I haven't run into that issue before. Is it possible to keep two key mapping profiles on your OS and switch between them?
I have only ever used Qwerty.
Sorry for the lack of help. Try posting in those forums. :/ GL

Here's my video walkthrough for making your own p99 game from scratch

This is on a 2012 macbook air using version 10.8.5
If something was explained wrong, let me know and I'll do a better take!
I followed this video and got everything up and running (Thanks! :)) with a 2010 MBP on 10.6.8. I was able to up the gamma in wine but still have an issue with my trackpad.
Trying to open bags (two finger click) doesn't always work, I usually have to spam it a few times for it to go through, anyone else seen this issue?

Be sure to upgrade your engine AND wrapper. I don't use two finger click with my trackpad so enabling right click through Key Press was an easy solution for me.

Thanks king, what is right click through key press?
I've been testing it more and if I do two finger click and press down it will open the bag on the first try, if I try to do two finger touch it takes about 3 quick spams to go through

In your WineSkin Options select "Emulate Three Button Mouse" and use the key combos there to right click and center click. It makes using a trackpad so much easier, for me anyhow. It's not like my left thumb has anything else to do, lol.

Dear Fellow Mac Users,
I am on a MBP, OS X 10.9, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7. I have never had an issue with updating the files from P99. I have never had an issue with the game working... until now.
I am told the spell files are not "up to date" or did not update, even though I unzipped the V30 files and installed them as usual. Hence, I am unable to play. Please note that I am a careful patcher; e.g., I do watch what I do with the resources folder, etc. and only patch files that need to be overwritten. More, I have even tried saving the old folders elsewhere and rewriting all the new files. Still no luck.
A little bit more: I haven't played in about 4-5 months probably. Is there something else I should do or seek out content-wise? Should I do a complete re-install? Seems like a waste considering such would be a pain in the ass, but I do want to always have the option to play.
Anyone else have a similar problem?
Please advise.

Has anyone experienced instant disconnects when using mac/wine?
No lag or packet loss just an immediate black screen that reads "You have been disconnected"
Never happens on my PC so I don't think it is an isp/router issue
Happens every few hours pretty regularly, turned off firewall, not sure what's wrong

Yes, turn off "set date and time automatically" in your clock's settings. The time change, when it updates, immediately disconnects you for some reason.

Thanks so much for your reply Zapatos! Can you specify which setting? I'm turning off both to test it but wanted to clarify.

It's the latter, "set date and time automatically". Turn that off, assuming you're getting messages in your mac console are similar to:
11:27:54.220 PM com.apple.time[141]: Interval maximum value is 946100000 seconds (specified value: 9223372036854775807).
When this happens in game:

Why does this happen? I haven't a clue :(

This is my first post, so hello to all!
So, I've tried to install EQ a few times on my Mini running Mavericks 10.9.1, and I'm having the darndest time.
First of all, I haven't had any success with the Project 1999 Wrapper provided for download on the first page of this thread. There's an error when using the Wineskin when I try to install new software (the error pops up after selecting to install new software).
Then next, I attempted to use the Project 1999 Wrapper V2 that was posted back in this thread and although I was able to install the software, I was not able to load the game. The Project 1999 icon would bobble a few times on my dock, and then quickly disappear.
Finally, I followed Bandito's Youtube tutorial and low and behold when I created a new wrapper it allowed me to install new software. In the end, I just couldn't open the wrapper, it would provide me with another error saying something like "Cannot open the application. -10810"
Anyone?

I believe I had to go into Wineskin->Advanced->Tools->Winetricks and select "glsl=disabled", "d3dx9" and "core" (in Fonts) for the game to load and display character models correctly.

I've been using Mavericks for a while. The only bug I encountered (related to playing P99) is that I can't move the Wine window between my two monitors. Disabling "Displays have separate Spaces" fixed that for me. It also disabled the new features Mavericks introduced (like having your Dock and menu bar on both displays) but that doesn't really bother me.

