I started playing around with EQEmu in 2007 or so looking for a REAL classic server. P1999 began developing, and it was worth the wait.

Hubby and I had been looking for a stable, good pre-Luclin EQEmu server for quite some time off and on. I happened to go looking for it the other day and stumbled upon it. I installed and then the next thing I knew my husband quickly followed suit! And here we are!

Used to log in to EQC IRC once every couple months and bug secrets about when EQC was dropping..
One random time I came in, and they were like "Project 1999 is dropping beta tomorrow."
So I went to eqemu, downloaded, installed, and found a bug within 2 hours! Some GM gave me level 50 and a couple combine daggers to play with, and said "have fun for a couple hours, servers being brought down!"
Logged in immediately after the launch. Grouped in CB with some now infamous, but mostly long gone characters. Joined Rusty Long Swords, and the rest, as they say, is history!

I got an email Feb 11 of 2009 from Nilbog saying "As of late, I've been working on a project... My project? Classic Everquest.. Starting with the Titanium Client.. its taken a while, but I've reverted almost 99% of the prekunark zones to their prekunark status.. as much was allowable per source and client files. Remade classic cazic thule.. runnyeye, etc etc.."
Yeah, I logged in shortly after that and started learning perl and how NOT to screw up a database. I'm still learning perl and I still haven't figured out how NOT to screw up a database :D.

I was reading the EQ Mac forums on EQMac.com (since the Mac server at SOE was the closest to a classic experience and was frozen in time.. as in no more expansions) and someone mentioned this server as being a truly classic experience. I was interested and had a look to see what it might be like. I had tried an emulator a long time ago and wasn't impressed as it wasn't classic and it was pretty devoid of players. I noticed the max player and average player count on this server and read through the message boards and decided to give it a try. I found my old Titanium client install disk and got it installed and I LOVE it! I immediately donated my first monthly "subscription" to help the server and play when ever I can.

I have played with emulators for a few years. Usually nothing more than setting up a private server, kitting out a character, and then playing in god mode (I simply don't have the hardware or bandwidth to offer anything publicly). The other day a friend of mine pointed me to P99's website. I've been bored on the MMO scene lately and figured I'd hop on and have some nostalgia. Now my wife and I are playing nightly.

Was hanging with friends when a buddy brought up how in the 9th and 10th grades we use to spend all our nights playing EQ. Now we all have serious jobs and only hang out one weekend a month with a lot of drinking involved. Then of course one friend brought up this server and we all nerd raged about old times. We then all got home after being drunk DLed and installed it. Now we all play a couple hours a week and have a blast in vent/game!
That first night of drunken game play/ remembering how to play was amazing.

Homie the monk made a post on the Bodybuilding.com Misc forum about p1999. Since I used to play EQ and the thread had "Everquest" in the title I checked it out like I usually do when I see references to EQ in other places. Found out about p1999 and since Classic-Velious was the truly great "Golden Age" of Everquest I started up immediately. I wish I had known about it sooner as I missed out on a lot of things that I originally missed on live that I would have liked to take part in (Manastones, DE Mask, Rubicite, Jboots in Najena).
I knew there were other people out there who were let down with EQ after the release of Luclin. To be on a server with so many of them is an awesome feeling because these people like the same things about EQ I like. We all appreciate when EQ was a very tough game instead of a dumbed down game for the masses.

Heard about it when the original post was made on the EQEmu forums that advertised its release. Like many of the people there, i was VERY skeptic, and knew that was a hell of a lot of work for a guy to do. IIRC the original post stated that Nilbog was the only one currently working on it (yikes!)
I come back one week after the project opened to play on ProjectEQ (i was always disgusted with the project because it had POK and such, but i had to feed my EQ appetite somehow!) and I saw P1999 and yeah = )

A friend sent me the link to the ten ton hammer write up over a month ago. I dug up the titanium cd's last weekend :)

Was a TZ/VZ EMU player. It's been under new management and consequently being run into the ground.
some annoying guy spammed shards of dalaya's ooc advertising it.

I was waxing about the old days to someone online. I started looking up old screenshots and found the site. I thought to myself "Wow, I wonder how many years this will take before it's up and running, I wish I could play it now."
Then I noticed the server had gone live 3 days prior.
I came 7 times.

I simply stumbled upon it via Youtube videos. Like many, I was a long time EQ player that eventually migrated to WoW.
I was elated at the possibility and frantically looked for a EQ-Titanium at the local game stores, only to come to a dead end. Luckily, I found one online for a reasonable price and here I am!
Eager as ever about the future within the past...can't wait.

