View Full Version : Ways that P99 is different than Classic

I just thought I'd start a thread about all the different things that are not Classic in P99.
1) Spell resists seem to be much rougher
2) Mob speed is faster
3) You don't have to stare at your spellbook to meditate (yayy)
4) Variable spawn time on raid mobs
5) Camps are defined and holdable!
6) Mobs don't run away fast enough at low hps
Gotta catch em all!

7) our skill is higher, so we need a tougher challenge.....such as actually earning our raid loot by fighting others for it.

Because...
-player mentality is the same now as it was 11 years ago,
-the meta-game is still as unknown as it was 11 years ago,
-everything can be perfectly replicated using an emulator and no knowledge of how things were originally coded
...amirite?
I don't understand the point of this thread, other than to further rail against the developers for various reasons.

over all devs did a great job, i barely played much of classic, thought i was bad ass being a lvl 22 dwarf paly yielding not sure what weapon, but clad in full chain mail soloing crocs in oasis, lol
back then i only saw a few zones, butcherblock, greater fay, crushbone, the boat for back and forth cr's, i was 11, no clue what a bind soul was then, east commanlands, north ro and oasis, all i saw back then in 99/00
besides those few zones, i made it a good habit at that age that i now broke of training/griefing people, but ive just heard from more people, that durring most classic servers, people were much nicer

It doesn't take my computer 2 1/2 minutes to zone or load the game.

It's true that there're differences; many to be seen and felt. But it's still amazing when you think about it that emulators for this game even exist. Someone did a lot of coding. When I compare p1999 to some of the other eqemulator servers I am humbled by the dedication and attempt at professionalism. It's by no means complete and no does it please everyone, neither will it ever be enough, but it's admirable.
In my view, there're better games, but this one holds a special place in my heart. That's its draw. I can look past its flaws when i play it now and then. It's like walking on a indian burial ground. There's many things we can blame on the indians, but it's altogether different when you contemplate the immensity of mortal life.
I don't play it very often. Perhaps that's how I can be so neutral emotionally.

Agreed. There are MANY games out there that are better graphically and easier to play, but EQ is and will always be my favorite game. Given the choice of playing one game for the rest of my life, EQ would be it.

The biggest one (for me) is no pvp. Also, there seem to be a LOT more halflings here, I guess because everyone knows about their exp bonus. This was a shame to me really, being a halfling used to MEAN something and now all these fefs are doing it for all the wrong reasons.

Not for some guilds
That explains the proliferation of members.
Inbreeding much bro?
Classic was not as good as p1999 for me for one simple reason: The UI.
Today at 2560x1440 with a custom ui (dexa i think) eq is so immerseful it makes up for the fact the content is old which I would otherwise just see as a trip in the delorean.
