Chapter 1
Staring at the hairy footed Rogue Masters in front of me. I heard the sounds of battle out side of the room I was in. I quickly trained up my piercing and ran down stairs. To much delight and horror I see a Dark Mage destroying my town guards! Such power, such atrocities, such..such opportunities! Hey so sue me I'm a Rogue. I would steal from my mother if I needed too. So I started grabbing the shields off these fallen Guardians of my town. The Dark Mage didn't seem to mind at all! With no warning again.. A flash of fire and pain filled the air. Another guard was under attack. I quickly ran to the wall in fear I might have been next! The Mage looked at me with fire coming forth from his hands! "Care to make some coins my friend?" Staring in my inventory and noticing that it was shy of coins. I nodded. The Dark Mage beckons me close. So I abide. "Take this bag, go into the merchants and sell it.. bring me back the profits of pp.. the rest is yours for your troubles." Being the Rogue that I am. I found this to be quite the interesting proposal. I agreed and hurried off to sell the wares back to the merchant the guards were protecting! Quickly I ran back to not keep the angry Dark Mage waiting. I would not like to end up along side the corpses now stacking up in my town. "Your Platinum and bag back my Dark friend." I said with a bow. He flickered his hands and suddenly fire came forth once more it began to surround me! I thought I was a goner! It did not burn? I was fine. In fact there was nothing wrong with me! I looked at my hands and feet nothing.. I was completely fine. However I now had a different glow to me. I had a living flame not touching my body but protecting me! "Go now little one, kill to your hearts content, I will summon you again for more errands!" said the Dark Mage.
I did as he said ran into the Misty area just outside the towns safety... and so my adventure begins.. Gold in pocket, slain guards spear in hand, ahhh the life of a Rogue. Turn bad situations into profit!
I could barely hear the cries of the town guards any more as I eased my way into the every darkening forest that now surrounded the shire. I peered back over my shoulder to see the two towns guards half asleep standing watch over the entrance to the shire. I should have been paying more attention. Grrrrrrrrr... a throaty low growl came from in front of me, when my mind wandered back towards the guards. I turned quickly fumbling at my new spear acquired not more then a few minutes ago. Trying to collect myself, I realized it was a black wolf in front of me! Nappy black hair and salivating fangs greeted my eyes as I forwarded my view. Then quickly I regained my composer. "Hmmph, I can take you beasty," I said allowed. Tightening my grip around the wooden shaft of the spear and pointing the spear tip towards the angered beast, I inched forward.
The black wolfs mane stood up as it began to crouch and jerk forward towards me. Obviously not frighten by me or the spear in it's gnashing face. It leaped forward at me. Seeking it's teeth deep into my leg. "AHHH!!," shouted in pain.. It felt as though half my life was drained from in one fell vicious bite. Swinging my spear in more panic then any movements just taught to me by my Trainer. I tried a over head swing, MISS! My spear bounced off the ground as I clearly missed the agile Black Wolf. The black wolf began it's strike at me again, snarling and biting viciously again and again. He some how missed me this time.. I was shocked, the pain in my leg was now replaced by the thought of death! Collecting my thoughts as quickly as I could knowing that this is it, this is where you live or die! I thrust my spear forward as taught by my Rogue Master. I struck a hit! The blood rain down the side of the black wolf coating it's mangy fur in a matted warm stickiness as it yipped in pain! Retrieving my spear I tried to steady my self, staying on the balls of my feet so that I would not be caught flat footed. The enraged wolf came at me again! Blood coming out of his mouth, frothing as he leaped again at me! This time he met my spear head on, it sank deep into his chest as he came down on top of me. The black wolf was not done yet! It continued with the spear in its chest to gnaw at me, flashing it's teeth and covering me with blood. The black wolf then found it's mark again. He tore deep into my shoulder with a vicious mauling of my flesh. I again screamed at the top of my lungs. Never have I felt such agonizing pain. I started to feel the darkness of the forest setting in. The green air that hung over the two of us combatants began to sink in. The wolf began to open his jaws again to bite down on my neck. So, this is it....some adventurer I am... I thought to myself as I knew I was done for. As the blood soaked fangs came down on me, they seemed to have stopped short! A sound of flesh being cleaved was loud and in my face. I opened my eyes once more to see a town guard standing over me. Spear thrust deeply into the head of the black wolf which now laid off of me and on the ground to my side.
