Returning to EQ

After ~20 years away from EQ I've decided to (maybe) return to the virtual world that gave me so much joy years ago.

I was previously on Quellious where I played daily for a long time in the late '90's to early 00's. I actually had set up my P99 account and played around a bit on Blue a few years ago, but decided to start anew on Green. So yesterday I spun up a HE Wizard named Goyan (who is now lvl 2 and in Freeport). Once I get a bind I'll be roaming around, so if you happen to see me, drop a hey!

I miss the community of EQ. I'll most likely be on a bit mid-week and some on the weekends.

Re-roll Ogre before its too late! Frontal Stun Immunity is the best racial ability in the game, especially for warrior.

I'm planning to roll a tank, but I'm torn. Is the Ogre's Frontal Stun Immunity so vital that it outweighs the Troll's passive Regeneration for a Warrior? Are there any other race/class combinations on P99 that have a 'must-pick' racial advantage like the Ogre?

I definitely think fashion is the most important decision for any class. If you don't like how your character looks then no passive can make up for that.

The Ogre's FSI outweighs Troll's regen only at level 60 when tanking raid mobs. But non-Ogre warriors have tanked every raid target in the game, FSI isn't a requirement. And from 1-60 the regen is far better, especially in the earlier levels or when soloing.

1000%. Racial regen is mostly useless on a warrior, the class that receives the most heals in the game. Even a well geared twink will still end up grouping for exp around 40-50+, much sooner for a lesser twink or non-twink toon. Trolls also have a higher exp penalty so any benefit your might find from limited regen is in reality offset by getting less exp per mob.

Ogre also has the best starting stats including the highest native stamina (one of the harder stats in the game to max even with the best gear and buffs).

When it comes to racial abilities there are 2 races in a class of their own: Ogre and Gnome. Ogre frontal stun immunity is, IMO, the strongest and often most overlooked racial ability. Its nice on warrior to help with positioning, maximizing agro, fighting multiple mobs when you have a zealous puller, and min/maxing end game raid tanking. Its even more OP on shaman/shadow knight as it can significantly reduce the chance to be interrupted during a cast while taking hits. Gnome as the smallest race in the game can natively see through walls, unlocking the ability to gather information about your surroundings and have a competitive advantage against other players, also important for some tactics like putting an eye of zomm through a wall.

For your entire leveling journey 1 to 60, you're almost never going to be stunned facing a mob regardless of your race. And in those rare instances, you miss a couple seconds of DPS. And even at 60, every race has defensive and can and do tank every target. So to suggest it's a must pick is totally misleading. Any decision not based on fashion is going to end up a huge regret.
