Which release do you think will impact the blue server more, VP or Velious?

And what do you think the server high point will be?

red99 will impact it the most.

So no chance of getting 1k ever again? I wish I was here at server launch.

server launch was like.. 100-200 people at most? I think it peaked with kunark release, and will never hit as high as it did unless they go on some marketing spree, get more GMs/guides.

As a matter of fact, people get to the top, see how shitty it is and just leave.

The server couldn't support more than 100 people really.

Velious launch might see a new high, who knows. That expansion was better than Kunark anyways.

i just got on today for the first time in weeks and saw less than 300... which is the first time ive seen that, and only 20ish on r99.
i guess everyone got sick of the poop socking with still no epics/VP

Could be the fact that Battlefield 3 was released on the 25th. Other factors .. it's Friday :)

No idea, I'm still enjoying the adventure.

Well if Kunark was any indication.. when an expansion comes out the population will spike for a week or so. I can't imagine anything different would happen when Velious comes out. Not to mention Velious is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Yeah...lots of people tend to be at work during these hours. I tend to see 100-300 in the mornings and 600-800 in the evening. I'm sure we will see bumps with every new content release.

Velious and to a lesser extent epics will both likely have a greater impact on player population then either VP or red99, both of which I think primarily concern a small, but very vocal minority. EQ PVP is so quirky and silly, it interests a different kind of player then regular EQ, it makes running around as a 7xGM with trapped pouches in UO look like a well designed and intentional PVP system.

I'm glad VP is finally going in, but the attention it's received is absurd given that it's mostly just handing out pixel candy for 2 guilds. I don't think anyone is anticipating either guild to have any difficulty with the content.

VP holds no appeal to new players. However Velious has many leveling zones and loot for lower level characters.

MrSparkle001

I disagree.

You don't see the blue server losing players to red? I do. I see a big population dip the first week, followed by a sustained dip.

There are a lot of good games out and coming out. I bet that is a reason for a dip in population.

10 people (because boxing isn't allowed on launch) is a big population dip?

Haha. I think it will be the novelty of it that causes the initial dip.

I really don't see it making a difference. They people who want to be on Red already don't play on blue, they just bitch about it on the forums constantly.

I think you see a small dip at the beginning simply because it's a new and even playing field. Then as the hardcores and assholes pull ahead that server will take a hit.

In hindsight yes, but when you quit UO to go play Rallos when EQ came out it didn't really seem that way.

velious

server high has already come and gone

This.

I think if Velious came out in a timely manner it might have a shot at topping the record, but I don't think that is likely given how busy the few developers we do have are already. I don't know how big of an undertaking Velious is compared to what else they've done, but I've gotten the impression that they haven't done very much work on it yet, and if it is as sizable of a project as Kunark was, I don't expect it anytime soon. I think in that time frame, a lot of people will actually quit (not just take breaks with the intention of coming back like people did for Kunark), which will definitely hurt the whole return thing.

That being said, Velious is a huge draw for raiders - I'd say much more so than VP. Since a big chunk of the community is raiders, I think it will bring some people back, just not as many as Kunark.

Definitely Velious.

Velious is not only a draw for the hard core raiders, but also the casual raiders. Being able to take 2-3 groups and hunt giants in Kael as a raid is huge for those who would like to raid, but just don't have the time or commitment.

i stopped playing cause got bored of not having solid groups during offpeak times / no boxing allowed. pretty much made the game un-playable.

I think you're right, unless sony gets hacked again. But I doubt it. They probably aren't asleep at the keyboards now and are ready for it. So...

I do think, though, that the population will stay relatively steady. Too many people have been here. They may be away now, but they'll stop by every now and then. That should add some resiliency.

When the pvp server is no longer beta, I foresee some leaving to go there.

Then there's EQNext. Depending how how much it sticks. Me, I am strongly tempted to try out EQ2. I'd probably try that before I tried EQNext, if EQNext even comes out.

bigger bump from Velious.

I don't think there were as many changes to velious as there were to kunark. Shouldn't be as much to do IMO.

The time when you could have tried EQ2 and it would have a link with EQ1 has come and gone.

I know there are some of us, who simply don't play like we used to 10 years ago. Myself I am 30 now, not 19 in college, I have a mortgage, real job, and other crap I do in real life, that I didn't the first time around.

With that, I log in maybe a couple hours here and there, and then not at all for a couple weeks due to life, but I expect I will be logging in and out to play p99 for a while to come, and yea when Kunark came out is when a lot of people, who I imagine are similar to me logged in again to play, and I see no reason that Velious won't do the same.

p99 is sort of a niche thing, and as I recall when Velious came out the first time is when people went ape shit over the game. With that, I know of dozens of people who have accounts now but don't really play, but loved Velious more than some of their own kids!

As for red99, most people who want to play that long term, likely aren't playing blue regularly anyhow, and therefor won't really make a difference to server pop.

Most of this has already been said, I just don't like copying quotes and stuff, hah