I’ve been successfully running EQ on Mavericks, 10.9.1, without issue. I just created a new installation and wrote this guide while doing it. I then tested the installation to ensure functionality.
1.) First go to: http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/tiki-index.php?page=Downloads. Download Wineskin Winery 1.7.
2.) Unzip the file and open it. Mavericks may prompt you when opening new software
downloaded on the internet, so choose “Open”.
3.) It should also say “New Engine(s) available!”. Click the refresh button to be sure.
Then click the + symbol under Installed Engines. Choose the latest version to install.
I am running WS9Wine1.7.8. Now click “Update” under “Wrapper Version”.
I am running Wineskin-2.5.12.
http://imageshack.us/a/img19/4820/qc8s.jpg
5.) Click “Create New Blank Wrapper”. Give it a name like “Project 1999”. It will take a
few moments to create. Click “Show in Finder” to see where it placed it (should be the same folder). You can close Wineskin Winery after it is complete.
6.) This is where you’ll need to mount Disc image 1 of EQ Titanium, or insert Disc 1. If it’s an image, you should be able to just right click->Open the file (or double-click) and DiskImageMounter will automatically mount it on your desktop.
7.) Now open your new “Project 1999” app and choose “Install Software”. Click “Choose Setup Executable”. Browse to “setup.exe” on disc 1 of EQ Titanium, select it, and click “choose”.
8.) The Everquest installer should launch. Click next.
9.) When prompted for an install location, we’re using “C:\P99” (without quotes) for this guide.
10.) Proceed with the install. When prompted for the next disc, right click the current image and choose “Eject”; then right click the next image and choose “Open”. Once the next image is mounted, click “OK” in the Everquest installer. Click “Finish” when the installer is done.
11.) Now go to your “Project 1999” app you just created & installed Everquest Titanium into, and right click -> select “Show Package Contents”. Right click -> Open Wineskin. You should be prompted for the executable and it should already be selected at “/P99/eqgame.exe”. Click “OK”, or browse to it if the executable is somehow not already selected.
http://imageshack.us/a/img809/8178/mzqn.jpg
12.) Now you have the Wineskin dialog up. Click “Advanced”. Type “patchme” in the EXE Flags text box:
http://imageshack.us/a/img844/4117/anvj.jpg
13.) Click the “Tools” tab at the top. Click “Winetricks”.
http://imageshack.us/a/img855/1593/cmpc.jpg
a.) Under “dlls”, select the checkbox next to “d3dx9” and click the “Run” button; click run again when prompted. Wineskin will then download and install Direct X 9.
b.) Under “settings”, select the checkbox next to “glsl=disabled” and click the “Run” button; click run again when prompted.
c.) Under “fonts”, select the checkbox next to “core” and click the “Run” button; click run again when prompted.
d.) Click the “Close” button on the bottom right. Click the red X to close Wineskin Advanced.
http://imageshack.us/a/img822/22/zfi4.jpg
14.) You should still have the Package Contents of your “Project 1999” app open; if not, right click on your “Project 1999” app and select “Show Package Contents”. Go into your “drive_c”. Then go into your “P99” folder. Leave this open for the following steps.
a.) Delete the following files from your “P99” folder or move them into a “Backup” folder:
arena.eqg
arena_EnvironmentEmitters.txt
lavastorm.eqg
nektulos.eqg
Nektulos_EnvironmentEmitters.txt
15.) Download the Project 1999 Game Files from http://www.project1999.com/files/P99Files31.zip
a.) Unzip the file and go into the folder.
b.) These files will need to be copied/moved into your Everquest Titanium installation folder, but DO NOT just copy them into it; if you just drag them all in they will overwrite the previous folders and erase them without merging.
16.) Have your “P99” Finder window open on one side and your “P99Files30” next to it for copying between the two.
http://imageshack.us/a/img827/8886/ctoi.jpg
17.) Select and drag, or copy paste, the following files from your “P99Files30” folder into your “P99” folder; choose “Replace” when prompted and select “Apply to All”:
dbstr_us.txt
dsetup.dll
eqhost.txt
Launch Titanium.bat
spells_us.txt
spellsnew.eff
18.) Now go into your “Resources” folders from within both “P99” and “P99Files30” folders. Drag, or copy/paste, the following files into your “P99” Resources folder from the “P99Files30” Resources folder; choose “Replace” when prompted and select “Apply to All”:
GlobalLoad.txt
loadscreen.jpg
19.) Now go back into your “P99” and “P99Files30” folders. Go into your “uifiles” folders for both “P99” and “P99Files30” folders. Go into the “default” folders for both as well. Drag, or copy/paste, the following files into your “P99” Default folder from the “P99Files30” Default folder; choose “Replace” when prompted and select “Apply to All”:
classic_pieces01.tga
EQLS_background_01.tga
EQLS_background_02.tga
EQLS_background_03.tga
EQLS_background_04.tga
EQLS_background_05.tga
EQLS_background_06.tga
EQUI_Animations.xml
EQUI_BankWnd.xml
EQUI_CastSpellWnd.xml
EQUI_GemsGameWnd.xml
EQUI_HotButtonWnd.xml
gemicons01.tga
gemicons02.tga
gemicons03.tga
spells01.tga
spells02.tga
spells03.tga
spells04.tga
spells05.tga
spells06.tga
spells07.tga
window_pieces01.tga
window_pieces02.tga
20.) Now you must create an “eqclient.ini” plain text file inside the “P99” folder. For some reason the eqclient.ini file is not properly created during installation or during first launch. This will create a base eqclient.ini so the game will launch the first time. After you launch the game and camp, you’ll notice the file will be populated with many more values:
a.) Open TextEdit
b.) Copy/Paste the following into the file:
[Defaults]
WindowedModeXOffset=1
WindowedModeYOffset=1
WindowedMode=TRUE
[VideoMode]
Width=1024
Height=768
WidthWindowed=1024
HeightWindowed=768
WindowedWidth=1024
WindowedHeight=768
FullscreenBitsPerPixel=32
FullscreenRefreshRate=0
c.) Under the Format menu, choose “Make Plain Text.” Save it to your P99 folder (easy way to avoid browsing through your system: in Finder, drag one of the files in the P99 folder to TextEdit’s Save As window), and save it as eqclient.ini. Uncheck the box that says “If no extension is provided, use “.txt”.” Uncheck the “Hide extension” checkbox.
d.) Quit TextEdit. You can modify the eqclient.ini more to your liking in the future after first launch. You’ll most likely want to do this for raising the resolution to better fit your screen.
*Not Tested Today* - but I have run these on my main install without issue:
I also recommend the higher resolution textures. A forum post is here for downloading and enabling them: http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2482
If you’re coming from Al’Kabor and are an ex-EQMac player, you might like the Luclin models better. A forum post is here for enabling them; the “Lazy Load One” works fine: http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?p=573003

