View Full Version : Client goes link dead every few minutes

I've been having an issue since I started playing last week or so. My client gets disconnected from the server but without any crashing that I've read so many others experience. Once it occurs, I appear LD to everyone around me but my client stays running. On the F11 status bar, that 100% starts dropping about 1% / sec and the green bar slowly turns black going right to left. Once the countdown hits 0% I get the black "you have been disconnected" screen. If I zone while its at 100% I can zone without getting disconnected. It is very random. Sometimes I have it occur every 3 minutes while other times I can play for 2 hours before it starts. My short-term solution has thus far to be /exit as soon as I see it going down past 90% and restarting which takes all of 3 minutes but this does get annoying quick when I'm in a group and I have to restart every 3 minutes.

So far:
I've set the CPU affinity to 1.
I've updated Win7.
I've tried running in windowed and full screen modes.
I tried running in compatability settings but then EQ won't even start.
I've tried running as Admin.
I've spent 3 days scouring these forums for the same problem so as to avoid multiple posts about the same thing but after tens of pages of posts I have yet to see anyone else with this same problem. Everyone else seems to have crashing accompanied in some way. Nobody I've talked to in-game has any idea either so here I am. I do apologize about the long post but don't know where else to turn with this.

Sounds like your ISP is cutting you off like they used to with me. The connection is being reset somehow, and the moment you switch zones, you will 'refresh' with a new port. What ISP are you using?

I use verizon wireless' MiFi thing. Its the only internet I can get where I live besides dial-up which is so slow it can't load its own ISP's webpage in less than 5 minutes, or Sattelite and I refuse to pay 150 for something only slightly faster than dial-up. It doesn't do this with any other online games I play.

What it sounds like is it is switching IP addresses every 5 minutes, causing the connection to be reset. Back when I used T-Mobile, this was the case with every cell tower that switched. Unfortunately, unless you can get a static connection, it will continue to do this.
