FRESH BLOOD. I've read the forum for 3 god awful hours. After reading the shit show you guys all put on display here, I've sifted through the mostly mindless bullshit of non-pertinent information that probably discourages other people from joining in an attempt to try get a real feel for the current state of the game. Alas, I'm like any prior nostalgic EQ player longing to tear people limb from limb once again, and I'm hardly able to keep the overwhelming interest at bay, but I have to ask...does this shit show carry over into the game?

Most of my gamer friends are either currently poopsocking the latest games (SWTOR) or not poopsocking altogether (me), but I know for a fact none of them are willing to travel back in time to poopsock this grind. Are newcomers generally accepted among the community here or is it just cliques? Is it a general consensus that a solo dude like myself will level to 20 without so much as an invitation or welcoming to a community or guild? And before any hardcore basement dwelling manchild decides to rain down on my pussiness as an inferior being not worthy of true EQ pvp, let me just state that I can play another non-communicative, competitive game for self-assurance in my masculinity. I'm looking for a bit of community here with some fun PvP. Is this what I can expect here?

New comers always welcome. Just dont pull some bull shit stunt where your like "Back in 1999 I was so and so, king top shit and demand your respect." Your live rep holds no water here and will get you trolled into the dirt if thats the only leg you stand on.

Server is fine, if you read forums and it deters you from playing. Then i strongly doubt you will have the drive to go through the grind and random pk's again anyways. Forum warriors and in game warriors is LOL, this game is for the love of everquest! the staff here are bosses for bringing this game back at a classic status.

In game is nothing like forums. People just play and have fun and maybe bring their bullshit to guild chat, but not the general populous.

In the few weeks I've been here, I've had some good groups or conversations with people from every guild. I will say, I hope you guys bring a good groups worth of people, because grouping at low levels is hard to find. Otherwise, you can join the ranks of all the rest of the shamans and druids on the server (which make up about 50+% of the classes played based on my experience) and solo your way up.

Also, if any of you guys need any help or a portal to get you in the same area, send Destin a tell. I'm online most of the day, even if semi afk in town while i work.

I would warn you this, if this is your first PVP experience, as it was mine, don't think for a second people are content to engage you, win, and leave. On this server victory to many people means that you have been forced to plug and log off for multiple hours, and, they hope, that you will ultimately quit.

For the most part the community really sucks. There are some genuine nice people, but don't be shocked the first time someone tells you to come for SOW and you get ganked and corpse camped for hours by someone you've never met before. Loot and scoot? Non-existent. If you die in a dungeon you may as well log for the day, you're not getting your corpse.

In short, while you won't see the type of trash talking in game you see on the forums, the actions of people are very similar to what you see on the forums. The only silver lining is that when one of the top guilds declares "victory," and they finally leave, the server will slowly become repopulated as the timeline progresses with more relaxed people who still PVP with a vengeance but not as if the goal of every PVP encounter is to make someone quit this game.

There is some small amount of truth to what heartbrand is saying - there are some people (usually forum warriors) whose goal is to make people quit the game.

but i think most people have a lot of fun :) I really want to start a character but i can't play. I gave up playing to be a senior guide. :)

Welcome :) We are glad to have you here :)

Others like tombom talk a big game on the forums but are actually really cool people in game :) people on this server just need to chillax a bit and stop acting like every pvp battle is part of world war 2 and the free world depends on victory. It's a twelve year old game lets have fun and treat each other with some minimal level of respect.

Don't be discouraged. In the low and mid level game there are still people to group with and who are decent people. Alot of the forum drama and forum warriors are at 50 and bored but it doesn't really have an impact on the rest of the server.

Check out Spear of the Nation for mature conversation.

Not really completely accurate. Given Heartbrand had a pretty bad experience - but a handful of douchebags in one guild, who don't represent the server in any fashion, and will most likely burn out and quit in the next month or two - should not discourage anyone from playing.

expect to make a mage druid or necro cause youll be solo

expect to grind endlessly for small exp

expect to level naked

expect to quit

Also, fair pvp is not something that ever happens on this server. Don't expect anyone to ever engage you if they are equal to your level or by themselves. My experience would be something like, see 2 red con PCs around me, they don't attack me. I engage 2 DB gnolls, once im at 40% hp then the 2 red cons decide to engage me. These people will poopsock like crazy (see cast, 12 hours a day for a month), just to get whatever level advantage they can, then go to a lowbie zone and gank people engaged in combat.

It only takes a small percentage of the total players being mouth breathers to make this experience common place. and you are wrong about them being from only one guild. I've experienced extreme retardation and hostility every step of the way. Without a clique to be a part of you will have this experience as well.

This community is eating itself away. The anonymity of the internet has had a poor effect around here.

To the OP:

The server is essentially good. There are griefers on the server, but it's not to the point where you're just being griefed 24/7. The biggest thing about coming back to EverQuest (and especially EQ PVP) is to realize you're going to die, most of those pvp deaths are going to actually be PVE deaths due to ganking, zero fights are going to be "fair" by today's standard, and it's just part of the game.

But if you find some cool people to group/guild with (absolutely essential, without this the play experience is awful and frustrating), the server experience skyrockets. I have a lot of fun playing.

If you cant hack the exp grind and getting corpse camped all i got to say is smell you later. If you are a casual gamer that plays maybe 10-20hours a week and thats if your lucky and want to be on par with guys playing over 40hours thats insane. If your playing 40 hours a week your 50 with close to everything you need and are complaining you have noone to pvp with. What did you expect? May i suggest NWO wolf-pack and betray your friends to have more pvp?

Defination of fair pvp in my eyes. You log onto RED1999 after that anything is fair dude. dont cry about anything that happens please dont send GM tells or petition unless you want to snitch out someone clearly exploiting and even then do you want to be snitchy mcitchy? A whole lot of limp wristing , chardonnay sipping going on today.

Like I was saying, if you join the server just realize that most of your pvp deaths aren't going to be 2% pvp deaths, but 10% pve deaths when you get OUT PVPED by someone rooting you as you try to zone a mob.

I wrote up this whole thing about each of the guilds but then I decided nothing good come from it. Suffice it to say, I don't really have anything bitter to say about any guild on this server, there are tons of cool people in all of the big guilds on this server, including some of the so-called forum warriors here, even you cast ;)

If you asked me what guild will be on top of this server four-five months from now I would tell you either Uprising or a guild that doesn't exist yet. Holocaust can't survive in its current form there's too much friction between parts of the membership and just not enough of the core who are truly devoted this box, as well as a leadership vacuum, and I can understand why that would be based upon the server pop. Nihilum is good at the PVE but I have to question if some of their core will keep on playing after they got all of their pixels, with some of the /playeds on those people burnout is inevitable, and is there a high enough pop to replace those who burnout with new blood?

My biggest worry is the shit fest fear is going to be and its effect on PVP on this server going forward. The biggest "pvp" tactic for raid mobs so far has not been actual PVP but just training the other guilds raid with mobs, which I guess supposedly is not allowed on this server, neither is speeding. The epic train fests in fear I'm sure will be fun to watch, but if I was a caster, I sure wouldn't be bringing anything other than my malachite or bone chips when I went there.

tl;dr: prolly four-five months from now neither holocaust nor nihilum will exist/matter
