys need to understand fantasy and reality are le different.
Generally (IRL) my save vs fire, should I take a tumble into a campfire is virtually ZERO. If I fall in, I'm burnt. No partials.

Meanwhile a monk in a loin cloth breathed on by an FR dragon can shake it off. Completely. Sounds about right.

Also there are no badly written or hastily added parts for men are there? /s
Also lesbians only exist in porn tvm. /s

No wonder the term "I'll take the bear" exists. You cucks just aren't as enticing (to some women) as you think you are...

This wont help.

Worried that some cabal is turning other people into something they aren't; something you think is disgusting, but never stop to think about the disgusting thing you're allowing yourself to become...

You probably wouldn't save a newborn if it wasn't completely "normal". Maybe just read a bit of history and realize these people have always existed. The only difference now is that you aren't allowed to kill them for it anymore so they don't need to hide in the shadows. Basic morality laws and social media allow everyone to seek out supporters and leverage their numbers to benefit their position. This world is for all of us. Make peace with it or live in turmoil.

the old days "oh no video games cause violence!"

the new days, "make video games that will recruit soldiers."

the new days, "make video games that will recruit soldiers."
US army used to make straight up bangers

America's Army 2002
Full Spectrum Warrior 2004

"America's Army was a series of first-person shooter video games developed and published by the U.S. Army, intended to inform, educate, and recruit prospective soldiers. Launched in 2002, the game was branded as a strategic communication device designed to allow Americans to virtually explore the Army at their own pace, and allowed them to determine whether becoming a soldier fits their interests and abilities. America's Army represents the first large-scale use of game technology by the U.S. government as a platform for strategic communication and recruitment, and the first use of game technology in support of U.S. Army recruiting."

DNq8hgLc2OM

Full Spectrum was nuts also because you could get into the actual "training" part of the game via a KONAMI code iirc

"At the time, there was a great deal of interest in leveraging the stability, low cost and computational/rendering power of the new generation of game consoles, chiefly Sony's PlayStation 2 and Microsoft's Xbox, for training applications. Legal restrictions on the PlayStation (using the platform for a military purpose) combined with the default Xbox configuration "persistence" (i.e. missions recorded on the embedded hard drive for after-action review) led to the final selection of the Xbox platform for development.

A commercial release of the game was required for Xbox platform access. The team, however, quickly concluded that a viable entertainment title might differ from a valid training tool. The exaggerated physics of entertainment software titles, it was believed, could produce a negative training effect in the Soldier audience. Accordingly, the team developed two versions of the game. The Army version was accessible through a static unlock code; the entertainment version played normally."
