Is there any definitive directive that's been given in terms of whether weapons actually help/hurt when given to a pet?

My memory is poor, but I thought I remember that giving weapons to pet in classic was a huge debate. I haven't parsed any numbers so I don't know.

I've heard - give 2 low delay weapons to a pet and it makes the dual wield attack at lower levels.

I've heard, give one low delay and one high dam and you get the best of both worlds...high damage with low delay.

I've heard - pets dont need them, it doesn't change anything, they dual attack anyway.

Etc...

Does anyone know the actual truth of the matter in terms of how it actually is here on P99?

Thanks.

Pets don't use the damage or delay of weapons you give them on this server. At some level, 24+ I think, giving pets weapons will make them dual wield. At level 44+ pets will dual wield without weapons, at which point there isn't any reason to give pets weapons except for weapons with procs.

I summon my daggers to give to my pet so they can hit magical creatures

So giving weapons pets is primarily cosmetic, or possibly for hitting magical only creatures...some weapons do proc though correct?

If you want them to dual wield from 24-43 they need weapons.

I believe they need magic weapons to hit magic creatures until 16.

Yes, procs work such as Gnoll Hide Lariat

Yeah, weapon procs work.

Does that 24-43 Duel wield trick work for SK pets too?

No, it goes based on pet lvl, not character level. Ud have to treat ur sk pet like it was a low lvl necro pet. Im assuming.

This is correct, I was referring to the pet levels and for pure casters mostly.

Just cross-reference the SK pet spell vs the lvl the necro gets it.

So..

Restless Bone - pet lvl 16 - SK gets spell at 30

This is the first magic hitting pet, if i remember correctly.

Summon Dead - pet lvl 25 - SK gets spell at 49

This pet should dual wield if you give him weapons.

Level 12 Enc pet hits magic, probably the same for other classes.

Good to know, thanks.

My level 15 sk pet accepts multiple weapons. Does that mean he is duel wielding?

no

You can only tell if a pet is actually duel wielding if you physically see him holding a weapon in each hand. You could hand him weapons all day if u wanted but you will only see the first weapon uv given him equipped.

I see the weapons in both hands.

I thought I read that dual wield wasn't showing for some pets.

Anyway, you should be able to determine it by the battlespam (slash/crush/pierce vs punch), no?

It may depend on the weapons your giving him. I know that for my mage pet using lvl 24 spells, he cannot equip two 1handed spears at the same time, but can do so for daggers, 1 handed swords etc.

I havn't checked the battle logs, but I do see him swing with both arms. IDK if thats just graphics though.

And if thats the case then im wrong based on this server, but that was the indication used on live. And yes give him two diff weapon types ,piecing, crush, slashing and thats a surefire guarantee if its working.

Not true, you will always see the weapons (besides chanter)

You need to give 1 blunt and 1 slash (or pierce) and look at the combat messages.

They can hold the weapon but you will never see a combat message from the second weapon type.

The animation is in response to what they are holding but is not representative of what's actually happening. Don't forget how old the engine of this game is. They didn't bother to make little changes like this to the game.

This is the best gauge of if it is working.

They will hold two regardless of if the are actually Dual Wielding.

As was noted in a previous post the battle spam can indicate if it is working or not as well.

If your pet class and double attack, when it is dual wielding you can see some rounds where it appears to quad, (a successful Dual Wield check and double attack checks). Keep in mind dual wield hits can be different values, a double attack hit will always mirror the original swings damage.

Really? I've been playing for years and I never knew that..

Is this a pet specific or server specific thing?

If not, it's wrong.

I'd that to test if they really are dual-wielding, give them two different types, i.e. like a sword and a dagger, and see if the log says they are both slashing and piercing.

If that is incorrect sorry, thought i remembered that from a few years ago when I last played on Live.

Also I thought I saw that in my battle spam, but maybe it was just a coincidence