From what I gather, your link is accurate (at least I think). I also read this - http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/error-10810.html
I'm not really sure what the fix was, however the things I didn't do in my previous install attempts were (from your tutorial) steps #13,14 and in place, of your recommended, WS9Wine1.7.8; I had used engine WS8WineCXG10.3.0.
It may have been as simple as changing the engine to the newest version (per Mavericks requirements?). However, like I mentioned my previous post, I couldn't actually open the wrapper successfully (without getting App Error -10810) until I restarted in safe boot mode and then back to normal.

Glad to hear you were able to get it working with the Mavericks guide. I had it working on Mountain Lion and had no issues when upgrading to Mavericks, so I was sure that wasn't it.
Wine simply creates an emulated windows environment with the bare essentials that allow whatever program you install within it to run on you Mac. The error you were getting was a Windows error, so something in Wine wasn't functioning properly... a driver communication problem is most likely.
Wine can be tricky when trying to resolve issues between different systems with different hardware specs, but most problems can be resolved as there's always someone out there who has run into a similar issue :)

Doing it with the p1999 app I created in wineskin I cannot launch. I get:
"The program (unidentified) has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
So I test run the eqgame.exe file in wineskin advanced and it launches, but I am brought to the classic SoE interface and I don't know how to proceed from there. As far as I remember they have stopped service for classic EQ? So how would I subscribe?

Step 1: Show Contents of your Wineskin.

Installed EQ99 with Wineskin exactly as instructions asked, twice to be thorough and still getting same issue.. When i click on the project1999.app it pops up on my dock and nothing happens. I have to force quit the program after a minute.

Not sure if you were addressing me or the last poster, but the debug log provided from me in my latest post herein was from that very install by Innova.
For anyone who may be willing to assist me, has had this problem, or has enough experience with debugging wineskin issues, here's what's going on:
I've been playing P1999 quite often lately without issue. Indeed, the very day before the issue arose there were no problems of note. A day passed since I had played P99 last with no significant alterations to my computer, simply working throughout the day on my laptop per normal. I decided to log in for an evening in the Ocean of Tears killing Seafuries; yet, this time was different...
I ran the same P99 wineskin I had for a year (that is, a year without any such issues from it) and became stuck when trying to connect (i.e., (1) the server list screen connect button froze me, (2) the quick connect button from the same server list screen when attempting to connect froze me; and, (3) the quick connect from the username and password screen before you get to that server screen also froze me upon the same action).
So then I thought, maybe Project 1999's server is just down. I had reviewed a post regarding networking issues happening the day before for other people on the Technical Discussion forums. I assumed this may have been my issue but it was not. These people later were able to connect. Moreover, I later attempted to connect to other servers than the Project 1999 servers and was met with the same problem. This is when I realized the issue was particularly mine.
In addition to the above, I then followed Innova's steps and the later-released version of Wineskin actually would crash when attempting to connect to the server. Something is up, yes? Please see two posts above this one to review my debug information that I received when attempting to use Innova's version of the install.
My laptop's system specs are:
10.9.1 Mavericks Mac, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB MacbookPro, Mid 2012 Macbook Pro.
I am unsure how this problem "sprung up", but I have tried the following steps, started over, and tried them about ten different times each:
1) Refreshing Wrappers;
2) Updating Engines to the newest kind;
3) Going back to old Engines that previously worked;
4) Fresh installs repeating the steps listed by Innova, in addition to fresh installs using the steps that led me to prior successful installs (i.e., earlier guides in this forum);
5) Trying to force my Mac's XQuartz instead of the built in X11; and,
6) Trying different versions of Windows via Wine Tricks.
All steps seem to yield no fruit.
Again, in sum, my problem is: I now suddenly freeze when attempting to connect beyond the login screen, in whatever fashion I choose to try.
Can anyone help me resolve this? I would be very grateful and happy to donate to you some loot in the game if so.

So I'm going to briefly follow up with some steps I've taken this morning to help isolate issues, so that maybe someone has a better idea of how to assist me. Please take a few moments to review the above post before commenting on this one.
1) I am running Wineskin Engine WS9Wine1.7.12, Wrapper Version 2.5.12.
2) Still freezing only when attempting to "connect" to Project 1999.
Error 1 - "fixme:d3d:buffer_internal_preload Too many declaration changes or converting dynamic buffer, stopping converting"
I previously thought this was my big issue but it appears not to be. It only showed up after I ran the winetrick "glsl=disabled" under settings. Hence, it was easy enough to rid myself of this issue by simply not following such a step. But, see Error 2, re: when this will come back up regardless of glsl activity.
Error 2 - Imagine, if you will, a ton of the following, beginning at the debug script that reads "Unhandled usage flags 0x8", because there's a lot of it
fixme:d3d:wined3d_check_device_format_conversion wined3d 0x1695e8, adapter_idx 0, device_type WINED3D_DEVICE_TYPE_HAL, src_format WINED3DFMT_B5G6R5_UNORM, dst_format WINED3DFMT_B5G6R5_UNORM stub!

fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8.
fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8.
This type of error message has been with me from a fresh install attempting to use the Project 1999 wrapper (per very early posts on this forum) all the way through updating to the most recent versions of the engine and wrapper (per what I provided at the beginning of this post). However, when attempting to use alternate older engines that have previously worked, i.e., WS8WineCXG10.3.0, the unhandled usage flag message disappears and the "declaration changes"/"converting dynamic buffer" message reappears.
Error 3 - Perhaps the crux of my problem?
err = 1 /Applications/buildAgent/work/68ad82c58164b5d3/source/RzAudioSettings/TwinkleMac/NahimicAPO_Mac/NahimicAPO_Mac/Source/mach_override.c:243

This appears almost no matter what I do. I believe this seems to be my issue, but I am lost on solutions. Please review my previous post for more information on steps I have already tried.

Sorry for the multiple threads. Due to how frustrating this was, I wanted to share my solution for anyone who was experiencing the same issue as I was (i.e., what I listed under "Error 3" in the post immediately above).
Apparently a new update of the Razer Synapse program (for those of you who use Razer devices to game) was causing a conflict with Wineskin. Uninstalling the synapse will cause the program to work properly once again.

Hi, I was having a similar problem to Vexed (launched app, but didn't launch EQ) and did some troubleshooting. I got it to work, but I'm not sure if my problem was caused by the same thing as yours. Anyways, I found out that the problem might be caused by the Engine being used not working after an OSX update. Here's what I did:
Overall, I followed the instructions here (http://portingteam.com/frontpage/_/news/wine-news/how-to-make-your-games-run-again-after-os-updates-r22). A few points to fill in.
In step 2, after you get Wineskin Winery open, you need to choose a new engine to put in the new wrapper.
1. Click on the '+' at the bottom of the Engines list (which will probably be empty at first, mine was).
2. Navigate the drop-down list in the next window to WS9WineCX12.1.2 and click download and install.
3. Complete the rest of the instructions from the link above to move all the resource files to the new wrapper and update all of the Advanced options to those from the original P99 set up instructions.
Once everything gets updated, feel free to change the icon to the P99 one (or any other, I used the icon from my old EQMac install), double click and get it going!
Some other engines might work better, I haven't tried anything else, but this one launches. Will report back with playability concerns if I run into any.

Just want to say Thank you for this. Running P99 on my mac through this wine is so so so so much smoother and easier on my machine than the bootcamp/xp. THANK YOU!!!!! So easy to do too! Just transferred my eq files over from windows, followed the directions and boom was on in 15 mins.
Update:
Okay i may have gotten ahead of myself. My game is running very smooth but slow motion like! Not laggy, just my Toon and NPC's are S...L..O..W....!! I tried the suggested Winetricks posted earlier in the threat and they didn't do the trick. Anyone?
Update: Thought i fixed this by changing my FPS to 100 in my eqclient.ini and changing my battery power life to "better performance" in my System preferences, but it only fixed it temporarily. Still moving at a slow speed most of the time, too hard to play this way. Any ideas, anyone?

Did anyone ever figure out a solution to the mouselook issue where it stops after turning after a certain amount of looking to the side (requiring re-grabbing the screen). If you experienced this issue, you'll know what I am talking about. I typically use Parallels 9 but figured it would be nice to play via Wineskin. The mouse issue is a show stopper though..
Just did a new install with Wineskin. Cannot find any info on forums ... how to install the DuxaUI on the Mac side. ( Got used to it on the Bootcamp/XP ) side.
Thanks for any help !

Right click the install go to the folder that houses P99 and search fit the uifiles folder. Drag and drop an unzipped folder in there. Make sure to Google for the folder zip
But the DuxaUI I have downloaded is an .exe file. I cannot put it into the Program Files/Sony/Everquest/UIfiles ( currently have Default and Default-old ). Not sure what you mean by "google for the folder zip".
Also, another problem. Numlock is somehow bound to escape key. And Num8 is bound to 8. How to fix this ?

Let me help you here. Duxa UI is the one called Standalone. (http://p99.yourfirefly.com/) You downloaded the installer. I'm sure that'll work the same way you installed EQ, by using the Install Software button when you double click wineskin, but instead of messing with that, just download and open that.
As far as numlock and all that Alt + O opens the options menu in-game, in-game meaning when logged into the character and you're in the world, and if you go to the "Keys" tab and on the dropdown click around in there until you see Secondary matching your problem. You may also need to clear the Secondary on the Up Down Left and Right, as Original EQ used the Number Keys to move around, for those who wished to use their mouse less.
Thank you for the link to Standalone. Executed it, but now back to outdated files. V32 to download again !
I express myself badly. Apologies to Ishio. However, in game does not distinguish 8 ( on the number keypad ) from 8 ( on the text side of keyboard ). Simply clearing the secondaries helps me not.
In the eqclient file...is this. Are these standard ? My Apple keyboard has "clear" as a name for what is ordinarily "NumLock" . In game, is functioning as a "clear" .