"Heed more caution next time young one, we won't always be there to save you," said the guard turning with out remorse to his post.
Collecting myself and dragging myself up to my feet. Thanks.. I mumbled to myself. Feeling rather ashamed now that I was saved by the same Halfings I was making profit off of. Limping sorely back to where they stood. I took a seat on the edge of the moldy cave entrance. "I shall rest here for now," I whispered out loud to no one.
"Havick, come to me," I heard a strange voice in my head. I looked up at the guard who was staring blankly out into the forest.
"What?" I said directed towards the guards. The guards turned towards me for a moment, then back towards the vastness of the forest. "Hmmph, noob," one of the guards said harshly.
"Havick, I'm going to be logging off soon, you need to come here," I heard it again in my mind. "Who is saying that?" I said allowed. "It's I the Dark Mage," come into town I have one last errand for you boy."
I raised myself up again, began to limp in towards the entrance to town...

Still sore from the fight I continued my way through the entrance to town. The smell of battle was still fresh in the air. The town guards still lay in piles as though a explosion went off and left everyone motionless. Doing what I do best I made the best at of the situation.. I started gathering shields. Dark Mage, "I'm logging soon, how much have you accumulated?" "50 platinum, my Dark friend, and my many thanks for your help," I said with gratefulness. The Dark Mage with a half smile on his face reached into a sac he had draped carefully over his side, and pulled forth a dirk. The dirk was no ordinary dirk. It seemed to have a slight glow to it.. it was a dark and eerie glow. "Is it cursed?" I asked with out much caution. "On the contrary, it's been blessed with powers... dark powers," said the Dark figure who stood in front of me palms up dagger laying flat in them. "I'm willing to part with this for that 50 platinum that you have made today.. plus you will owe me a favor in the near future." said the Dark Mage. Reaching for my purse and feeling it nice and full.. I gripped the coin sack and weighted the thought in my mind. How long will it be again before I have such a full purse. I thought to myself... "With this Dirk, you will be able to make your money back quite quickly, my young Rogue," claimed the Dark Mage. Pulling my ties lose and letting the purse come free of my belt.. I bounced it once in my hands to remember the feeling of 50 platinum clank down with a jingle. "Deal," I tossed the coins in the air to the Dark Mage. The bag seemed to slow down mid air and come to a halt near his hands. The Dirk then in the same fashion slowly made it's way from his hands up into thin air and moved towards me. I had to take a double take, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I began out of natural reaction to raise my hands in defense. The Dark Mage just gave a slight half grin from under his cloaked hood. "Use it well, and don't forget, you owe me a favor..Rogue" he said turning on his heels and moving towards the edge of town. With out looking back he added, "welcome to Project 1999." I was glad that encounter had came to a end, magic users always made me feel uneasy. Reaching out to the Dirk that floated still in front of me, I grasped the leathery grip. It felt cool to the touch. It was incredibly light. It felt like something un-natural. It felt amazing! Twirling it around in fashions of a fight. I began making thrust moves with it. "This will come in handy..." I thought to myself.
Looking over my shoulder again to thank the Dark Mage... he was gone. Well, time to get back to training. My wounds were almost fully healed now. This land.. it's so amazing. This.. Project 1999.
I turned and made my way back towards the Misty grove just out side of town.

I started to feel a bit more confident again with my dirk in hand. This weapon felt very good in my hand and I felt the Dark Mage was right in his assumption. I could make my money back with this weapon.
Learning from my past however, I did not rush straight into a fight. I'm a Rogue after all! We do it best from the shadows. Looking about the forest from the edge of the tunnels, I tried to feel like I was part of the world around me. Just as my Rogue Master taught. Be one with your surroundings. If your by a rock, become a rock. If your by bushes become a bush. Looking up to the sky covered in that green mist that hung so low here. Closing my eyes..
