View Full Version : Should I quit Counter-Strike 2 and competitive games in general?

Hello! Back when I was young I would play a lot of Counter-Strike: Source and even a little bit of CS:GO but my computer couldn't handle the latter. In 2020 I got a great PC and I managed to get the Diamond Operation Riptide Coin. Right now my eyes are on the Premier Season 2 Medal. My goal would be to get the full 125 wins required. Currently, I only have 12 wins and the Season 2 ends somewhere end of June. So basically if I get 2 wins everyday I can get that medal somewhere in May.
However recently I started working out at home and going for a run and I just read a book and I REALIZED reading books and working out or going for a run seems to be much MORE FUN to me now that I am 28 years old. The competitive style of CS2 games, to get so many wins makes you lose your mind and it's frustrating. You win 50% of games on average. I am currently slightly above 18.000 CSR rating in Premier Season 2 with 12 wins. In Wingman I have 41 wins and I was Legendary Eagle Master.
I just now played the first game of the day in Premier Season 2 and we won but I didn't really enjoy it. It felt like a struggle and it was frustrating. The pressure is too much. You concentrate so much and the desire to win to get that stupid medal is too big. Should I just quit Counter-Strike 2 and focus my eyes on more casual relaxing games like EverQuest Project 1999? I do not truly know how Project 1999 is but I got a character up to level 8 once and it was quite fun. There's also no time limited event (like the Premier Season 2 Medal).
I'm 28 years old and I just don't have fun anymore being competitive in videogames. It doesn't give me anything but frustration. I only play CS2 for the medal, not for fun. It just isn't fun anymore. I guess I just answered my own question. That being said, I'm sure you will tell me that I should quit all games and only play Project 1999 because it's the best MMO (and game) ever made. Right? I never felt frustrated in Project 1999 so far but I have only played little. Okay that's it then. I quit Counter-Strike. Game's not for me anymore. It steals all your time and sanity. I am sure many people in CS2 play just for the medals as well. Because if they played for fun they wouldn't play Premier or FACEIT because community servers or casual games are easier and more fun, for me at least.
When Premier Season 2 ends there will be Season 3 and again I will force and torture myself to get 2 wins everyday. It's a waste of time. I am a good CS2 player, not on pro level, but it's getting me nothing except a fancy looking medal on my profile that shows I wasted my life, put so much effort into this stupid medal. I am tired of it and competitive games in general. MMOs like this one are better where you just level your own character, focus on yourself and only play when you really want to, not for a time limited reward.
Out of curiosity, do you guys ONLY play Project 1999 (or Quarm) and no other games? Do you recommend it? Should I do it as well? Because I just realized Counter-Strike 2, reading books, and taking care of your body DO NOT mix well. No wonder no CS2 pros look any good in their physique it's all trash. I would rather workout, go for a run, and read books than play any games at all, except if it doesn't force me to play (because no time limited rewards). A game I can play when I want to and am not forced to grind for some stupid time limited reward. I am done with those games.
What's your take on this?

Finals combines everything I love about every FPS and puts it into 1 game.
Its like the snap reflexes of counterstrike, the bullet sponge of COD, the terrain from battlefield, the movement from Mirrors Edge, and the narrative of Smash TV.
When I win a match im like "GOTEM! WHHOHAAAAHHHWWWW OWOWWWWWWW WOOOOOO!!!!"
When I lose a match im like "CLOSEONE! WHHOHAAAAHHHWWWW OWOWWWWWWW WOOOOOO!!!!"

Gives me an op to Shill for a game I love.
Instead of pick at my fat bellybutton and cry about doom and gloom.
You should play the finals, maybe you wont be so suicidal.
Or, I could emulate NopeNope and hit the trails and find a pet lizard to offer water to. Lizard overlords and such.
FYI i have literally played 4 games ever.

Sega Rally.
Mist.
Powerslide.
So go play armies wiff ya lil friends if ya want. Dont drag us normies into it though. It might hurt my feelz.

Ok but what are you playing for. When you win what do you get in The Finals? In BattleBit Remastered it's just an exp grind until you hit Prestige 10 Level 200. I like that kind of grind because you get exp for everything even healing or reviving teammates. In The Finals you win to get what..?