I am having trouble loading Duxa's UI. I have unzipped the folder and put it into the correct folder in finder. When I try to load it, it does not work and it doesn't show it in the Alt + O menu under skins. Do I need to do something for wineskin to reread through the files?

Did a fresh install using Innova's guide. On attempting to run, get a error message that reads "The program has encountered a serious problem and needs to close". Performing the test run yields the same result. I refreshed the wrapper and tried using different engines but could not get one that would work.
I am running OSX 10.9.2 and wineskin 2.6.0. Has anybody else had the same issue recently?
***EDIT***
Disregard...I totally skipped the WindowsMode=TRUE

I followed the Mavericks guide step by step but all my character models are invisible. Everyone looks like a shadowed man. Any idea what's going on?
Edit: Nevermind, I fixed it. Apparently I had to set it to use only one core.

I set this up on a 2011 MacBook Air running Mavericks by simply following the guide in the OP. At first it wouldn't work but I found a VERY simple fix. In the Project 1999 app (use show contents to get there) you'll find the wineskin app. Just open that and choose Advanced. Then choose the Tools tab and on the right you'll see an option to update the wrapper. Just do that and it should work fine.

I've been absent for a bit and just returned. I tried my guide again (page 29, post 281) on Mavericks 10.9.4 and the only difference is I used the latest Project 1999 Files (V33) (http://www.project1999.org/files/P99Files33.zip).
It still works fine for me without any issues, however I'll look into the problems people are having to see if I can find some solutions.

I did Innova's install a few weeks ago and everything worked flawlessly.
I tried getting on today, nada. When I tried opening my P99 icon, nothing happened, wasn't in dock, nothing. I updated engine, wrapper, etc. Nada.
Just finished a complete reinstall with Wineskin 1.7.22 and it works. Not sure what prior version was a few weeks ago. Go figure!

Unfortunately I cannot get this to work at all on my Macbook Air. Opening the Project 1999 application makes my gamma change briefly but then nothing opens. The application appears in the dock. I attempted a complete reinstall 3 times now to no avail. I have the eqclient.ini file all set up, everything is installed to default directories, windowed mode is true, etc etc. Any ideas? Anyone have a similar issue and resolve it?
Edit: Nevermind! Sorry, should have read through thread. Had to update the engine and wrapper as others have noted.

Doing it with the p1999 app I created in wineskin I cannot launch. I get:
"The program (unidentified) has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I was having this problem as well, this is an X11 problem where the window cant be resized properly because it is in windowed mode.
To fix, go to wineskin.app->screen options. Set the control to 'override' and change 'Normal Windows' to 'Virtual Desktop' and that should fix it. You can experiment with different virtual desktop resolutions to see what works best.
Also, if anyone is having the problem where they try to run the app and nothing happens, use Innova's guide on page 29 to go through the full setup.

Hey guys,
If you're running Mavericks (OS X 10.9), I invite you to give this simple setup a try:
1. Download EverQuest.zip (http://www.mediafire.com/download/p5c45nvu4biq7de/EverQuest.zip)
2. Unzip it. It becomes a .app that was created by following the steps Innova posted earlier in this thread.
3. Double-click that .app, and enjoy!
After following the numerous steps in Innova's walkthrough, I realized that we're just creating a Windows sandbox that's configured to run EQ, so once the sandbox is created, there's really no need for anyone else to have to go through the same lengthy setup. It's all self-contained and ready to run on any machine!
It's a large download, but only about 100 MB larger than the installer discs and supplementary files.
Please let me know if this works / doesn't work for you guys!

Great guide, however, the wineskin linked to in the original post doesn't work in yosemite, so I made a new one that does.

This one works for me, running Yosemite on a 2010 macbook pro with a nvidia geforce gt 330M.
It occured to me that since these solutions usually have a pretty limited lifecycle maybe it would be nice to have the guide on a wiki page instead of in the forum. That way links and information would be easier to update.
What do you guys think, should we make a wiki-page out of the guide?

Without more information it's hard to say. But it doesn't sound like a wine specific issue. Maybe try to extract the files in another location and copy them to the spells folder?

ok i'll try to extract the files again and replace them in my wine folder. I don't think it's a wine issue either--I've have this error message in the past and all it took was a reinstallation of the spell files. I believe the message is "ERRORCODE SP-1." I can't see any of my characters on the login screen and there's only one guy with the name, "unknown."

Well I can't really think of anything except for the spells files. Have you compared the files in your installation folder with the files from the zip-file to make sure all the files has actually been updated?
Check the sizes and dates for the following files at least:
spells_us.txt
spellsnew.edd
spellsnew.eff
If those check out I would start a new thread with this subject if I were you.
Good luck!

