New post count 927 on home page - ~90 here?

Trying to figure out how this actually works. Just noticed when I look at home page it shows I have a new post count of 927. But when I look at my avatar on the forums it says I have considerably less. Somewhere around 80 or so.

Can someone please help me understand how this function works? Does this mean I should be more than an "Aviak".

Don't really care - just curious as to what it is all about and why the difference.