They do a thing called cashouts. There's 2 boxes, and 2 cashout stations.
You go activate the box, then you pick it up, and carry it to the cashout station, and when you put it in there, it starts a timer. Now you have to defend the cashout from attackers or they can steel it.
It really combines like, offensive play and defensive play really well.
Like, you can feel like during a match that you're defending your house from armies of zombies (players) trying to bust through the walls and kill you. Where you setup traps and defensive positions.
OR
you can play offensivly, where youre trying to get the cashout and take down a base.
They have other game modes, but that's their core game mode.
If you do try it, I have one starter tip: Just follow one of your team mates around and help them, 2x is WAY more powerful than 1 in that game, so sticking together really helps you win. And its easy for you to get carried, and help at the same time if you just stick together no matter where they go.
Nevermind I looked at it. It is a good game but I would rather just wait for BATTLEFIELD 6.
That's like exactly a year away! 😭

Read between the lines
You asked whether you should 1)quit cs2 and 2)competitive games in general. Swish has essentially answered 1) yes and 2) no.
As i understand inviting you to try bf6 as a replacement to cs2 instead of quiting competitive.
Personally I rarely play CS when I do it is usually 1.6, sometimes source. Imo quit competitive and just dabble when it is fun. Entertaining a broad range of interests at a surface level, with occasional deepdives, is more enriching than one continual obsession.

The thing is I quit all singleplayer games. In childhood I played them, they were good... Like Rayman 2 and 3, Prince Of Persia Trilogy, Assassin's Creed 1, Half-Life 2... I am of the opinion that there are no new singleplayer games coming that are good except Half-Life 3. If there was a new good singleplayer game I would just watch a walkthrough of it on YouTube.
I am more interested in online games because I like what I can get out of it. Call it - digital wealth. I liked getting those medals in CS2 that stick to your profile and can never be removed or stolen. Until I realized CS2 is just frustrating and not worth the effort. Those 125 wins until end of June, it is possible and not even that hard but it's not fun. Everytime you lose a Premier game you just wasted 20 minutes of your life. At least in BATTLEFIELD type games you get kills and unlock camos or level ups. In CS2 only it matters that you win, same with FACEIT. I am getting too old for this competition thing. I consider myself a good CS2 player stuck at 18.000 CSR but I don't want to play that game anymore because losing sucks.
I had more fun in BattleBit Remastered where I wanted to achieve Prestige 10 200 as a goal and I stopped playing at Prestige 1 because I realized it's abandonware and may soon close the game's service.
I think from now on I will set my mind on Project 1999 because it offers rare items and currency system (PP) and the leveling to 60, and yet it doesn't force me to play it for some time limited stuff... I don't even have to subscribe to it like with WoW or FFXIV. The other game I will play for fun on Steam is RESTITCHED. The LittleBIGPlanet game coming to Steam on PC. Truly hyped for that game. I had much fun playing LBP with my friend on his PlayStation. Maybe if Battlefield 6 releases I will play that but maybe not because I fear they will give a battlepass and I don't like time limited stuff anymore. Also in 10 years Battlefield 6 won't be relevant anymore same with any Call of Duty. That's why I played Counter-Strike 2 because they will update it and keep it relevant... But now I think it's best to just play Project 1999 only and RESTITCHED for fun.

The requirement for multiplayer and the need for medals suggests you’re externalising the validation of your enjoyment. If you’re not having fun then pixel medals won’t really add to the enjoyment, they just skinner box your reward circuits.
You may also consider fostering a growth orientated mindset where you aren’t holding back your wellbeing with comparisons to others and indicators of performance.
If you require structure for your entertainment consider using management tools, such as productivity and accountability planning and reviews, perhaps through SMART goal setting.