Having an issue with character models and the sky box not loading. Updated the wine engine and wrapper but no fix. Maybe it's an issue with the eqclient.ini, but trying each fix in this thread has done nothing. Used Innova's eqclient.ini text, and it did nothing. Even deleting the eqclient file completely had no effect, it started up fine, but no models/sky. Not sure if i'm the only one with this issue. Here's my specs:

Trying to get everything running through wineskin . . got through everything and when i open EQ, it has a mostly - black screen with some pink at the top. EULA is in white text which is surrounded in pink. i have read about this problem before, but haven't found a solution that works for me.
I have successfully played p1999 thru bootcamp, but i dropped my mac a while ago and now windows won't boot up. I tried to copy the file from my windows drive to mac drive, and it won't let me . . error code 36 or something.
Maybe someone could send me their wineskin with proper folders/files already inside of it? idk if that works. i know something is off, i can't find it though ..
i'll pl you if u get it working :)

Hi All,
I am having the following "problem", which seems to me is my inability to see something simple: I can run EQ excellently given that it's the first run following the steps provided on the first page. However, after quitting the program (Project 1999 via the Applications Menu), it will bounce in my dock when I try to start it again until the application no longer responds (and requires a "force quit").
Things I've Tried
(1) Killing All Wine Processes
(2) Restarting the Computer
Again, everything is working great. Indeed, I can even make things work again if I unzip the Project 1999 wineskine and copy/paste the EverQuest folder back with my current settings into the freshly unzipped skin. I merely wish I could run the program a second and third time without repeating all the initial steps.
Thanks in advance for any help.
I am having this same issue. Does anyone know how to resolve this problem?

Great tutorial. Follow these steps and was up in running in no time. Had issues originally with it not running at all due to out of date wineskin but this fixed all my issues!
Hardware Overview:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,2
Processor Name: Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
I did the same setup, but can't for the life of me figure out the fonts part.
I've installed core fonts through wine tricks, but where do they end up? Tried copying the fonts from user/library/fonts. The results are the same. I get to log in to the game, and tho the graphics seems fine all text is grainy and hard to read.
Anyone have any tips for the fonts part?
Thanks!

Okay, my crashing is fixed. I needed to download the older version of Winery referenced in the setup tutorial on Youtube (already mentioned on this thread).
As to fonts, when I set my window to 800 x 600 (so I could access the options menu to reset my movement keys), the text was incredibly hard to read. Reset it to standard monitor resolution and it was decipherable again. Installing core fonts worked with the older winery engine, but not with the newer version. Maybe check what version of winery you have?

Worked great for me. I followed the directions on page 29 and created a new wrapper, rather than downloading the first wrapper. MacBook Air running 10.8.5. Okay, I've been reading and I'm seeing a lot of solutions for Mavericks, but I'm running 10.7.5 (too lazy to look up which animal this is)
I've downloaded the original wrapper from the initial post. That one launches the app into my dock and then nothing. I followed those instructions to the letter.
I copied files from PC with v36 files.
Troubleshooting: I read that Wine is broken on 10.7.5 and downloaded the file referenced here: http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/tiki-view_blog_post.php?postId=62
It opened and did nothing.
Has anyone found a working combination for 10.7.5?

I have been playing on my old windows laptop with no problems game-wise. Unfortunately, the computer itself is starting to give me trouble, and I am considering trying to play on my new Macbook Pro.
For you people copying the files over, rather than installing from scratch, are you just copying over the "EQ" folder you installed to and that's it? or is there another batch of files somewhere you also needed?

I was able to login, but it did manage to screw up my water files.

Any updates to this?
The updates work fine
The problem however .. as our friends in the Wincrap world do not know about the significance of Capitals in File-names.
When the directory name CAPS has changed you will have problems, (files will be lost /
deleted).
Solution = Do not copy on top of directory's. Copy the entire contents of each directory to the recipient directory. You will not have problems if you do that.
A further note::
As I do not have Wincrap and only use a MacinTrash.
I have 2 versions of the client.
The first version is the no gamma problem version, (you can make this full screen or windowed).
The 2nd version is the full everything version, (you can make this full screen or windowed).
If anybody wants a copy of one I can put the wrappers up to somebody's download site for the masses, (no game will be in the folder).

Hey all. I have been playing P99 for about 3 or 4 weeks now, without issue on my Mac. I was playing today and tabbing into other apps like Mail and Chrome during downtime. I tabbed into chrome and suddenly the p1999 wineskin app closed without any error message. I tried to relaunch and the icon just bounces once on my desktop.
I patched the latest version several days before without issue. I tried to go into the advanced options and test run, update the wineskin and also change the engine to a newer one. No success.
Any ideas? Icon is still just bouncing once on my dock and will not launch.

Having the same problem as Xenmir.
EQ crashed on logout, and I clicked re-open. Nothing happened, and now when I try to run the wineskin from the applications folder, nothing happens.
I'm guessing it's going to be a Wineskin rebuild. I hope I can just copy my eq folder out of this one and back into the new build. When I click to view logs on test run or last run, nothing comes up =(
Anyone know a better solution than rebuilding the wineskin?

