What class should I play? Shaman or Druid?

you will have an easier time finding groups on shaman, but druids make traveling easy and you can always use it to power level another toon if you get it high enough.

they are both very good soloers. druids you will be quadding at higher levels. shamans solo single targets with a pet/slow/epic. shaman epic is quite easy so if that's a factor for you i'd go shaman.

which class is better for soloing?

-For faster xp Druid is better.
-Early lvls are tougher with a shaman, but once you get canni and your first pet at lvl34 things become easier.
-For diversity and more fun, shaman is definitively the better option.
-For tougher mobs shaman is better.
-for lazy lvling, shaman is the better choice. Simply cast root, slow, stack your dots and repeat.

Depends on whether you're talking max xp or tough single mob solo camps.

High level druids are capable of taking down 3-4 mobs at a time (and travelling quickly wherever they want to do so), but that payoff comes with more med downtime. Shamans are in almost all cases the best class for soloing any given single mob- slow/regen/dog/dot/proc items are tough to beat.

There are way too many druids as it is.

Shaman.

Shaman is a late-peaking class. Druids are an early-mid peaking class.

Shaman are probably, overall, the most powerful class in the game at 60 with all their spells (Granted, Torpor is expensive as hell) and even *decent* gear.

Druids are probably, overall, one of the worst classes at 60. They've got some nifty tools, but the array of druid skills are just spread too thin to be seriously helpful. Charming rats in hate is pretty sick DPS, though.

As I understand it, Shamans are highly desired in groups/raids for their stat buffs, slows, and as a secondary healer. Not as good as a Druid healer, but with cannibalism you have less downtime, which is a good thing considering all the buffs a Shaman has to keep on people.

If you want to solo at 60 and make profit porting, Druid is the way to go, but for raiding/groups, Shaman is way preferred.

Druids are only maybe a better at soloing pre 34 and even that is probably arguable.

Shaman is the superior class in just about every way.

I've seen it said before about this exact same comparison and I'll say it again here, because I think it sums it up pretty well:

The slow spell is more powerful than the entire Druid class.

Track and Porting is pretty OP. Not that either of those will help you actually kill the target like slow will, but don't underestimate those skills.

That's one of the things I enjoy about EQ, the skills that aren't directly related to combat that are still game-changing.

Tracking is nice but you can do without it in every situation. As far as porting goes, offer 50p to someone not in a group and they will drop whatever they are doing to port you.

Good luck. Do you just run into HS to kill Drusella without first checking if she is up? Have you tried tracking down PHers before (IE: Skyfire mobs like Eldrig as a near-worst-case)?

As far as porting goes, offer 50p to someone not in a group and they will drop whatever they are doing to port you.

Then we agree, porting is a game-changing skill. If its not game-changing, then run everywhere you need to go instead of bothering porting classes.

go shm, they're easy to gear, lvl, and should get into groups quite often easily

Not as good as a Druid healer

They have the same basic heals and shamans have better mana management, plus torpor.

Having played a Druid and Shaman. I can say Hands down that Shaman has been a much better time. I am constantly asked to be in a group, where my druid would be LFG for hours.

SHAMAN FTW

With charm at lvl 14 a druid is the best soloer in the game. Chanters can be as good but they need someone to sow them and snare the mobs or they die too much.

Druids aren't as group friendly but you can level a druid to 50ish then PL another toon to 50 before the shaman will get there. And most druids will be rich at 29 so can then afford to twink out the class they really want to play.

Druids are by far the best 'first' character on any server.

Notice this shaman has A) Jaundiced Bone Bracer B) Manastone C) Fungi

Show me a video of the same fight without those three expensive pieces and we can compare.

A better question: what pieces of equipment would you give the druid to do the same thing?

A Druid would have just Charmed that Giant and killed the other one being Naked. Easy as pie. Just kidding. I don't think a Giant is a animal. but you get the point.

A Iksar Necro would have just root rotted it naked also. And had full mana when he was done. Not oom like the Shaman. A non Ogre Shaman is way overrated.

You don't "think" a giant is an animal, but you're going to educate us on the way that multiple different classes stack up against each other in this situation?

Cool.

Wow Fisch you need to get out of Michigan. Get some sun and have some fun. You can't get a joke?? You must play a Ogre. And seeing a video of a Shaman with A) Jaundiced Bone Bracer B) Manastone C) Fungi running out of mana and having like 35% health left is impressive. Huh.
