Hello.

My friend would like to play but he asked me if this would work on his mac laptop.

Would it? How would we instal it to a mac? Is there a step by step I missed? Can we just follow the normal setup guide?

Thanks.

i play on a MacbookPo i did a windows partition with the bootcamp program (should be on his mac, or easily to download for free i think)

The program leads you to do a partition its veryy easy, hope he has the instalattion CD still cuz all the drivers are on it.

He would probably have to download the Titanium torrent

I play Titanium EQ on a LINUX box with WINE, so a Mac should be able to? Minor code change to get models working but thats easy to find on the net...

Edit: Found this -> http://davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/

I'm trying to get WINE set up and EQ installed with it. Can you describe what this "minor" code change is regarding models? Or point me to a link?

I get to running the installation for EQ through WINE and it keeps giving me the error "You cannot install to the Windows directory. Please select another location." even though I am specifying other directories. :(

I use crossover games to run EQ while in MacOSX. The only strange problem I've run into is when it starts to rain in a zone it will make my client crash and I wont be able to log that character back in until the raining stops.

Now I've mostly been playing on a 50GB bootcamp partition under Win7.

So what I did was copy over the Everquest directory from my PC onto my mactop. I then ran the wine command from terminal "wine eqgame.exe patchme", and it worked like a charm.

Let me know if you have any issues w/ crashing - esp if it starts raining in the zone. I may have to switch from crossover to straight up wine.

I just set this up yesterday and am having that same weather problem.

Whenever it rains it's an instant crash (mac+wine). Everything seems to work great otherwise.

The patch (from the Everquest entry in WineHQ.com) is:

If you are running an older version of EQ with a non-official server that does not use the exact dll above, then you will have to use this method.

Add this line:
pCaps->MaxVertexBlendMatrices=0x4;
In file:
(your wine source directory)/dlls/d3d9/directx.c
At function:
IDirect3DDevice9Impl_GetDeviceCaps(LPDIRECT3DDEVIC E9 iface, D3DCAPS9* pCaps)
Before returning (return hrc;), line 176 (as of 0.9.55)
Build wine as usual and happy Everquesting

Parallels 5 w/ Windows XP and it will work perfectly, if make the computer a little hot and bothered :D It won't crash when it rains at least. Or just use BootCamp.

fdisk & install windows. Then tell him to buy a real computer.....

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and Wine 1.2-1.1.4 and my directx.c file looks different from what you described. I posted it here http://pastebin.ca/1879145. I tried pasting what you suggested before line 176 and it didn't appear to effect anything, gave me some error message about pcaps not having a pre existing value when I compiled it. And this function you supplied "IDirect3DDevice9Impl_GetDeviceCaps(LPDIRECT3DDEVIC E9 iface, D3DCAPS9* pCaps)" wasn't in the file anywhere. Any suggestions? I'm assuming that the file is very different from the version you were using 3 months ago.

Dunno, should be pretty darn close to the same. I'll check when I get home - did you just want me to tarball the version I use to you? I can stick one up on my website for download?

Is there any way to run it on a macbook without installing windows on a second partition? This laptop is on loan and I'd rather not screw around with my friend's computer to that extent.

You can use Parallels, or try configuring Wine to work. Both of which may be more than your abilities and what you're willing to do to a friends computer however.

Generally as long as it doesn't jeopardize the function of the computer, I'm fine. I'm not sure what parallels and wine are, though I'm not incapable of learning.

Blugh! I need a windows install disc for either option, don't I?
