View Full Version : Exp Bonus when server goes live

PvE Risk / Reward: Compared to other servers, you gain 20% more XP per kill, and XP lost upon death is 50% less than normal (for both PvP and PvE deaths).
Sullon Zek featured a 20% xp bonus because the majority of the time you are pveing, someone would come by and wreck your day causing you not only lose a couple hours of xp, but you would also waste tons of time. I think that will hold true here.
So make up for a large amount of the time we will spend on corpse runs/hours long battles/defending camps there should be a 20% xp bonus when server goes live.

I like to think of it more as: I would rather spend the majority of my time pvp'ing than grinding. Not necessarily as someone ruined all my hard work in a day by killing me. If I want to show the dedication I have for my character by having the highest level and most pixels I will go play on P99.
More time for PVP, less for PVE

I actually enjoy grinding to some extent. A SMALL exp bonus wouldn't hurt. Could be offset with a small PVP exp penalty.
Just not easymode please.

20% xp bonus isn't gonna create any gaps, the powergamers who go from 1-50 without eatting sleeping or moving from comp are still gonna get there in 2 days
the 20% xp bonus is just gonna make it about half the regular pace of leveling on a blue server once you add in all the deaths from pvp

Lol, Smedy bringing the graphs. I still don't think we should look at it as "omg, i lost all my exp i was bluebin for that day because I got ganked", because you aren't going to lose that much exp anyways. My argument for the bonus is that others and myself included would rather spend more time PvP'ing and less time doing the grind. Especially if we want to draw more casual players to the server - i don't care if its classic or not. If I want classic, I'll go to Blue P99.
Its nice to be able to level to 10 in less than a month (exaggeration) while spending most of that time not actually leveling and chasing around lvl 10 clerics who can't afford all of their spells.

But thats just it. Its not like on Blue99 when you hit 50 (or 60 when Kunark comes out) things get stale. You then get to CONTINUE PVPING!
(im gonna pause here to let that sink in a bit)
And its not about people wanting to get 50 (or 60) in the first week. Thats going to happen with or without an exp bonus, unless the world runs out of adult sized diapers. Not all of us work part time at Papa Johns and can devout the time necessary to keep entertained with the classic grind. PvP requires a player base (weird isn't it), so keep the player base as high as possible by letting the casual players and bi-curious players from Blue99 to come here without worrying about sinking another 2-3 years of playing time to get to the fun competitive shit-fest that is EQ pvp.

How about increased exp in certain dungeons for people who want to grind out a couple levels before running off and killing people?
I'm really excited about r99. At high populations, there will be so few top level players there won't be many fights over dragons or planes. That's how it was on TZ. I was a little dismayed by what I saw on p99 with multiple guilds running all over the place stealing pulls.

Hey guys, I think 4 threads crying about leveling speed isn't enough. We need at least 5.
i agree with you about the whining in regard to the beta server leveling speed, if anything it's much too fast - the vast majority of people outlevel their budget and can't even afford a single lvl 8 spell by the time they get there.
however, threads about beta leveling speed are not really related to discussing a bonus when the server goes live.
technically the proposed live server is already going to be an amalgamation of different rules we had on various classic pvp servers with a dash of custom thrown in, it really shouldn't be off the table to discuss something that was in one of the classic pvp servers.

Far from the point. The message you failed to derive from my post was that the game doesn't END at max level. Why slow down the process for the casual players. You're not giving that much of an edge to the basement dweller by adding it in (they will max level within the first two weeks regardless), and this way you don't hinder those of us with outside obligations. Leave the "I spent so much time butt fucking pixels and reaching level 50 (or 60), I'm so glad exp was slow enough for me to fully explore all of the blue content on red99" to blue99.

this plus the fact even with 20% xp bonus (which is barely noticeable, especially on certain classes), the time spent on factors that dont exist on blue servers such as
pvping/getting ganked/hiding/ traveling in obscure ways/ farming plat bc u cant afford spells cuz someone stole ur koolaid/
makes it far longer to level to 50 on a red server then a blue server
on a blue server as my graph shows, you level at a constant rate (however fast you want grind monsters) on a red server there are other variables that cause you to stop leveling that dont exist on blue servers