The guards that were peering at the young Rogue seen him talking to himself as though he were a bit insane. Noticed he was staring at the sky. Then suddenly poof as though he disappeared entirely he was gone. They glanced at each other then back towards the woods.
"I could get used to this," I thought to myself feeling I was well hidden I began to take a step. CRACK! Looking down I noticed out of the entire forest of green lush grown. I managed to find the one friggin stick laying on the ground to stomp on. "God, I"m as loud as a heard of elephants." I grumbled to myself. Attempting it again.. I manged to watch the ground I was starting to become one with.
I heard the sound of leather wings beating the air. Flap, flap, flap. A steady rhythm, you could almost dance to it. I slowly crept up to the sound. Sure enough there it was, a large bat hovering mid air just looking for some prey. Sneaking as best as I can staying to the shadows I knew this was my chance to test out my amazing new Dirk. Gripping the Dirk tightly I moved in like a cat stalking it's prey. Walking directly behind the flying beast, it didn't seam to notice my presence. Grinning to myself and thinking, "this is all to easy" I lunged forward sinking my Dirk deep into the back of the Large Bat! The Large bat turned to me with a loud painful cry and began it's attack on me. It bit quickly and fiercely at me. I was a bit a head of the injured Bat. I moved to it's side and counted it's attacking with one of my own. WHIFF. Nearly losing my grip on the dagger and my footing I stumbled forward. Why was I so stupid, over confidence will kill you every time! The Bat seeing I had fumbled my attack, countered quickly and bit at me. As the bat made his plung into me. He sank his teeth into my chest. "AAARRGH," I yelled in pain! Yet so did the Bat, he seemed to screech in pain from the bite. I thought this to be odd. Looking at my chest... I had something growing from it! It appeared to be Thorns! I had wooden thorns on my chest arms and back springing forth! The bat began it's attack once more. Biting down at me once more. This time it bit the thorn, and it impaled itself deep into its head. Lifelessly the Bat fell to my feet.
Blue lights began to flow around me, I felt as though I could conquer more in life. These bats seemed to be easy now for me. So did the rats and wolves. I appeared back at my chest. The thorns seemed to be still there. I wondered if this was a permanent thing. Suddenly I heard the sound of a wolf howling. A small chill ran up my back. Right when I thought I was doing well a wolf snuck up on me again. I spun quick about Dirk in hand ready to fight. Nothing was there. However, there was a slender looking Elf figure that stood in front of me. With a warm smile the Elf approached. "Jumpy are we?" he began to cast a spell. I felt my chest wood begin to heal quickly. "Where is the wolf I just heard," I said quickly.. my eyes darting left and right looking for it. "There's no wolf around here my friend," the thin Druid said to me. "Then... what was that sound.." I said inquisitively. The Druid chuckled a bit. Try to run forward a bit. Thinking this was odd request.. but being that he just healed my wounds I would play the wood creatures game. I took a few quick steps forward and realized I moved twice as fast as I normally could. In half the efforts! "Wha..?" Putting his hand up to stop me from speaking, "Spirit of the wolf." It's a spell you will come to love it, need it.." This will also help you. The Druid began to cast a spell again. Green magic filled the air! I felt my hard thicken. It was like my skin turned into stone. Yet I'm able to move freely. "This is a odd feeling?" I said out loud. "It will aid you in your fights," the Druid said with a smile. "Come, join my party." he said. I thought to myself why not this guy has shown me no harm. "I'm going to take you some where a bit more challenging." he said as he began to raise his hands and cast once more.
The air began to fill blue lights, they dance about us like fire flies. I felt as though my world was disappearing around me. Suddenly I felt light headed.. drowsy and when my focus came to.. I was standing in a open field with Large Stones fixed in a circular pattern. There were skeletons laying about here..One began to raise up from it's slumber! A Skeleton is coming back to life?! What hell has he brought me too!
