Okay everything is all allowed, I have given it permission on my firewall and disabled my antivirus (because it doesn't want to cooperate even with exclusions). I changed the 16bits in eqclient to 32 bit and started normally, now I'm getting this error - I haven't had the loading screen actually looked like it started to load until now, however.

and yes, I have fix eqclient.ini checked on the launch pad

No, thats right hrm. You eqmac folder needs to be in C:\ not c\program files.

EQmac went free 2 play (f2p) a bit ago, it's an official sony server, up through planes of power. Seems like a very mature respectful bunch and I am finally getting it to work despite my limited computer knowledge.

https://lp.soe.com/eqmac/live/ is the new patcher link, don't use the one in the guide.

In the guide it says right click eqw.exe and select run as administrator. Some may have issues here, it is because you need to just make a shortcut to eqw.exe, place it on desktop, and then right click it and then select 'run as administrator'.

This client of EQ only runs on 2 gigs or less of ram, you can make it able to use more, gave me much better fps and here is how.

after it is downloaded back up your eqw.exe and eqgame.exe, right click your eqw.exe
click on "open with cff explorer"
click on "file header" under Nt Headers in the left section
click on "Click Here" on the right in the "Characteristics" line highlighted in blue.
Check mark "App can handle >2gb address space"
press ok
try to exit cff explorer and it should prompt you to save, say yes and overwrite existing
after that, do the same thing to eqgame.exe

I think I solved two problems in one.


I originally wanted to just increase my mouse sensitivity but it also fixed that slow look speed at the same time.

no need for a fps limiter or anything.


if you open up your eqclient.ini and search for the line

MousePointerSpeedMod=0

change it to 2

only options appear to be 0, 2, or higher.. but 2 is more than enough.. setting it to 1 does nothing.

You can box there legally, although it is trickier for me then others it seems, and it isn't as smooth as p99 or eqpc (Eq on PC) clients on live servers but the community seems awesome. Haven't woken the sleeper even though they can, any questions lemme know.

Some differences, like moving forward won't take you out of sitting, you cant use your mousewheel to zoom in and out of first to third person view, you have to sit before camping(I mean actually sit, /camp doesn't sit you automatically). There are various other bugs/differences, no spell timers yet is one.

As far as opening multiple instance, you can create another directory and alter your shortcuts, or just use the same eqw. The trick is to start one, click start eq, and when it gets to to the login screen, or server select screen (BEFORE you hit play everquest), you open the next instance you want. So eqw, then start eq, accept, now connect, password, stop at server select and double click eqw again. There is an alt tab bug, where you will at tab and alt seems depressed already. Just hit alt and then play as normal if you get the bug. Each time you alt tab back you may have to hit alt, but you get used to it.

This is my eqclient.ini at least the first section, you can see here what to change. When you first log in, the options screen comes up where you select display options, and what models you use, blahblah. I had an issue it only let me select 3 models, saying I did not have enough memory. Just select whatever, see if you create a new character. When you do, come back out and edit your eqclient.ini.

I had to manually change my resolution here, can't do it in game. It's near the bottom of this section of your ini. I didn't like the combat theme playing so I turned combatmusic=false. Problem was then I had no sound except city zone music. It had turned the first line sound=false so make sure that is true.

Newui=true for the luclin ui, turn this on, and download the poweroftwo ui, it rocks.

Here is where you enable all the models, etc etc not in options before you log in. Despite what they say you can run it with 32 bits. You can try 16 if you have issues, I have none.


In this thread someone posted about how to set your FPS lower to solve the mouselook issues, if you don't you experience the mouselook horizontally is slower then vertical, it is ugh getting used to. Let me try and find that post. Kevlar posted this, the forum isn't allowing me to highlight, bold, quote or anything so...

I also have a problem where if I am on my monk and I log off, if I try logging back in on him it crashes me to desktop after I select enter world. My work around is simply log in a different character, log out and then log in my monk again. No one has told me how to fix it, it works for me mostly.