I'd seen it mentioned on the mmorpg.com forums a few times, but I didn't really pay much attention, since I was playing/trying out different games. A couple of days ago I was waxing nostalgic about old EQ, and saw another post mentioning Project 1999 on those forums, so here I am.

Interestingly enough, I was thumbing through some message boards on gamefaqs and saw mention of this on the Everquest Board. I thought it was too good to be true, so I hopped over and checked it out.
I'm exceptionally pleased!

Heard about this server from a guy in my Vanguard guild and because I missed the original EQ wanted to see what all the fuss was about so here I am.

Someone left a comment on my web site asking if I'd heard about project1999. Had no idea what he was talkin' about but so far I'm extremely glad I checked into it. Dare I get my hopes up that the classic experience we've wanted all these years is finally here!? If so, donations forthcoming :D
Oh, and hello from a first-time poster! I'm "Terrian" and "Frenetik" in-game so far, feel free to say hello.

Somebody mentioned on the Mortal Online forums and I promptly checked it out. I have to say I'm loving it so far and it's just what I needed to breath some new life into my gaming experience. :)
Thank you to everyone involved for making this happen!

Short answer: Appeared on the server list ;)
Long answer: Played EQ from Summer of 1999 (had a neat GMUD style gui) until shortly after Titanium was released. Got darned tired of all the instances being added and the instant travel was already on my nerves.
Don’t remember exactly when, but I found the emu, back when mob’s were very buggy and there was no fog in faydark (years ago). Have a few characters around cap on the grand creation server. With the implementation of instances, started to loose interest fast. Titanium was having problems with my new video card so uninstalled fall of last year.
Looked at the emu list this year and saw p1999, so reinstalled and fixed the problem with the video card. So now I’m doing my first run-trough with a Drui and then enters my Cleric. Looking forward to Kunark the most.

But ya, i was looking up old videos on You Tube to show the wife some of the old raid mobs and someone posted a link to Project 1999. So i did a Google search and my jaw dropped as i read it and proceeded to start clicking every down load link on the page!
So far I'm loving it... its like being a kid again!

FOH, but it took my third try at Vanguard before I finally stopped looking for something like EQ and gave this a try.

I tried the VZ/TZ server a while ago and left with the quickness after discovering it was very petulant and very "cliquish". This is to be expected where PVP is found to a certain extent but when you have GMs blatantly twinking friends and favorites it becomes an operation of futility in the name of fun.
A week ago they sent out a mass email saying they had fixed the "problems" but I wasn't buying it. It did renew my interest in EQEmu however and I decided to give this server a shot despite it's carebear nature. Gotta admit I'm having a blast so far.
If there was a red server out there with the integrity and population that P99 has it'd be perfect. But I'll take what I can get. There is absolutely nothing like EQ Classic. Ever. Period.
Thank you for this.

I was sitting in class and a girl that sits next to me was talking about WoW and I was thinking about how terrible that game is and reminded me how much I miss old school EQ. When I got home I googled "games like everquest 1" and it came up with a free browser based game that I cant remember the name of. I played it for about an hour and it pissed me off because its one of those click to walk to the point that you want to go to so I googled it again. I found a forum that was talking about how much people missed EQ classic and on the second page of the thread there was a link to this website. I downloaded everything and installed it instantly and here I am lol.

Saw a post on an Everquest facebook group that had a link to the article about P99 on tentonhammer. I didn't manage to get it installed that night, but I lost sleep thinking about the possibilities ;)

I tried the LOTRO trial - it was ok, but then I went back to EQ2 for a free seven days I had gotten, I guess from resetting my account, dunno.
Anyway, after a day or two in EQ2 an OOC "EQ nostalgia" chat started up - some dude named Tekma (I think) told me about this server.
Thought I'd check it out :)
My wife even played some and she kept swearing she was just too burnt out on EQ. She played from maybe a month after the original launch. I started up just as Kunark came out.

Someone made a sneaky reference to it on the official forums six months ago and so i've kept an eye on it from time to time. The time was right and I installed last night. Pure Heaven.
750 players online? 82 in east commonlands and 15 in each Freeport zone? Incredible!
THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!

Searched on Google forever trying to find an oldschool EQ server to play for free. Eventually found the post by Rogean about how to connect up to server and play. Just looked through a little and liked it.
