"I have been researching the early stages of getting the godawful UI back (the classic one, not the velious one.) and to be honest, it's completely possible, SOE never removed anything from the graphics DLL that wouldn't make it possible."
ETA until everyone is forced into the old UI? :)

I'd use it.
There is one available now but it is pretty buggy and still broken up into floating windows.

Seriously don't see the point, the current UI is Velious which is eventually coming.
Why remove it only to put it back... other issues that need addressed that are far more important imo.

Your definition of eventually is very different than mine.

Fixing game mechanics is far more important than a mandatory UI that'll be repealed at a later date..

I would use it, but I wouldn't want anyone to spend too much time with it with other things on the to-do-list...

Yeah lets worry about game mechanics first.

I remember the first thing I thought back in Beta in 1998 was, what the heck I can only see 1/3 of the screen. I remember being annoyed at this because EQ is such a huge vibrant world, and constricting your field of view to make something "classic" is equivalent to tunnel vision, both in game and metaphorically.
Velious UI made the game more fun, more engaging to play, and that is what I feel like when I think classic.
old UI was utterly horrendous

agree'd. wanting the old UI for the sake of having it is a waste of resources. not to mention how is that going to work with the masses of widescreen resolutions? do i get to have big black bars on each side of my screen to make up for the fact that it will only run in 4:3 aspect ratio?

Yeah lets worry about game mechanics first.
I think the more correct statement would be: Let's let the volunteer unpaid developers worry about what they want to worry about first.

I would love it if everyone was forced to use the same classic UI that was timeline appropriate. The biggest problem with this is probably the way the UI is built has switched overtime. The "velious" UI on this server for example is just a standard post Luclin XML based UI with a custom design so that it can look as close to the velious one as possible. I don't think pre-luclin UI's were even remotely similar in architecture and design, but it's been awhile since I've actually looked at the files.
Would be awesome though, secrets is awesome for doing stuff like this (brown skellys, anti-hack; all AWESOME things imo).

its definetly something past Luclin, lots of windows and tabs on it that are not even part of the Al'kabor UI

If I remember right the "classic" UI had two views. the small window with the chat box your class icon, sells and the main menu open on the right side with health and hp. and the "full screen" UI you could access by hitting f10. Hotbutton banks only had 6 buttons, and there was only 1 chat box available.
Not that I dislike the current ui's available, but it would be interesting to see the old UI once more. I would most likely spend time in full screen mode unless the devs figure a way to support high resolutions.

Ventrillo is not classic. Please treat this software as a 3rd party software that is as game-breaking as MQ. Anyone caught using Ventrillo should be banned. Raid orders should be diseminated through guild chat, which should have to be sorted through with all of the other battle spam.

The current UI is obviously Titanium... because that's the client which we use. :P
The modifications made to it are as close as we can currently get to the Velious UI.
That being said, people are confused about their past, or don't understand the difference between classic, velious, and post-Velious UIs.
You weren't forced to see the stone borders all the time.. f10 switched between no UI, transparent UI, and stone UI. Transparent UI was when you didn't have inventory or options up. (similar to velious)

If you pressed f10, you would see this screen.

Pressing the inventory button, or persona button would show this page. Inventory was collapsible by the button at the top right.

This UI persisted until Velious, which didn't change it *that* much. Screen resolutions were allowed to be higher, you could move around the UI elements. Also, 10 hotkey buttons.

Pressing f10 would still yield the stone borders of old interface and UI elements were basically the same, except they could be moved around. Note the ctrl+a abilities box. This was still the Velious UI. It persisted through mid-Luclin, when it was absolutely unsupported.

Spellbooks still had the fullscreen effect until 2002, when spellbook meditating was totally removed. After this time, came the Luclin/PoP era interfaces, and I'm not sure after that.

a part of a classic UI revamp involves not being able to alt+tab and not being able to change your resolution.
there were some things about classic that sucked, like multi boxing. i am glad that the server operators and developers have acknowledged this and changed policies accordingly. let's come to the same conclusion about the UI.

The stone look very much reminds me of old school D&D games. Eye of the beholder, Warriors of the Eternal Sun.

This would barely effect me. My layout is nearly identical to the original UI layout. I would love to have the old gear screen though. That would definitely add to the classic feel.

I like this.
I was also curious (being the vain bastard I am) is there a way currently to be able to swing the camera view around to see yourself (when in 3rd person)? I seem to remember that you could do that in classic...

Who is this Onyyn pimp? And I'm assuming that's not the same Droxx that plays on P99 eh?
I don't think pre-luclin UI's were even remotely similar in architecture and design
The way I understand it is that they were actually very similar. I believe The Velious UI was XML based just like the system we use now, only it was built into the client so it couldn't be altered.

In certain third-person views (F9) you can pivot the camera by holding the right mouse button

Voice communication was available in classic, it just wasn't as prevalent. Shut up.
