#1 rule of marketing. An item is worth what a buyer is willing to pay for it.

#2 rule of marketing. inform the customers about new and better versions of a product coming out within the next few weeks

Any 'official' word on the launch of sky? Or is this speculation....

why not just wait until kunark? or velious?

As a melee im always looking to upgrade my gear, even if its the smallest boost to my dps it was worth it.

I'm a few levels from being the only planes ranger in my guild and I still went out and bought 2 ebw's instead of using inferior weapons for a few days.

My point, as a melee its always worth it to upgrade your gear you should constantly be trying to be #1 dps otherwise..whats the point?

If you're not playing until sky go ahead and save up, otherwise keep the best gear on you as possible at all times were not casters after all.

It's all about supply and demand. These are the best non-planar / dragon items for most melee, so everyone will need these at the moment. Not to mention with the amount of people twinking alts with these, so they should hold their prices for the moment at least. Once sky comes out there'll be a bunch of people replacing their gear. When there's multiple people selling the same item, that's when they'll start undercutting each other. Until then i think they'll hold true to about the 12k mark.

with all the 50s running around in guk I'd have to agree. getting the AM/Lord or frenzy camp in guk is like striking lucky at the lottery. I don't see those 2 particular items staying above the 10k range for long at all

12k should be the high end of the FBSS market, but I have seen a few people in the auction channel trying to sell for 14k for weeks. If someone doesn't want to sell it though that's their decision.

SSOY's, and FBSS's will start to go down a crazy amount when Kunark reaches. They will always have a market because they are great twink items (FBSS fo sho), but not near the current market.

Going by the classic timeline Sky should be released roughly 2-3 months before Kunark.

So I guess it depends on if Kunark is actually coming out in October or not. If so, the Sky will not be released till somewhere in August (late July at the earliest)

That is assuming we are shooting for a classic timeline.

Either way, it's quite a bit longer than a couple weeks.
Of course the timeline has been fudged up in the past.

Well look at GEBS, i've seen like 4 people auctioning for them recently, all paying 10k. If you had a pair, why sell it to one of the people for 10k when you could sell them for more and because of the demand one of these people is bound to offer more.

I've seen quite a few ssoys for sale, where as fbss is much rarer. 12k for an fbss would probably be quite decent at the moment i'd say.

I'd probably still buy an FBSS if I had the cash, even after sky. I don't have time for raids.

I don't even think I made 12K plat in 5 years playing on live :( Where's everyone get all this money!?

Well, for one thing, coin drops and the vendor value of items seem to be bit higher on this server than they were on Live ~1999.

Additionally, players know more about where to farm and what to kill to maximize loot gain than they did in 1999 :)

well, there was and still is no rocket science involved here. just go kill giants or specs

Never claimed it was rocket science... All I said is that the players on p99 have more knowledge of how to earn plat than your average player on a live server in 1999.

A guy on live paid me and others each 20k an hour to help him ae nuke stuff in an ae group in Plane of Fire. We were outside his ae group, they out damaged us of course. Anytime I'd need some cash I'd go for an hour.

You can hunt in SolA starting at around level 22, and the mobs there all drop fine steel and gems, as well as plenty of named mobs.

Buy weight reducing bags, always have 6 or 7 bags, get used to being overweight, buy a gem from a merchant when you have too much copper/silver and sell it back, hunt in dungeons not outdoors, don't be in a rush to sell that cool item you just won the /random for, wait for a good price, pay attention to the auction channel, get to know the market and make a lot of PCs, look for high levels looking to offload loot quickly and resell it at a higher value, hunt sand/hill giants as soon as you can for as long as you can... the list goes on.

I never made much plat either, but then again I always play a Warrior and we can't exactly solo much.

Go back in time and camp 50 manastones... that'd sort you out. Everyone wants a manastone, even if they won't be that much use, just to have it.

druids, wizards, clerics. they can all make a tidy sum if they spend a few hours porting / rezzing. Hell, i see some people offering 500p for rezzes. do that 24 times and you get an fbss! bargain.

Money is just a small part of the game though :p

there's really many different ways of making $$ in this game, regardless of the class. The one consensus seems to be hitting 50 first. I can think of 4-5 ideas off the top of my head that can grant you a couple thousand plat in a couple hours of work, but at level 50 they're far easier to achieve.

I do, though, pity melee classes. They do have to spend quite a pretty penny to maximize their potential.

I was a warrior on live, and I was just about dead broke until I started raiding. All the money I earned was invested back into weapons/armor and other upgrades. Once I was raiding my guild funded my resist gear, etc.

I didn't make real plat until I played a caster. As is the case here on P99. I can go anywhere and solo almost anything and farm rares, or fine steel. Money is not an issue here due to my class. There are also a few "key" items that are easy to farm, and quick to sell. Very similar to real life. If there is a demand for a particular item/class items, go farm them and sell them over market value. Congrats you just made a profit, and everyone is happy!

This is also the reason people refuse to sell SSoY's for less than 14k now, because the demand is high for warriors (best aggro weapons atm), as well as the influx of warrior alts. We all know who the real tanks are come Kunark/Velious ;) step aside hybrids! :D