I also edited a few things here like attack on assist, just personal preferences it's mostly self explanatory but eh.

Okay, after copying the parts of your eqclient.ini over to mine, I'm back to my initial problem. No more crashing but the black screen saying not responding.

I'll try a fresh install tomorrow following the instructions. Hopefully that will fix things.

K, try it without editing your ini the first time you log in. And set the exceptions in your firewall, then close it and try running eqmac. My ini was an example, just to show you things, my settings may not work for you so many sure you try just yours first. You need to let it go through the options etc first I think.

I had problems with UI's until someone advised me to add a 1

IE

or

/loadskin VertMod 1

No idea why but it worked when i added the _1

No. Live's Test server auto flags for gold and EQMac requires no membership levels. Both of them can be played without restrictions for free.

Its just free to play .. no tiers or gimmicks.. no item shop.. just the game.

Nah, there is a few. They have a couple developers dedicated to it. They just leave it unaltered. Live is Modern, Mac is Classic. I'm pretty sure they're willing to keep it that way too. One major reason being, I'm sure they could prevent the EQMac on PC 'patch' if they wanted. They don't, and don't even bother.

Okay, so I did a fresh install, it's in c:\EQMac, exceptions are set in the firewall (I have tried it with the firewall off as well) and anti virus and running eqw as admin.

I tried loading first with my eqclient from install and after the server select I got the splash screen, heard the music and then got the same error message.

I went through your post with the eqclient changes and adjusted mine. Now I'm back to getting just a black screen after trying to load the server. As soon as I go to another window, it goes to not responding. If I just sit there at that window, nothing happens.

It's almost like something I changed in there fixed the error, but something else is preventing it from loading to char select/creation.

I'm really at a loss here =/

Okay I adjusted my video mode further and am now back to the crashing error as shown.

What else may be doing that? Firewall and antivirus are off for the moment, running eqw as admin and fix eqclient checked.

It could be many things.. I'd suggest turning off all your malware / antivirus programs / Online chat programs like AIM temporarily (and don't browse any websites or download anything) then try to get onto eqmac and see if you have a problem.


you could try turning off your page file in virtual memory (maybe some sort of latency problem?)


or just popping out a memory stick if you have more than one and seeing if its an issue between the memory sticks themselves.. (sometimes using 2 different types causes problems)


It's most likely some program you have running is conflicting with the eqw

I'm currently running win 7 on an intel core 2 duo 3ghz, 2g ram, nvidia geforce 8800gt 512mb video card.

I'm going to try shutting everything off, checking the process tree and launching again. I'm 99% sure all my ram is the same brand/size etc but I will double check that if all else fails.

Okay so I shut down chat, browser, zone alarm, disabled avast and killed everything in the process tree I could think of. That got me a new, different error!

Included a pic of the error and a pic of my process tree after shutting everything down.

The one I highlighted showed up after trying to launch and run EQMac. Some of them would not stay shut off no matter how many times I closed them (apple, zone alarm browser security) and avast would not allow itself to be killed, just disabled.

I really appreciate all the help, you guys are awesome. I would be so lost without the assistance!

really not sure what your problem is.

you can try updating your video card drivers.. make sure your windows update is all up to date.

could be a bad install (you did say your tried reinstalling?)

do you ever get a similar message when you are running other programs or applications.. if you do it might be a bad memory stick.

it could just be something specific to your graphics card also.. I know on some computers I've owned in the past.. certain games wouldn't work right on the computer after updating to the latest drivers and only worked with an older version of the drivers (typcially on older games like eq)

Run secrets patch again, or search your directory to make sure wsock.dll didn't get deleted. Open eqclient.ini and make sure the resolution under [vidoe mode] matches your monitor resolution.

Try checking fixeqclient if it still doesn't work.

Worked for me first try. I didn't do anything crazy. Had to get a program to limit the FPS so the mouse scroll was decent. Doesn't run quite as well as P99/PEQ did (for some reason spells just slow my laptop to a crawl).