The basic setup of this server is going to be very different from vztz or other custom red boxes people have played. Or at least thats what I've gathered from reading so far.
Basically heres how shit will work:
Leveling will take a long time. EXP rates on p99 are brutal. They're going to be the same here, with EXP loss on a PVP death meaning there is significant loss and risks anytime you go to fight others. Add that in with EXP loss on mob deaths and the grind to 50 (and 60 after Kunark) will be very time consuming. Does that mean this is a bad thing? No, not really, considering servers where you can hit max level in a week get boring quickly and die out. People obviously want to play on a box where they can level in a week, raid gear themselves then constantly fight each other or gank. That realistically will not be the case here. Most people won't hit 50 for a long time. Which actually isn't bad, because mid 30's and 40's PVP is fun as shit.
Rogean isn't putting YT or leaderboards in sadly, so the emphasis on PVP is that it will be used to handle mob disputes like raid targets. People out there will be rolling in gank squads for either kills on big names or coin, none of these kills will be advertised though and global OOC is going to be removed. However I think Rogean may consider leaving global OOC in if the server population is low enough. I wasn't around to see it, but when p99 had a population hovering around 200-300 global OOC existed on that server.
So if you consider these two conditions, you can basically assume that this will be nothing like the rest of the boxes. You'll level slow, getting pked will mean something at higher levels, and nobody is going to know you killed anyone else unless you're screenshotting it and bringing proof to the boards. PVP on this server will be used as a method to handle raid disputes, or grief. Past boxes it was like one giant arena fight where everyone leveled as fast as possible, geared themselves, then spent the rest of their gaming time on the box just hunting people down or fighting over dragons. People will still fight over dragons, but from what I've gathered PVP is just going to be a way to dispute issues over camps, raid targets, etc. on this server.
Is that a good thing? The fuck if I know. I just want to bind camp Harrison at some point and steal his welfare money.

I leveled just fine without any bonuses on live; SZ players got this because of exp loss on pvp death (here it will be a very small exp loss). Having said that, I would like to see an exp bonus so we can hopefully steal more of the blue99 players.

That's crazy. If you get attacked by the wrong players, they'll just let you loot your corpse then follow you out and kill you again, drop you another 30% and now you lost more than half a level in 10 minutes because that kind of policy rewards grievers.

I agree. That's why I said just keep it to a few dungeons. Befallen has a 200% bonus on p99, doesn't it? Sol A, too? WHy not just keep the same exp rules as p99? It works out pretty well, I think.
No exp loss on pvp death, though. Losing coin and having to walk back are penalty enough across all circumstances.
Item loot for duels, though, that could be something.

xp loss is fine where its at right now, it takes like 6 kills to get one blue taken away
infact it should be raised if anything
btw some of you don't realize we are at like 1000% xp bonus right now, what gloinz is proposing is simply 120% xp, barely noticeable amount in regular play

Yeah I do but it isn't very user friendly to have be forced to stop playing. I only said what I said because I've seen the worst of a PvP server. I've also had my guild and groups trained on on p99. There are dumb shits out there just waiting to make life miserable for other players. You can deny it if you want but it's true. Most of the players I've met on p99 have been awesome and there are others were I thought "why don't you grow up or find something better to do."
It's also part of the reason Verant/SOE turned off item loot on TZ...people were losing hard earned items because some people would just sit invis and wait for someone to be loh and/or lom, then they'd swoop in at the tail end of the fight and knock someone out. You may think this is all fair play but it will force players to just go back to blue and the red player base will drop.

i feel like with xp loss on PVP death that it's only fair that there's a (small) global bonus like 20%. pvp exp loss is an additional way to lose exp (and time) that is above and beyond normal xp loss, and it's still technically classic to have a pvp server bonus. add this to the fact that we have an 8 level range instead of a 4 level range, plus the dynamic system - there's going to be a lot more potential for pvp death than there was on RZ.
