I haven't played for a while and just decided to come back to the game. I did get the game to run, but then at some point I crashed my client and couldn't get back in again. The next day I tried again and it worked. Then I crashed again at some point and again I couldn't get back in. The next day it worked again. It worked fine for two days then today I tried to log in and it never crashed - it just won't work.

I am able to log into p99 green and see my character. I login with the character I want and then it goes to a black screen and the music/sound starts looping over and over again (around a 1 second loop) and no matter how long I wait, it never loads the actual game.

I've tried reinstalling and rebooting and a number of other things including updating WinEQ2. I'm running this on Windows 11 and it's the same computer I used to play on without ever having this problem. So, something weird is happening and I'm hoping someone has had this problem before and could suggest some solutions.

Thanks

Running as admin fixes lots of things, but if not check out https://wiki.project1999.com/Tech%20Support#Login_and_Character_Select_Screen_P roblems

Ive been having the exact same issue. Started 4 days ago across 3 different PC's. 2 desktops and one laptop. Still havent found a solution. I just keep closing and relaunching, and rebooting pc(or some combination of that) until i can get in. Sometimes its upwards of 20+ minutes of repeated attempts.

I'm having the same issue. Started in the last 2 or 3 days.
I was able to get it working again after the first time it happened, but now I can't get it running at all :/
Win11 recently ran updates, may have to roll them back.

I've been having issues ever since i updated to the latest file download from here. Maybe something in those files is causing it with random peoples setups? Havent had much luck with figuring anything out though. Just kinda dealing with it.

I have been having this issue. Only on my laptop though, after I ran a windows 11 update. I have since rolled it back, completely reinstalled windows / game / ran a ton of other ideas/fixes around it.

Nothing sticks.

The issue is, as described, it just freezes on character select. I.E. You load game fine, it gets to server select fine. You load into the server (in my case blue) fine, but once I try to load into world, it locks up.

It locks up so bad, im not even able to pull up task manager. Switching windows users is the only way to get it to unlock and I can attempt again.

Something specific I noticed is the music. It will lag or make a glitchy (like its stuck) for a small second when I select server to go to character select. That is my queue its gonna happen. So I spare myself the freeze and try restarting the client until I don't hear it again.

When I don't hear the music glitch, I get in every time successfully. Once I'm in, there is 0 issues. Were talking 6+ hour gameplay sessions with raids, zoning etc. Its just you cant character switch or you could be locked out for 20 - 30+ minutes.

Ive gone up and down the list Loramin posted, as well as a bunch of other niche ideas/fixes.

Whatever this IS, its new.

My latest idea/fix was to completely disable/turn off Killer Network (its a suite that comes with intel) -- I had issues with this years ago in Destiny 2 -- would cause major lag and disconnects. ILl try and report back if that works.

At this point I am at a complete loss. Been playing p99 consistently for 2+ years on this laptop, no issues.

Just want to add that I'm having an identical issue (down to the same music glitches predicting freezes) that Fingurs described. It also only appeared after the latest patch for me (although I hadn't played for a few months, so I'm not sure if a Windows update in the interim could be at fault instead). Nothing useful to add, but I figured another data point could be useful in case anyone is brainstorming solutions.

Having the same issue as others have posted. After clicking enter world it loads to a black screen and I end up having to close eq via task manager. Never had any problems before so I'm also wondering if a windows 11 update may be to blame.

Yeah Im thinking the windows 11 update was the culprit. ALthough I tried rolling back and it did not work, so it appears whatever it changed/updated remained. Hoping the next update makes it better. TBD --- completely unsure how to further diagnose/fix.

Using a VPN got me past this issue! Proton VPN has a free one, DL is fast and super easy to setup

I just want to add this: I reinstalled the game (new PC) almost two years ago and have been fighting this issue, and others, ever since. Some annoying things such as full screen / windowed mode selections not persisting from one session to the next. I finally bypassed WINEQ2, which I had never used previously, in all my years of playing P99 prior to reinstalling (I thought: what the heck, must be better, right?) and my problems went away. ymmv, but wanted to mention it.

I am happy you figured your issues out -- unfortunately this issue were speaking about is different. It happened to some people on certain systems after the late feb/early march Windows 11 update. My desktop updated and has no issues, but my laptop was caught up in it.

Its still happening, with no solution in sight short of someone far smarter then me troubleshooting it, or a new windows 11 update reverting/fixing it.

Hello, maybe it could help you. For personal reasons I choose to play without the sound. So I turned it off. So when I do not connect to its at the beginning of loading, no sound to the selection of characters, and therefore never problems connection ( now I know that it can be very unpleasant for those who want sound ) .
But today and this is a whole other concern, and I did a post about it, my IP address is blocked. PS; je suis +Belge , I speak French, this message has been translated by réverso.