Found one but in Cabalis..the Scaled Wolf Pup was a human texture with arms and legs spread. Was also a very small graphic.

Other than that, game runs well! I wish they had the population that P99 had when it was at its max (1000+ people). Hopefully this will spread and more people will hop on?

You don't need to crack it, the freeware version is just fine for limiting FPS. Just click the advanced tab, check limit video fps box, and put a value in. 60 works fine for me. Once you set it up just minimize it, doesn't seem to use much in the way of resources at all.


I run avast antivirus and all I do is right-click the avast icon and disable all shields until reboot. When I'm done playing EQ I just reboot my computer and then everything is back to normal.

I got that message the first time I tried eqmac because I didn't put the eqmac folder directly into the C:\ directory

It should be C:\EQMac no other folders inbetween that and the harddrive.

Did you click that Fix eqclient.ini box on the eqw.exe before starting the game?


and I tried out that Dxtory that people were talking about and it is pretty awesome like others have been saying.. you can even change your FPS on the fly if you want too.. for if you have multiple windows open for boxing. Its like Fraps but much better because you can record as well as adjust other video features on the fly while not recording.

I disabled the shields but it stayed in the process tree. When I tried to kill it, it said I couldn't.

I was able to kill zonealarm browser service but it started itself back up again within seconds.

I used a eqmac2 rar that a friend who plays on the server from IB sent me. It has secrets patch in the file and i extracted it to my c drive and then went to eqw and browsed to my eqgame folder shows the alkabor server but just before toon select it kicks back. I did this all in admin

It's hard to tell the actual population at any given time because they don't release that information.

but the server "general" chat channel usually has between 150 and 200 people on it.

I doubt everybody is in that channel all the time though because it can be annoying at times.

i was losing my sock.exe until I made my antivirus stop scanning that folder.
I use avast as well and instead of the disable until next boot up, i went to the protector shields and clicked into settings i think it was and added c/eqmac as an ignore file. haven't had any issue.

Zoom works, its clunky, you have to use insert/delete. Once you set it then its fine. You can change the angle by holding in the mouse button once you get the distance set.

Thats cool. I am used to just turning off my virus protection when playing video games though. Old habit. Virus programs have always interfered with games pretty much as long as there have been virus scanners. Games run smoother without the scans running in the background hogging resources.

I've been spending a lot of time here recently. It's nothing against P99 or their endeavors... It's simply that I have a shitty laptop (128mb ram etc. etc.) and I experience much less lag and shorter load times on PCMac than I do here. Okay I finally got around to trying that sound fix - it's not crashing anymore at all, no error messages etc.

Except I pick the server and it just sits at a black screen. I can't win, haha.

You are basically over-writing all the files with the mac intel client anyway. You most likely do not need the titanium client. I'm not sure though there may be a few pc files not contained in "secrets patch" that are required to run.

I like how this server has a lot of things working right that just don't seem to work all that well here. Iksar regen seems to work better (better meaning well meaning I don't notice it much in P99 but notice it a lot on EQMac) and the pathing/mob behavior is 10 fold better.

EQMac won't be around forever though. I really hope that it is used as a tool to get a better-working classic emulated server because something like P99 can be sustained for a long time given a big enough community.

I forget how much I miss PoP raids and even a lot of Velious content (my fave expansion and my 2nd favorite for raids specifically behind PoP). I wish I had some skills to help here at P99. Would be awesome to have a truly classic experience with correct pathing and such. P99 is close but still a bit away. Try EQMac and you'll notice the difference in feel.

You need to execute eqw.exe. You also need to have all relevant files created in c:\eqmac. There are some files that are hard coded to look for that directory, at least one I found eqw.cfg.

Here is what I did.