Yes, you see right through me. Only that I am not comparing myself to anyone, I simply like hoarding things like medals or inventory and max ranks... You know the game NFS World Soapbox Race World? It has 6 servers. I have a max rank account on 3 of those servers and the others are level 57 of 60, 48 of 60, 86 of 100... Meaning I have an account on all six servers with a rank that unlocked everything because you don't get any more rewards for playing up to 60 or 100.
That being said, I don't play those servers anymore except the Nightriderz server. Imo Nightriderz is the best one and it even has Ranked play (that noone uses, but it's possible). You can get to level 100 and do Prestige 5 times resetting your level back to 1. I didn't do one Prestige yet because I'm not level 100 but at level 84 you can buy the Bugatti Bolide which is the fastest car and I'm 86... So... I grinded on all six servers in NFS World because this is what is fun to me. I really enjoy getting max ranks in games or acquiring inventory wealth. I guess EverQuest will provide for me in this regard.
I only needed one serious game like Project 1999 to get me hooked and addicted to. And it doesn't force me to play like Counter-Strike 2 did for those time limited event medals. Now I can take care of my body and workout peacefully and not be forced to plan the day so that I will need 2 wins every single day in CS2 until May. Glad I left the game since yesterday. I feel freer now! I will soon make a new character in Freeport. I decided I will play Project 1999 as my main game and all other games will be just for fun... I recommend NFS World Soapbox Race World Nightriderz Server if you like racing games and it's free. I also recommend Left 4 Dead 2. Imo the most fun Valve online game. And Restitched is coming to Steam soon...
By the way Wreckfest 2 is coming to Steam as well, soon, and it's a great fun game BUT I kinda hate the fact that in Wreckfest 1 you didn't need to actually play the game to unlock rewards. Yes you can just download a savegame on the internet that gets you to rank 100 with all cars unlocked and you're done. With stuff like this I would NEVER force myself to grind the game for levels and ranks if I can just skip it with a savegame. I don't know if it will be like this for Wreckfest 2 but I'm afraid it will be the same. Same in Deep Rock Galactic. I played it for 5 hours, thought the game was fun, but I used a savegame and now there's nothing to play for and I'm level 5 billion or something LOL. People on Steam Forum told me to just not use a savegame and enjoy the game, but the most enjoyment I get is from collecting rewards and getting max ranks.
I remember playing A.V.A and those high ranks looked so fancy. A.V.A was the most enjoyable competitive fps for me in ijji times. It was so good! But this new A.V.A Global is absolute trash and doesn't even have the co-op and zombie modes... I named my clan ValiantCristal after the game Alliance of Valiant Arms but that game will never come back in its glory state as it was in ijji times... So yes I do like playing to get some reward by grinding something unless the grind is extremely tedious or the game frustrating like Counter-Strike 2 is. The frustrating part is that you win 50% of games on average that means you lose a lot of lifetime for nothing when you lose. A game is 20 minutes. I would rather play an MMO like EverQuest and not a highly competitive game like CS2 or Dota 2. But it must have a grind like for levels/ranks or items/medals... If there isn't a grind or if the grind can be skipped by downloading a SAVEGAME I will not grind it.

By ranks I mean the military ranks in A.V.A that are just level-ups you get by playing the game, winning or losing, and getting exp. It was fun in ijji A.V.A to get a high rank. In CS2 you just need wins to get that stupid Premier Season 2 Medal. 125 wins and you got the medal fully leveled up but I don't want to play CS2 and get 2 wins everyday it is not entertaining to me and feels like work. When I said I like getting max ranks I meant level-ups like in EverQuest...
In BattleBit Remastered you can get Prestige 10 200 which is the max rank you get by just playing the game, regardless if you're losing or winning. You get exp by reviving and healing and can do just that for the entire game. I made a FACEIT account and never played it yet because I wanted to get the 125 wins Premier medal but I quit. It is just a huge waste of time.