I installed a new wrapper with Winery (http://sourceforge.net/projects/wineskin/files/Wineskin%20Winery.app%20Version%201.7.zip/download), then I made sure to download the latest engine (2.6.1). I tried fiddling with a bunch of other settings before people started saying disabling rootless would fix the issue. I read up on the forums then and found the guy who wrote Wineskin was working on a patch to fix the problem so I figured I would just wait since I mainly play on my PC anyway.
Before I decided to wait however, I did a bunch of things to try to solve the issue. I tried many different versions of the engine. and messed around with some settings. I just went ahead and restored the settings back to what they should be to test it for you and everything works fine either way. Make sure that you're using engine version. WS9Wine1.7.51.
Also (I know it sounds dumb) but make sure you actually updated the wrapper itself and not just wineskin. Some in the wineskin support forum were confused by this step of the process.
Hope that helps.

Thanks! I ended up following the YouTube video as well, reinstalled everything instead of copypasta from Parallels, and everything worked out just fine. AND I AM ELATED. YouTube video in question for those who just got here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xfNbEUVweM
Couple of minor details I noticed that may help others:
HEY! THIS WORKED ON MAVERICK! :D The YouTube video I watched said otherwise.
When you're replacing the P99 files, you have to be very careful to replace the CONTENTS of the folders, not the entire folders themselves. I blew it and replaced my 'default' uifiles folder completely and I was getting the same thing where nothing happened. Had to totally reinstall. Fuuu.
I also blew it with the spell files, which I don't believe was mentioned in the video since it references an older version of the P99 files thatn the current. Also necessary to replace the contents and not the folder itself.
If your mouse gets stuck when you open the game, alt tab/switch windows and click back onto the window and it should be fine.
A huge thank you to everyone who put this together. I mean really guys. Playing on Parallels/Bootcamp is such a pain in my ass so needless to say I am very very very pleased. This was a great way to come back after 3 years.

Im trying to update my EQ Mac version of P1999 from about 1 year ago? I installed only one spell file update after downloading the version posted here tied with wine. It was a while before Velious that i last played and it could be the Velious update that is making my game not work now...
I have been trying to log in and it says that i have to install new spell files. I did this and it did not seem to work and it won't even load the game now. What do i have to do to make it work again?

I followed the instructions in the Video (Link in the very first post on this thread) and replaced the Patch 30 files with the latest Patch 40?
I think the issue with mouse look is still a problem, however if you use one of the 3rd person views, the problem becomes obsolete.

You need to update your files. Download the patch from the P1999 site. Be certain to open the folders and drag the contents. Do not simply drag folders as you need to add to the contents not replace them.

Is there any way to up the brightness? It's almost unplayably dark at night. The in-game gamma slider doesn't do anything and maxing my laptop's brightness isn't enough.

Also, a while back, the game suddenly reset all my settings. UI, key binds, etc. I checked my ini configuration files and nothing actually changed. They're all the same as they were before, but the game just refuses to recognize them. It no longer automatically logs text and I'm locked into the new elemental models (among other problems), even though my logs setting is TRUE and luclin elementals is FALSE.

So for those of you that upgraded to macOS High Sierra, here's what I did to get Project 1999 running on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch Early 2013).
First, obtain a Windows 7 x64 bit Professional full installation standalone .ISO, (you'll need a Windows license) NOT an OEM manufacturer Windows .ISO.
Follow this KB article VERBATIM:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201468
Upon completion of the above article, run windows update otherwise your graphics card won't be detected by EQ.
I copied an existing installation folder of p1999 off my backup drive to the MacBook and then downloaded the latest Project 1999 files patch. *(Project 1999 Files (V45) <-- at time of this post

Hello,
Hoping for some help here. I seem to be right at the end of the setup guide, but when I launch eqgame.exe I get the message "Please run EverQuest.exe"
I verified that the EXE flags says "patchme," and I didn't change anything from the default wine settings. I also made sure that my game folder was changed to P99 - it's a copy/paste job from the folder that is confirmed to work on my Windows machine.
I'm really not sure what needs to be changed here but I'd appreciate any help! This is on a MacBook Air 12" if that is important.
Thank you in advance for your help!

If you're using an older version of OSX, watch the Youtube guide video in the original post (AGAIN) but this time try a complete fresh install of EQ as they did. I can only say those steps worked for me back in 2013; which is the last time I ever got the wine wrapper method working on a Mac.
Good luck!

Okay so clearly it's been a few years, but my wineskin is stuck on "Wineskin is currently busy, please wait..." Any ideas on how to fix that?

Anyone ever figure out the mouselook excitement? I noticed a lot of people saying it stops at 180 degrees or something when they turn. I don't think it's that exactly. I tried playing on a MBPR with 4 screens connected. I have the eq window in the second to left screen and I've noticed if I look right I can spin further than if I look left. It basically seems like mouselook works to the point where the cursor would normally hit the bounds of your displays. I have tried the option to use XQuartz instead of X11 but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

The wineskin Install provided earlier works fine except I get the following game freeze and subsequant crashes:
Character creation on an Iksar Male
Upon reaching the second floor of Erudin Palace
Inside Blackburrow
That's it so far I haven't had other crashes but then again there are millions other locations I haven't visited since the install.

Hello Everyone! Just found out about Project1999 and it looks amazing. I'm a former Al'Kabor player.
Installing and setting up everything on High Sierra looks a little daunting.
I currently have:
Newest version of Wineskin Winery
P99Files45
EQTitanium .iso files
Project 1999.zip
Now which guide do I follow to set everything up?
There is this video from 2013
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xfNbEUVweM&feature=youtu.be
And this recent video about running it on High Sierra
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDjWNWM3Y7w
Should I follow the instructions in the first video, then follow the second video? I'm an idiot with computers and want to make this as easy as possible.