1. completely disable virus check
2. fresh install of titanium
3. copy titanium files to c:\eqmac
4. copy the resources folder from the eqmac SOE site directly on top of c:\eqmac using copy/replace
5. unzip secrets patch directly into c:\eqmac
6. open eqconfig.ini change newui=TRUE. Default is set to false and causes problems
7. start up dxtory and limit video fps to 60
8. launch eqw.exe, right-click run as administrator
9. check the popup box to fixeqclient.ini - you might get an error the first time
10. connect, log in with a valid station account, select the first al'kabor server, profit

If you get to the server select and get disconnected on loading in check to make sure wsock.dll is still in your eqmac folder. Mine is constantly getting removed.

I get precisely the bolded error (I get to server select, where I interestingly see two AK servers) and wsock32.dll is in my c:\EQMac folder...And I'm actually running on XP, firewall was off, I strongly doubt antivirus had anything to do with it but I can turn that off...

I was also thinking since my graphics stuff is absolutely horrible, I could alter my eqclient.ini and minimize my graphics.

And now that i'm thinking about this at work, maybe I should try the "other" AK listed at server select. Duh.

Any other ideas in case that doesn't work?

Anyone else having problems with graphical anomalies, particularly when meleeing in 1st person view? Whenever I swing, there's all this graphical garbage and I'm not even able to clearly see my weapon. I remember having an issue like that (with an older computer) back when I played on the SoD server, but I could never get it fixed. Is there a fix for it on the Mac server?

I've also been dealing with the terrible mouse speed problem, and I was wondering if there was a fix for this that didn't involve using a third party program? If not, which program would you guys suggest for limiting the fps?

Here are my specs, in case anyone's interested:

C2D E8600 3.33ghz processor (will be updating to an i5 3570K in a few days)
Nvidia GTX 560ti 448 core
8GB Corsair Dominator RAM
And the mobo is some low budget Asus, that I'll be upgrading in a few days as well.

I was thinking it might be a processor issue, and I was going to try the "affinity 1" fix, but I can't figure out how to do it. If any of you have any ideas on what's causing the graphical problem, I'd really appreciate the help.

Hoping someone can help. I've followed the directions posted earlier about installing Titanium > EQlaunchpad(resource) > Secret's patch and get as far as the server screen. When I select the server it starts to load then I get "Error 1017: Cannot login to the EverQuest server. You may need to re-run the Update Patch. Repeatedly seeing this message indicates a loss of connectivity to the Patch Server. Usually this is temporary."
At first I thought maybe the server was down or something, but Ive been trying for a few days and still nothing. Hoping someone can help me solve this issue.
Also, I've looked back through the earlier posts and tried several thing to resolve this issue and still nothing. Any help is appreciated!!

Fix it by setting your resolution to 640x480 before logging in.

or open up your eqini file and manually set the resolution there to your desktop resolution. I think there are two ini files you need to fix. eqclient.ini and the one in the secrets patch.

List your folder structure...just what folders are inside C:\EQMac and what folders are inside C:\EQMac\resources.

My friend just tried installing it but to no avail. His folders, somehow, were ALL sorts of messed up. He doesn't have the same folder structure as me so I am giving him a copy of my install tomorrow at work. I have a feeling this is the same for other ppl.

Hi all,

Trying to play this and followed the instructions. It runs but only in a small screen in on the computer. I tried resting refresh rate in because it acts like it wants to open full screen but goes back to originally size. I tried deleted client and eqw.ini and that didnt work. The game works but only in a small screen. Any suggestions leave here or pm me.

Yes it is, and Plane of Time had only just recently been broken into. P1999 is great if you only want to experience Classic up through Kunark (hopefully Velious eventually), and EQMac is great if you want to experience classic up through PoP.

ya for sure. the no scroll out is the main CON imo however its not classic so i guess i should love it. tbh i think everyone will be playing EQ Next, it sounds very promising. they should make eq mac sub based and get a legit pc client on it. it would make $$$ compared to the trash they have now. in any case i dont think it matters if you level here, there or anywhere. EQ Next is the next big thing that people are at least going to try. if it really is the "largest sandbox mmo ever made" i dont expect many people to return to eqmac, p99, or any other eq server. lets hope it delivers!

I just installed EQMac. Rolled my tried and true Troll SK (possible Shaman box to come).

