HUGE LEVELING EXPLOIT!

Currently this server has a HUGE leveling exploit several of its' well-known people here (on the forums) have abused to level up. The mob is located in Misty Thicket. The name of the spawn is Slaythe (http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.html?id=2110).

He is used in a quest called Avenger Battle Axe (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=432).

"Bronin Higginsbot is sometimes found in Rivervale and sometimes near the southern tower in Misty Thicket. When you ask Bronin about the Emerald shard, he says he will give it to you if you do a small favor. Apparently a bounty hunter by the name of Slaythe is after him. He says if you return a piece of his body, he will give you the emerald. Slaythe is beyond the wall in Misty Thicket. He appears to be a Froglok (around level 21 or so)! He hops around between the Orc camp and the wall. You may have to talk to Bronin to get him to spawn. If you defeat him, you get a froglok leg (lore item), a few gold, and the following faction adjustments: Frogloks of Kurnak gets worse and Sarnak, Swamp Giants of Kurnak and Iskar get better...."

Apparently there are people abusing this quest and spawning Slaythe instantly (see above for the portion of the quest where you are to slay him to advance the quest). I personally know people who have gained 6 levels (15-21) in just one night from exploiting him.

Here is a rather small list of players I know for a fact who have abused Slaythe:

What bothers me the most is these players chose not to report this exploit, instead they chose to abuse it. This server is suppose to remain as close to classic as possible. I'm pretty sure classic had no instant spawning mobs to experience on...the main thing is the above players and anyone else who has abused this leveling exploit chose to take advantage of it, hurting our server and making it unfair to the rest of population who is leveling the right way.

I tend to believe the people accused didn't exploit this, but I know for a fact they exploited the Wands.

You use 2 Wands to kill guards, they drop more PP than it takes to recharge said wands. Rinse and Repeat.

I've already posted multiple times how to fix recharging of those items, but the Dev's seem to turn a blind eye, so Whatev.

Slaythe was in the game before Kunark was released.
Earliest post available about Slaythe in the link you provided dates back to February of 2000 and Kunark was released in April.
So unless the Kunark faction hit was added later it is most likely a mistake.

Also, the earliest post about the Eye of Stormhammer quest clearly states:
Just as a side note but Slaythe can be a pretty good kill since he can be shared by potentially a limitless amount of people since he is triggered by saying something. ohh well just my 2cp .
I will conceded that this post is from July of 2000 which is post Kunark, but it's also confirmed that the mob is pre-Kunark.

So far I am not seeing any conclusive evidence that this mob should not exist in its current state with its current spawn mechanic.

Seems to be a common trend with things like repeatedly spawning an NPC being marked as OK, it going public, then being nerfed. The hard and fast rule does not exist, but maybe it can't.

It does show (ahem, for the bluebies) that the red server players definitely have the tricks up their sleeve and can contribute to posting bugs / improving the server (read: griefing by getting exploits addressed).

The fact that I haven't logged in in 3 full days and you're only 38 is a testament to how bad you are. Including a funny SK screen when he avoided SK like the plague while I was leveling, I logged for 30minutes to shower and he had came into the zone trying to level and immediately left when the champ came back.

Also, I personally got 3 cloaks (that I solod, 5 total when including pulling it to our lowbies in SK b/c I didnt want to dick with it - server first was on Nov 21 when I was L24 if that gives any indication how much time I spent leveling my guild rather than myself) before your first and solo'd rathyl (reincarnate) at L28, got 2 HBB, and drelzna - this was before your wand exploiting so you were around L22. I love the server so far don't get me wrong, but I hope the P1999 quality/rep stays intact here. Staff neglect is like a cancer that spreads very rapidly and the playerbase will lose confidence quickly if they feel like nobody is listening (examples: the last VZTZ, my VZTZ, etc)

Really though, it was one or two people, casters at that. I just wouldn't set the precedent (hint: people take notice to this) that you can milk an exploit until its fixed and not receive, let alone expect, any kind of repercussion (roll back wise) for doing so.

The server rules clearly state that you're not allowed to exploit bugs. OBVIOUS bugs. Why should they only lose a partial amount of the cheated exp?

As darwoth said, leveling speed is always dictated by mana efficiency and downtime. Who cares about an instant spawning level 3 mob when you can see 10 level 3s virtually anywhere you stand 1 zone over. Who cares about a lvl 15 instant respawn when 2 zones over you can stand in a few different spots and see damn near 20 lvl 15 mobs.

Maybe if you put the same effort into leveling as you do whining on the forums you would be the same level as everyone else.

Exping off an overlooked broken quest is not how the game is intended to be played and absolutely qualifies as an exploit in my eyes.

At the very least I would check with staff to confirm it, but Salty isn't the type of guy that would do that. Same dude who knew how to crash zones with Macroquest on VZTZ + promised Keegan and I he had some magical contact from Fires of Heaven who would fix and run VZTZ (turned out to be a load of bullshit and an excuse for him to ego trip on the forums).

I'd say exping off of an overlooked broken quest is pretty creative rather than exploitative. It's not like the mob is particularly easy (it's actually pretty hard for its level, being rogue class and all), and it's not like it somehow prevents you from needing to med between kills. The only advantage to it is the instant respawn trigger (also limited by recovery time) and the misty thicket zone exp.