Hmm Maybe I will buy battle bit remastered.
Here's my thoughts on BattleBit Remastered. I played the original Battlefield Bad Company 2 and even Vietnam DLC on my friend's playstation for like 150 hours so I know what I'm talking about. To be honest, BattleBit Remastered is just that with little difference. The best thing about BattleBit is that players, both enemies and teammates, can hear your voice and you may even spam music.
If you are abusive or harassing you could get muted or even banned so that sucks. Personally, I spammed a nice song the last time I played for hours and didn't get any penalty. People enjoyed it! BattleBit is a fun game and the weapons are fun and you can even just be a healer/reviver as that is the easiest way to get Prestige 10 200. The fastest way is actually to do those tasks you get like killing 15 people with a Glock Pistol or healing for 10.000 health and stuff like that.
That's the fastest way but I stopped this tactic and just became a healer/reviver medic because I want to reach Prestige 10 200 fast and easy without much effort and then I'll worry exclusively about getting the final camo for every gun. I believe you need 10.000 kills with any weapon to get the final camo reward. It is quite fun. Maybe at some point in time you will feel a little bit of stagnation because there are no updates and everything is the same since one or two years.
The maps are fine but there's not soo many maps. Devs say they are still working on the game and an update is coming, but they claim that since more than a year. I'm sure it's not exactly abandonware because I believe the devs are working on an update, just slowly. I don't think BattleBit will completely die with no servers so if you are okay with two servers fully populated - this game is good for you! You will have plenty of fun especially for the little price this game costs. I can highly recommend this game! Make sure to watch some YouTube tutorial on the settings so that you can hold F and it drags team members while simultaneously healing them.
It's okay. I'm used to people bullying me. All my life.
I'm not sure of my actual birthday.
It is sometime between 1682899200 and 16854912001 unix time.

Is it really better for me to quit playing Counter-Strike 2 because my greed is strong and I could technically get the Premier Season 2 medal fully leveled up (125 wins) but it's also time consuming and when the Season 2 ends end of June there will be Season 3 and my greed will force me to get another 125 wins arghh...
Maybe it's better to just quit this medal farming and just play Everquest exclusively. It doesn't force you to play. Always hated those battle passes and time limited events. They ruin your real life! Anyone here who actually plays CS2 and knows what I'm talking about with the Premier Season 2 Medal?
I'd like to get 125 wins but I don't want to put in the effort. I only have 12 wins right now. Winrate is 50%. I'm at 18.000 CSR rating. What do you think is it better to quit CS2 so I have more time for real life working out and playing Everquest? Or stick with it and get the 125 wins? I really don't know how to decide.

https://cs-scene.de/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/premium-saison-2-medaillen-banner.jpg
Here's how that Premier Season 2 Medal looks in Counter-Strike 2. The color shows your skill how high your CSR rating is. For example I have 18.000 CSR rating that would be purple. Additionally you get one colored bar for 25 wins each with a maximum of 5 bars that is 125 wins.
I wanted to get 125 wins but it's so time consuming and not even fun. I only have 12 wins. Either I get the full 5 bar medal or nothing at all. I could play more fun games like Everquest P99 or Left 4 Dead 2 that do not force me to play on time.
And when Premier Season 2 ends obviously there will be Season 3 and I will want to get another 125 wins. I guess it is better to quit now instead of becoming addicted to a game I don't like playing just to get a medal on my profile ingame...
I do like grinding for stuff like max ranks, level-ups and increasing inventory wealth and I'm sure you do too otherwise you wouldn't be playing Everquest. But 125 wins means I should get 2 wins everyday from now with a 50% winrate that's 4 games each day and one game lasts 15 to 20 minutes.
It's just intense and you have to concentrate to win. It's just not fun. In Everquest and Left 4 Dead 2 you can just relax and have fun because it's not that competitive at all. Maybe I'm getting too old for these highly competitive games like CS2 and Dota 2. It's more stressful and frustrating than it is fun.

Man yesterday I played Left 4 Dead 2 after 3 years of not playing any L4D and I first experienced it with my new 144 Hz monitor and better PC. I played it for 5 hours until 2 am with voice chat and two other people in Steam Voice Group Chat.
It is honestly so much more fun than 5v5 in Counter-Strike 2 where everyone wants to win. Co-op is just easier and not frustrating at all. I really have the most fun in the Left 4 Dead Series. It is my favorite Valve franchise. I am not gonna get any Premier medal in CS2 it is not worth it. Shooting the guns in Left 4 Dead 2 is more fun. And you don't feel bad when you lose.
Expert Realism is just so much fun it never gets boring. Really hoping when we get Half-Life 3 soon that they'll do Left 4 Dead 3 also.
CS2 is frustrating and you have to concentrate hard. I don't like CS2 anymore. I rather play Left 4 Dead 2 and Everquest P99. That new game Restitched is coming to Steam soon as well. Pretty cool game because I loved playing LittleBIGPlanet on my friend's PS.