Also, is there any way to get a true Full Screen? I can get the game to cover most of the screen, but it's still just a big ass Window.

Also I realize there isn't a true 3rd person view, do you play full screen, or press f9 twice, zoom out then lock the mouse look?

edit: Anybody know how to make an exception in Avast for WSOCK32.dll? I don't particularly like having to disable Avast just to run EQMac.

Yeah like Graahle said above if anyone knows a way for it to run full screen or close that would be appreciated. I got mine to run but it stuck in what I guess is a 400 x 200 window and will not upsize. I tried adjust options and playing with some things but no luck. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure your best bet would be to go into the eqclient.ini and look for the video settings. Check what size display your computer is running and adjust it to that.

Playing around with two boxing on EQMac. The only way I can see to get the mouse to work after AltTabbing between characters is to use Cntrl-Alt-R. Is there a better way to get the mouse to focus on the window I am switching to?

Go into your eqmac folder and find your eqw.ini. Fix this part: "EQWSwitch=`" now you can "alt+tab" by just pressing "`" and you won't get the annoying alt stuck down bug.

Community is not very friendly to outsiders as it used too

unfortunately, a former guild from p99 went over there and woke the sleeper using boxing/hacks forcing the once open community to reject newer players.

i wouldnt be surprised but there is no official word on that. i asked in the global chat and they said people say its going to be shut down all the time. alot of them dont believe itll ever be shut down. at least not until all eq1 live servers are shut down. either way doesnt matter, most of us gonna be on that eqnext bandwagon.

After shutting the Mayong (Lvl 51/50 AA starting toon) server down, they put up a new blue server...the final one of its time on live, Trakanon. Great server, great people - made tons of friends there - ground my way up with the horrible poison everything for big damage system. Flew through the shaman 1.0 epic solo, blew lot of cash getting alchemy skilled up.

Then bang, "RUMOURS" of the server being shut down emerged so that they could use it for a progression server instead. Well, that was it... before the titanic even hit the iceberg, people jumped ship in droves. We were down to about 100 players, and then comes the announcement - integration to Tunare server. I was seething. Not long after that I found P99, and vowed never to return to the dark servers of live.

true but eqmac has been shutting down for years. and im sure you read about eqmac actually being shut down then saved. its actually more populated than some of the live servers now. i suspect if eq mac is going down so is most, if not all, the eq1 live servers are going with it. i remember when they shut down matrix online, sniff sniff. not that it was a good game but at least it was a little different.

dunno they patched the server a month or two ago and it didnt break the pc hack. im sure if its broke someone will fix it and youll be good for another year. so far my monks had a full group during prime time all week. the leveling path is a little diff there. 1-14 is kinda everywhere but mainly FoB, Kurns or CB. 14-24 is PC (Luclin) 24-35 is highkeep gobs

no hybrid penalties. xp is about the same but... with MGB going off every few hours they make low leveling a cinch. think im 2 days played with druid and lvl 30 (leveled him solo without buffs most of it.) my monk is lvl 35 and has about 1 day 6 hours played. im sure it slows down soon but 1-35 p fast.

I'm playing it just to play some EQ. If it does get shut down, oh well. Has some new (different maybe more appropriate here) content and things that I haven't had here so it will be entertaining enough, don't have to get so invested in your chars that it will be earthshattering if/when the pc hack is fixed or the server gets shut down.

It doesn't seem like many people 6 box. They don't have the same kind of MQ2 stuff (legally) available there that makes it easy to do on a server like PEQ. Frankly I would find it a pain to run 6, even if you can automate the fighting part you still spend 4-6x as much time every spell level looking for spells. 2 is a good number.

Eqmac vs P99 Blue, seems like it's lots more there, but a lot of them seem like bots just perma afk in the POK.

I started a DE Enchanter on my fiance's Imac and didn't see another soul in or around Nek.

but when you type in /who all 1 10 the list gets cut off because there's too many results etc...

I figured out how to turn on the old school player models but the wolfs and skele's are all new, not that big of a deal I guess I can live with it.