Hey there, I successfully downloaded and play P99 on my 2015 MBPR thanks to Vile and his one stop shop to success, but I ran into an issue where when i unzip a custom UI (QQUI, Duxa, etc.) and place it alongside my default UI folder, it doesn't load when i type the command in game.
I was wondering if any of you have had success with adding custom UI to Vile's version of P99, and if so how were you able to get it working?

So, in order to use Vile's download, do we still need to first download the Project 1999 Wine Wrapper, extract to the Applications directory, and then use that to run Vile's files? and this would then be ready to play without applying the P99 required game file changes or deleting the .eqg files? I've not installed P99 before and am putting it on High Sierra.

re: vile's file link in lulz post.
willingly allowed rando file from rando forumquester to access my home network. #relapse
it works btw.. the fonts aren't what i'm used to from the ol wineskin process, and the video quality seems a bit fuzzier, but it works dadgum.

On my mid-2010 MacBook Pro the game started up easily but crashed once when trying to login. The next time I tried, everything worked well!
Thanks for your work, Vile and anyone else involved.

I just upgraded to Mojave and my existing p99 wrapper/install worked perfectly without modification.
macOS Mojave 10.14 (18A391)
Wineskin 2.6.2
Winewrapper unmodified from above

Perhaps. FYI, it took a lot longer for the game to launch on my end, but it did eventually launch.
Which version of wineskin are you using?

It worked well for High Sierra, and saw many post of it working for Mojave.

Hey guys. My girlfriend's been trying to get P99 installed for 2 weeks and she's ready to give up.
She downloaded EQEMU from the link she posted above as well as patch files and overwrote. I know she did that part right because it worked on my windows comp.
Next since the youtube she was following for wineskin was outdated she followed this post:
https://www.project1999.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=56238
She did everything in the directions including updating the 6 parameters she posted above
[VideoMode]
WindowedWidth=1920
WindowedHeight=1080
Width=1920
Height=1080
WidthFullscreen=1920
HeightFullscreen=1080
to 1280x800
Now when she goes to open the wrapper "Project 1999" it moves down to bottom of screen like macs do, does a little baby bounce thing and nothing happens lol. If she tries to open it again, the icon bounces again a little and nothing happens. She tries to open activity monitor and it doesn't even show project 1999, so we are thinking it's crashing before it opens. The guy helping her on FB said to check that because that'll help to know if it's open just not visible due to window ini settings. Any ideas guys ?

I notice it hasn't been updated in many years. Are we using the right wrapper file or is there a new one buried inthese 49 pages of this thread?

Hey guys I just installed P1999 on my mac thanks to this guide. I've just created my character but for some reason I cannot type some special keys like "/" which is very annoying.
Any one bumped into this issue and got it resolved by any chance ?
Can't find anything out there on the internet !
Thanks

Hello guys,
I just managed to install P99 on my 2013 macbook thanks to this super thread.
I have just logged ingame but for some reason my keyboard is not working properly, ie for example i cannot type "/" which is very annoying. I'm using the built in AZERTY keyboard from my macbook, anyone would have a clue about what's happening please ?
Cheers,
Bache

Just ignore my last messages, I found the solution.
For anyone who will eventually encounter this issue, it's actually quite simple : just shift the keyboard of your macbook from AZERTY to QWERTY and you're all set !

Confirmed working flawlessly on OSX 10.13.6 High Sierra on a 2009 24" iMac 2.66 Core 2 Duo with 8gb ram and Nvidia Geforce 9400 w 256mb ram. Downloading the linked app did not work for me, even after removing the GPU check and settings. I ended up just installing the latest version of Wineskin and creating it myself.

I am attempting to get this working on a 2018 Macbook Pro with Mojave 10.14.2 and have followed the steps in this (https://www.project1999.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1265123&postcount=281) post.
The game client starts and throws a warning about ATI drivers. I continue anyway. I am able to login and see the list of servers. I select the P99 PVE server and click on Play Everquest. It has a think, the window momentarily gets bigger and then drops back to the login screen where I need to reenter my password.
Anyone got any tips on what the problem might be?

Hey guys, where do you get the P99 update files as mentioned in the video?
Also, I'm a little confused by this step: 5. Copy your EQEmu installation into the "drive_c" shortcut folder. I didn't put it inside of "Program Files" just to keep the path short and sweet.
(If you are not copying/pasting, skip to Step 7 to see notes on installing from CD)
Where do I get the EQEmu installation?
Sorry if they're dumb questions but just tryna get back into EQ if possible and won't have access to my windows comp for a month or two.

Im here hoping Vile can add a new download with new files :D
"Your spell file is outdated" comes up now on the Character Select screen during login. First, are the V45 files the most current that you can get in the Getting Started thread? Second, once downloaded where do they go and do you also need to delete anything else?
I've downloaded the zip for V45. Once unzipped is it as simple as copying the folder of new files into the "C" drive or do you do it differently?
Thanks
