I like deserts. Personally, I like Arica in Chile as a vacation spot even though I've never been there. They call it the city of eternal spring and it has a very dry climate and next to no rain. Someone in real life called me a dry person once. :D
Freeport is probably closest to that since Arica is a port too but the Iksar also have Field of Bone which is a nice looking desert. (Is there another desert zone in Kunark?)
The Iksar are just way too great not to pick them. Field of Bone would be my favorite zone unless there is another desert in Kunark. Is there?
What zone or type of land do YOU like the most? For example do you like the snowy tundras of the Barbarians? Or do you like dark forests near Neriak? I don't know the locations in this game well because I'm a new player, but let's all admit that EverQuest 1 has by far the best MMO map ever made.

I wish there was a dungeon in East katana, like a scarab cave that would’ve been cool.
But east and North karana are pretty cool to hang out and I think.
Fun to hunt elusive names in north. Fun to just stand around like an npc in east.

Steamfont holds a lot of nostalgia for me. First character on live was a gnome mage. Spent a lot of time in that zone. Afraid to venture far from it. I remember seeing Druids in wolf form kiting around the guards, and would always think they were so cool and powerful. But between akannon. The windmills, the kobalds and mino caves. I'll go with Steamfont.

The zoo in Akananon is pretty awesome.

Yeah Akanon was a blast. I got lost so many times back in the day, and would stumble on so many neat little places.. EQ was so amazing as a kid, i could spend days, weeks. Accomplishing nothing but running around, and exploring.

Crushbone is peak fantasy zone, great atmosphere; slave caves, blood flowing down the walls and pooling in the castle, a classic moat running around the castle. Multiple approaches and zone scales as you move around. 10/10

Greater Faydark by far. Pretty forest. Pretty music. Also why I was so eager for Velious here, so I could get back to spending time in Wakening Lands.

Sebilis, and the surrounding areas like Swamp of No Hope, Trakanons Teeth.
You can feel the lore in the surroundings.

Seb is a damn fine zone. Very classic, but also very kunark! One of the most classic feeling ones from Kunark.
I wish frog city in kunark was a fully functioning city, open world dungeon.
Same with ferries and brownies.
I would love to dive deeper into a zone of brownies through the lesser fay spots
Speaking of cool zones: Lesser Fay.

1.) Neriak, the entire city. I was a big fan of R.A. Salvatore and the dark elf books by the time EQ cameout and my first dark elf explored the city to the badass music. To this day still one of my favorite zone(s).
2.) Kelethin has such a relaxing nature feel and the perfect music.
3.) The tavern in highkeep, amazing water view inside a tavern, pretty unique.
4.) Eruds Crossing - Always felt this was a "secret zone" back on live I guess because I almost never made a qeynos/erudite starting character. Anyway, loved farming GLS here for XP/plat. Amazing music, tropical feel, secluded.
5.) Kunark era, mostly an ugly continent, isnt it? If I had to pick a visually impressive area in Kunark it would be Fironia Vie, the ships were impressive and the city was pretty cool, decent surrounding terrain.
6.) Velious is pretty drab exterior wise, Crystal Caverns is my favorite zone besides icewell castle(amazing music).

Speaking of nerriak and taverns. Little halflings swimming around the underwater view from the nerriak tavern is so cool.
The way the necro guild had the ghouls guarding, was so honest to god incredible to me first time I played. Ghouls for the first 3 months of my game were some godlike super preditor that must at all costs be avoided, but being able to have them as my guardian as a llittle necro boi was so empowering and immersive

I started playing during Kunark so Field of Bone + Kurns are top.
Loved Qeynos and Erud's Crossing as well.
On PvP server it was Kerra Isle. No one liked fighting casters so it was mostly empty and a good spot to EXP and you typically gear for resists for PvP.
Also, Paludal Caverns and Icewell Keep due to finding 2 cool exploits there. Also PC was just a cool zone to exp in.

Oh great point The sewer in Qeynos I finally learned to prep for green and leveled there day 1, was fantastic. I think i had like 200plat and level 9, HP rings and earings, and a couple other nice items from there i cant remember at the end of day one!
Damn that was fun green was cool.
The lore in that zone is cool, the bertoxx necros and the wandering NPCs all add some cool mystery to the game.

Qeycat sets the standard. It is such a fully realised zone.

I just researched a little bit on the continent of Kunark and I decided that The Dreadlands is my favorite zone in the entire game.
https://wiki.project1999.com/Dreadlands
Does anyone know if The Dreadlands is a desert? What else would it be? It has sand like territory but in the wiki it doesn't mention anything of a desert.