Does anyone else have the issue of having it get stuck on one box? What I mean is it somehow becomes a priority, so when you alt tab or use the eqw switch the second box becomes controllable, yet the first box is still on top, so now I can see myself moving my second char yet the window is in the background! The only fix seems to be a reboot, and happens every so often and on two differen't Win7 computers.

hmm not sure if this is your prob but when you alt tab over, ALT may be stuck. itll make it so you cant do anything unless you tap ALT twice (after alt tabbing) one way to fix this is something someone said in a previous post. ill quote it after this post.

Go into your eqmac folder and find your eqw.ini. Fix this part: "EQWSwitch=`" now you can "alt+tab" by just pressing "`" and you won't get the annoying alt stuck down bug.

try this, should fix your prob and instead of alt tabbing you just hit "`" to switch boxes.

I have searched google for the zip name, and it seems like its out there but every single download gives me an error. I tried different files on every site that it's on and no problems so I'm guessing the file that got spread around is corrupt or it simply doesn't actually exist anymore. If anyone has this file saved and would be willing to share it via torrent/upload site it would be very much appreciated. Would like to check out this server.

Anyone having issues with boxing while using this client? I have no login issues at all and I can play the game fine using the included EQW beta 2.32, but whenever I try to open a second box it will close out the first box. Help me!! I need a shaman box to help me level.

How to install
1. Install EverQuest Titanium edition and move the folder to C:\
2. Rename the EQ Titanium folder to "EQMac"
3. Download the new Intel EQMac Client located here: LaunchPad 3
4. When the new EQMac client is fully patched, find the folder (default location is C:\Users\Public\Sony Online Entertainment\EverQuest Mac or C:\Users\Default\AppData\Sony Online Entertainment\EverQuest Mac)
5. Go into the folder "EverQuest Mac" > "Contents" > "Resources"
6. In "Resources" folder, Select All > Copy > Paste to your C:\EQMac folder. Overwrite all.
7. Extract Secrets' .zip file to C:\EQMac. Overwrite all. http://fileb.ag/0ei29cadn4k7
8. In C:\EQMac, right click eqw.exe > Properties > Compatibility Settings > Check Run as Administrator > OK.
9. Run eqw.exe
10. If you cannot get it to work (experience weird error), rerun eqw.exe and check "Fix eqclient.ini". This should fix the problem.
11. IMPORTANT: Edit eqclient.ini NewUI=TRUE instead of NewUI=FALSE (This removes the Classic and Velious UI in favor of the Luclin UI, however, the client is much more stable and actually 100% playable as opposed to playing with the older UIs. My suggestion: try the old UIs for a little bit for nostalgia purposes, but inevitably you should switch to Luclin UI for full game functionality! )
11. (Optional): Rename eqtheme.mp3, combattheme1.mp3, combattheme2.mp3, combattheme3.mp3, deaththeme.mp3, lavastorm.mp3, guk.mp3, and nektulos.mp3 to have the original classic MIDI versions restored!
12. (Optional): Go to eqclient.ini, and change LOADARMOR17 through LOADARMOR23 from =FALSE to =TRUE. Change LoadVeliousArmorsWithLuclin=FALSE to LoadVeliousArmorsWithLuclin=TRUE (This will allow you to see Velious armor skins)

As far as i see https://forums.station.sony.com/eq/index.php?threads/alkabor-update-8-26.202787/ they patched it so you are unable to play it on PC Clients, which could explain the 800+ peak population on this server as of late

The server is a joke the people on macs there are a joke. They all have a mental disorders that somehow spending 3 g's on a computer we spend 500 on means they are better humans.

Gms reset the Sleeper on 1 server out of all the live servers b/c their tears were strong suicide rates were about to sky rocket. Do not get involved with this server, Even with so much drama p99 is 100% better.

can't remember if it was reallapse or getsome or whichever cleric awoken sleeper, but i would be upset too if i was tring to f the server and rage quit then have my efforts reset by a gm.
