Hi everyone,

Haven't played EQ in years. Classic/Kunark were my favorites back then. Looking to play a bit here and I see 2 pve servers. Blue and green. Which one is the one to play on? Is there much difference? Any special rules other than (dont be a jerk to others)?

Any class recommendations that aren't gear dependent? it's been too many years, i dont remember much.

Thanks for advice.

Hey,welcome back! Both servers are done the progression timeline, Green is the newer one with a higher population so no reason not to roll there. The usual class recommendations are necro, druid, or enchanter. Each is a good choice depending on how you prefer to play, they're all capable soloers with little gear. Necro and especially enchanter have more group utility, druids can earn decent plat porting.

Red server is essentially a PvE server with faster exp, more camp availability, and better chat. I would recommend playing there as a Necromancer for a first character. Green server has a little more low level grouping if that's what you're looking for though.

Red is the more alive server in many cases, because at least you're able to see conversation no matter where you go. The other servers, especially blue, have many dead zones where you're just going to be sitting there totally alone.

Red has many more dead zones than blue. Right now there are 15 players on red, compared to 120 on Blue and 400 on Green.

I've played on Red before. It is barren, even with ooc.

You won't be raiding on Red very much either, due to low player counts and raids getting attacked by other players.

It's much better to be in a dead zone with chat available, than be in one without.

Raids don't get attacked by other players. That era is long gone and isn't much of a deterrent anyway. People on Red get raid loot more frequently than on other servers.

I've tried to start conversations in ooc before. Half the time nobody replies. With only 15 people on the server, there is a good chance of people being AFK, or silent for whatever reason.

While it is true from a numbers perspective there are less people competing for raid loot, you also probably can't kill vulak with 15 people.

There are more than 15 people. People log on to raid. Anyone who has friends (I know you're unfamiliar with this concept) can also bring them to the server and have a much nicer experience than the endgame situation on the other servers.

Blue and green have reached the same expansions, and, while there are a few small differences, they are essentially the same in terms of gameplay. Green has the largest population and you would have the best chance at finding groups there. There's a good chance that there will be an increased experience event over the 4th July weekend, so that would be a great time to find people leveling new characters. Welcome back and I hope you have fun!

Your friends comment is obviously silly. Not surprising from a troll like yourself.

People can go onto Red themselves and see how dead it is. That is why the player count is always low. People can just look at the player count on the server, they don't need to take our word for it.

If I made a level 5 Rallos Zek Warrior today, would King Tormax be up when I go over to Kael?

Not going to play Red, there's like 20 people on it. Went with Mage. Was choosing between necro and mage, mage felt easier to get going. Can't login now, some server issues this weekend, oh well. It's a free server, can't complain too much.

I hope you're having fun! Mage is a great starting class, good choice. It's pretty easy, gear doesn't really matter, and malachite is cheap and plentiful where ever you go.