Is it on the equator?
Good place to set up a film studio, you have the castle, snow, forest, deserts, greenery, you got it all!

I just loved the Desert of the Knaaren in Rayman 3 and I just realized The Dreadlands from the Knaaren exist in EverQuest too and both The Knaaren and The Iksar are enormous in size. They are actually very similar, terrifying to other races and brutal. Except that The Knaaren live underground in darkness under a desert in a tunnel, while The Iksar have more affinity with water and are very good swimmers.
Still, I do like my deserts and I chose Iksar as my race in P99. I think The Dreadlands is my favorite zone in the entire game. It's also a desert I mean it has sand like terrain/ground in some places, I don't know why wiki doesn't call it a desert, what else would it be?

Mediterranean?
It's like Iran geographically kind of.

yeah Eruds got my vote.
spent more time than i should in 99' and at the time assumed something rare like a Pyzjin with GBS had to be there so farmed the fuck out of the mermaid and vampire bats and madman..etc

Speaking of oceans, I’m surprised nobody said ocean of tears.
It’s got a reformatory for promiscuous elvish girls that is actually a front for a whorehouse for ships passing in the night.
A dinosaur.
Mermaids.
Treasure hunting.
And some other stuff.
P cool zone imo.

Disciples of the goddess of love wear purity belts, which implies they view sex as a sacred act between committed lovers, and casual sex in the absence of love to be profane. So erollisi worship in Norrath is a socially conservative institution. Or are the sisters of Erollisi a fundamentalist sect that have split off from the free-loving faydwer elves????
The Nybright sisters traveled to Antonica, were influenced somehow, and upon their return to Faydwer, rebelled against their overbearing now-drunkard father and became bandits. Note that the drunkard, Tandan Nybright, is a high elf, and his daughters are all half elves. Is mom an Antonican human he knocked up out of wedlock, and was the union subsequently shunned in Faydwer? Did they get a taste of freedom in Antonica and chafe against Faydwer's oppressive ancien régime? Perhaps they are not bandits, but revolutionaries--- remember, they don't attack you on sight. We just take Tandan's word for it.
Perhaps the sister isle is in the fold after all.

I loved being bored out of my mind farming the sisters that I noticed:
We got a dock where travelers come and go all through the night.
We got a hut right next to the dock with a merchant working the door, and a room full of beds behind her.
We got a bunch of sexy woodelves walking around said dock.
We got 1 big ass high level (pimp) woodeflf that runs the place in a private hut (with bunks in it).
And we got 2 enforcer girls with special swords that spawn facing each other in 1 hut, with 1 bed.
And they all wear purity belts.
And they are girls that didnt fit in in faydark.
It's definitely a front for a brothel.
Top tier environmental storytelling indeed :D

Also, my personal favorite as a 12 year old-- blackburrow. This zone was bumpin' back in the day. Constant trains, big fuck-off pit you can fall in and lose your corpse, including a trap floor in an inviting little hut you want to med in. Then you get eaten by the piranhas at the bottom and realize you should have learned to swim. Surprise grizzly bear attack while you think you're safe up top medding in the wheelbarrow staring at ur book. But also a chill snake camp where you could stop and rest and chat with whoever was there, maybe get some buffs if they're a druid (often were). Sometimes it was even a group you could join to kill snakes and gnoll guards.
The gnolls drop fangs that were great xp, but be careful-- do this too much and you'll learn the hard way that Qeynos has a faction of corrupt guards, when you try to leave town and Lieutenant Dagarok disintegrates you with harm touch. Especially if you also spam Guard Wenbie with muffins to max your merchants of qeynos faction.
This sequence of events was my cue to leave Qeynos and try my luck in Freeport. I made it as far as Kithicor. All because of blackburrow gnolls.

That is where I saw my first train.
This guy shouts TRAAAAAAAIIIIIIIN and my friend and I were like ??
THen we saw like 50 million gnolls, more than we ever could have imagined in one place at one time kill everyone. Good times. Great Zone.
The tree trunk hut is under utilized, cool little nook.
I never did the blackburrow cask quest but I bet thats a neat little bit of lore.
That reminds me how much i love that one tavern in the docks in Qeynos where there's a couple different quests that overlap. Lots of NPC community walking around.

I actually thought about this one for awhile but i have a love/hate in the sense that its a cool zone but the many times ive had to wait for the boat to arrive or leave there has made me associate it with pain. And the ac ring mqs i did during work burnt me out.
