Server-Wide ooc

With a population of 1/4-ish a normal-ish server the ooc channel has kinda turned into a giant chat channel with enough warm bodies as to attract people who get a kick out of saying "PENIS". I have a hunch that those same people wouldn't find a zone specific chat channel as fulfilling.

Getting rid of the server wide auction channel would bring the EC tunnel back to life, and would probably have some sort of impact on people farming things, since you can't sit in EC and farm lower guk at the same time. Might be a good or a bad thing. /shrug

I FINALLY logged in today after browsing the forums for several weeks. I had a hunch things would be rough but I had no idea it would be that bad. The server wide /ooc shit has to go and that's that. Also the forum personal attacks. It's funny for a day or two but it gets old real quick. I'm only one person and I doubt anyone gives a shit about my presence in the game but seriously, this server is going to suffer unless some sort of moderation is put into effect. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm trying really hard to enjoy classic EQ but it's not happening.

I for one keep /ooc chat hide in a minimized window because I can't figure out a better way to hide it. however, I do peek at it regularly for entertainment purposes only. It can be quite funny at times...just like this forum.

It just needs a strict filter for a kick/30 sec ban/1 hour ban/1 day ban or some kind of progression so it can still be utilized to assist in groups/actions because of the low pop but won't be as useful as a spam/constant conversation engine.

However, the bullshit spam and / or ability for idiots to stay in one zone and talk all day about just dumb shit is lame and needs to be destroyed.

If I could opt out of "anyone level 1-20," that would rule. However, I can't, so it's an issue. This was never a problem on live, there was no such thing as global chat except /guild or /group. If you guys are harping on the "community is too small" bullshit, then fine, make a minimum level. But really you should quit your bitching, wipe the sand out of your vaginas, and support classicization of chat channels.

The problem is not global OOC/auction. They are great tools for finding a group as well as selling items or asking questions.

The real problem is the idiots that start arguments in OOC or flat out spam such as the Andain Sex Story guy. Right now OOC just flies by and your lfg is even lost in the spam.

I would support a minimum level on OOC of lvl 10. This way someone has to atleast spend a few hours leveling in order to spam, and he might think twice about it since he will be banned and have to do it again.

Something needs to be done, If there is a way to do it without completly removing global ooc then I am all for that. If not I say do away with it and lets just go with classic chat channels. The server is big enough to handle it atm IMO.

I'm just spit-balling, but how about a compromise?

Make an additional zone-wide ooc channel, and rename the server-wide channel (General, maybe?) Perhaps also add a minimum level to that channel.

This SHOULD serve to fix several of the complaints. Those who wish to have a classic ooc channel without listening to server-wide spam can, and those who want or need a server-wide channel can use it. /auction can stay as is.

My personal preference would be to just make the channels as they were in classic, but I am willing to accept a compromise.

A level limit of 5 will stop the spammer from making a new character every 5 minutes and spamming the entire server.

And a level limit on using channels has been in a lot of mmos, actually. Especially private server emulators of said mmos. Sorry your google skills are so bad.
