Hi there, I don't know where else to post this but I'm new to EverQuest and just joined. Friend of mine got me into the game a long time ago but honestly have never ever played classic live at all. I've played on another server but lost in-tress completely in the game. Then I found this server and it has more players. I've made a few characters on the server already and been following the wiki but I still don't know a lot about the game. I hope im not posting in the wrong area but I haven't found another area to post this in.

Thanks, I came from other MMO's that just got boring as heck and I want something that will keep me busy for a while.

Yeah I hate when I get lost in-trees. I avoid forests as much as possible because of this.
Seriously though, welcome! If you need something in-game don't be afraid to look me up :)

But of course and thanks ^_^. I made a warrior, trying out different classes and such trying to figure out what I want to play. My main thing is I like playing tanks and mages. I've heard some storys about trying to solo as a mage from my buddy.

Mage solo is still decent despite going at about half the rate as before. Warrior is probably the hardest, most unrewarding class you can play as a first character because they are more or less totally gear dependent.

Ok, really donno what that guy's problem is. Hmm I might make a mage then. From reading on the wiki gnomes are the friendliest?

Ignore him. Forums often get spammers. As for mage there's a lot of different tactics to bypass the nerfs. It sucks....bad...but it's still very doable. As for the Gnome thing...I'll wait for NiNik to come in an comment on that :P. I prefer Dark Elves though <3

Hehe, im not really worried about the spammer. Im more worried about having fun. Hmm, Think i'll make mages of different races and see which one I like more. Honestly looking at all the different races/class combo's is pretty insane. Just tells me im gonna love the game even more.

Dark Elves can use Hide which is an excellent ability, imo making them the best Mages. There's also Erudites, who look amazing in robes and have the highest Intelligence, and Humans, who have some of the best faces in the game, and the highest Stamina, which is also very important. In fact, I would put all of your bonus points into Stamina after ensuring your Agility is at least 75. Any reasonable amount of planar gear is going to maximize your Intelligence. Stamina is extremely hard to itemize, especially for an Intelligence caster, and is always useful.

It is an exponential curve of Novelty leading into infinity on 12/21/12... where the Eschaton awaits.

I would join red server except I don't know a thing about EverQuest. I rather to get to know the game more before I jump into a pvp server.

First character I made on this server was a Mage and well let me tell ya they nerfed them alot since then. AoE rain spells used to hit everything in range for 3 waves I would absolutely shred 3-4 mobs at a time in dungeons. I'd recommend sticking to dungeons for serious bonus exp, always bind outside and have gate up and plan on dying a few times till you find a good camp. always keep buffs up and the good thing about mages is you can easily take 2 mobs on just focus fire down the first one with nukes and let pet solo the other to split camps well thats my 2 cents.

Make an erudite paladin if you want a challenge. Plus besides Sadad I don't think there are any.

Hmm I have a n00bish question for all ye oldbies out there, when it comes to skills, is it possible to max them all but the trade skills? Im curious cause I don't think the wiki says anything about this and i've been using it for a lot of info.

Basic skills you can bring up to your cap, some classes have a higher cap (war/rog can get Bind Wound higher than others, theres a list on wiki).
For your casting skills (abjuration/alteration etc.) you can cap those out, however as a caster at 20 (or was it 30?) you can get Specialize Abjuration/Alteration etc., which gives you a discount on how much mana those types of spells take. Unfortunately only one can go to cap, while the rest you don't specialize in will cap out early.

the good thing about mages is you can easily take 2 mobs on just focus fire down the first one with nukes and let pet solo the other to split camps well thats my 2 cents.
This works ok until about 20th level. Then mobs hit much too hard to stand and nuke them down. You can let your pet take two mobs, and that works well till about 24th level.
There's not really a whole lot a Mage can do to be effective against more than 1 exp-earning mob at a time later on in mid to high levels. Mage is excellent at fighting 1 mob at a time. When 2 mobs come, that usually earns you a swift death unless you absolutely know what you're doing and are prepared for it. The above strategy will not work.
