Hey everyone. I just heard about Project 1999 and installed it, created a Monk for the time being. Super excited to start playing in earnest but I'd like to make sure I roll a toon that I can get groups with.

What's the most needed class? Most over played?

Really you should play whatever you enjoy the most.

I've been living in Sol B for a while though and during my play times it always seems like a huge pain in the arse to find replacement CCers and tanks. However, a good splitting Monk is always quite useful in my opinion.

As far as over played there's usually plenty of utility classes, especially Druids. I've also talked to a lot of Clerics who seem to have a hell of a time trying to find groups these days for some reason.

Also, keep in mind that in the 40s it's usually a challenge for anyone to find a group right away during prime time. There's only so many places to hunt at the moment so you will inevitably run into problems being "needed" at some point.

So once again, play what makes you happy.

Druids are the most overplayed

Any class that has a nasty exp penalty, is the most needed. (SK's, Pally, Bard, Ranger)

I concur with Snifs. There aren't all that many rogues or wizards, either. Clerics and enchanters seem almost as overplayed as druids, but they're so great in classic that no one complains.

Play whatever you enjoy most. No matter what class you pick by the time you hit 20 there will be too many, that has been my exp. If you play monk make a shaman friend early on so you aren't sitting on your ass lfg all the time.

What's the most needed class? Most over played?

The answer is going to change from week to week. People are constantly joining or creating alts (especially given the level cap is only 50 and no AAs to soak up experience). A class that everyone seems to be begging to join their group today will be half the population of the newbie zones tomorrow, and the server will be lousy with them.

Just play whatever class(es) interest you the most. If you aim to fill the server's "needs", you'll quickly find those needs have changed and the "demand" isn't what you expected.

play what you want some of us are working on our 2nd or 3rd 50

tanks/healers are always in demand

anything else is filler

I think I'm gonna stick with Monk for now, always thought they were cool. Really can't beat a Half Elf Warrior though..

I played a half-elf warrior pre-kunark to velious.

It was tough. You are always heavy and low HPs.

Based off the number of tells I get a day from complete random strangers calling me "bro" asking me to sow/port/heal/bind/buff them, I would have to say druid is apparently the most needed class........

play what you want some of us are working on our 2nd or 3rd 50

anything else is filler

I found that Clerics are over represented, too many of them leveling up in the last month.
Don't believe the non cleric players who tell you there's more clerics needed, they just want to make sure there's one spare LFG for their own healing needs.

Nilbog ran a DB query while the servers were being moved, so its a little old and counts everyone in the database that are 30+, but its still useful imo ...

I find it best to just play what you like. If you make something that's needed and find out you don't like it, you're going to resent every time your friends or guild asks you to log on the "needed" class. I learned this the hard way.
