Had D3 downloaded ready to install for a few weeks. Decided to try Tera in the mean time, and I am glad I did. I rolled a Slayer on Jagged Coast(PVP) and having lots of fun. I installed D3 and played around a bit, but I wont be playing much for a few months. Tera really is a very good game.

Beta tested both games, TERA hands down. To each his own though, I've never been a big fan of Blizzard myself.
PS. Don't forget about Guild Wars 2.

So you would definitely say TERA is worth the 15 bucks a month? I'm contemplating cancelling SWTOR since my guild fell apart.

The swtor world was pretty bad and tera's doesn't look too bad from what I saw. I would pick tera just because of that.

I've heard nothing but bad things about D3 so far tbh. It's striking me as another "overhyped and didn't deliver" game. I'd go Tera imo.

Here I can change that for you,
Really fun things about D3 (as a former semi-hardcore now casual gamer)
-Followers, even when solo make it seem like a team thing
-Abilities, lots to choose and mold to what you like and keeps you thinking while playing (not just Hammerdin hold down right click and move around)
-Multiplayer, I'm only in Nightmare A3 right now and level 46 and let me tell you when you have 2-3 people in a game it gets rough. So much fun and I'm not even on Hell yet or Inferno. Elite mobs are the true game, their random affixes can really fuck your day up
-Gold AH, get a rare your class can't use? No problem, sell it for like 10k gold then buy a rare or unique you like. AH searches can clarify exactly what you want in an item (My char is Wiz so I usually search for INT 40+, VIT 40+, Has Sockets)
-Crafting, major gold sink and still useful early on least. Also with Gems there are 14 tiers, monsters stop dropping them at tier 8 so you need to combine to make the best. I love this personally, I like grindfests in crafting.
-Personal drops, no more click quick to get items. Everyone gets personal drops off monsters and bosses.
-Gold, it picks up automatically and so far I always have a need for it
-Difficulty, normal was a nice walk through of the Acts and get to learn your char, Nightmare starts to get hard and I can't wait to see hell/inferno
I love playing this game casually, great for some mindless monster killing and loot dropping. If you enjoyed D2 you'll likely enjoy this. You know or you could keep hating on a game because it's in vogue and you've forgotten that D2 was nothing more than the same mindless not difficult mob killing dungeon crawls.

It's not about hating on a game because it's in vogue, I think people realize its drawing a big crowd just because of the name. There's nothing innovative about the game period. Blizzard didn't really crunch at the table to make something special, they solely relied on the name of the product.

Why do people obsessive over being. "innovative"? I don't understand that, no game has been "innovative" in years so by that logic you should hate most video games.

I played D1 never played D2 and I have played tons of MMO's I like D3 because its not a huge time sink. You can jump into a party, jump out and doesnt effect your friends progress or game. Tera i havent played but I honestly dont have the patience for another MMO atm. Would have to be something amazing for me to want to give another MMO a shot.

Been playing Tera fof 5 days now, have a 31 Lancer, love it. The only game I could ever consider dropping Tera for now would be GW2. The combat is intense, the little shit such as gryphon rides/exploring/crafting is fantastic looking and well done. The story line quests are challenging; and it's truely a skill game. You could essentially solo instances as most/any class if you play patient passive and are aware.
The pvp needs some help in the sense of battleground additions and what not, but guildwars are constantly happening and for some reason killing someone in this game is even more hilarious than rallos zek item loot. Tera is the absolute shit and I haven't been addicted to a game like this in some time lol.

D3 delivered less than I expected. Tera delivered more than I imagined.
D3 is nothing new, same click to move interface from 1995. Horrible gfx, boring story.
Tera is different. It plays a lot like wow with better gfx and giant boobies. But the combat is surreal. If you've played Age of Conan it is similar, all your attacks are in real time and some skills chain together for burst dps, but where conan was kinda slow and non responsive Tera is fast and exciting.
I've played a lancer and a slayer and they are amazing. The slayer is a typical glass cannon, kinda like the herald of xotyl in aoc. For eq think a rogue class but with a big freaking sword. You can do massive aoe dmg and get some stuns and stuff, but really can't take a hit. But you get a wonderful dodge ability.
Lancers are the pure tank class, not bad single target dps, but the block skill is where they make their money. Time your shield blocks between your attacks to keep aggro and avoid taking damage. Its really fun and plays a lot more like some 80's action arcade game than your typical autoattack mmo.

Well said.
Tera has potential, but tons missing especially in the end game. Hope they make some decent sales and reinvest in the game because it could really be a good game.

D3 was all that I expected it to be, fun. I enjoy playing the game, being able to adjust my class abilities and experiment, chat to my friends, join a group on the fly and not be devoted to a fixed amount of time.
Tera looks so anime/FF-ish. When most people buy a game like that as a bridge to another I know it is just...meh. People should have looked at http://secretwar.thesecretworld.com/ if they are looking for a MMORPG, not...Tera.

If I was into anime I'd consider Tera, but since I pretty much despise everything anime I'm not going near it. It looks awful. I mean wtf is this? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=oF8aNEWsm1w#t=85s) Makes me want to run away screaming.
D3 isn't looking so great either. I'm sticking with Diablo 2 for my Diablo fix. I might possibly consider GW2 but there will be a bunch of expansions you have to buy again, and I've become very cheap with my videogaming. A game has to be phenomenal for me to either subscribe to it or invest in multiple expansions.

Hey i hear you, $60 out of the gate and many game models are bent on getting you to spend more money. If it's not the $15 a month fee its forcing you to spend real dollars for premium items and or content. I do not think these companies understand how bad the present economy is. They are going after internet sites that have illegal game downloads but rob you with a $60 price. If they bloody reduced the price to $30 so many more people would buy the game and not steal it. Soon, all games will take on D3s model of Internet Single Player games where the internet is your authorization to play. No more rented or torrentz games unless your on Gamefly or the like. I am not a console gamer, I've spent $3000 abouts keeping my PC up to date hardware wise but it's getting crazy out there.
D3 has an AH and soon an RMAH where you spend Real money for pixel gear. They have even said that you won't find the set's, Legendary items you want without using the AH or trading with friends. This leads me to believe they are going to make these things so rare you will HAVE to pay to have them. I've heard the same of GW2. Not liking where all this is headed at all.

All games do this, infact, most all businesses/products do this as well. Its the first phase of a business cycle, which is meant to capture those who were really interested in the product. Once the product is out for awhile, then they lower the price to capture those who were on the fence. And while I agree about the economy, I also don't think people realize how bad the economy is. People still spend plenty when they should be saving.

I enjoy TERA for what it is, i've not played a hack and slash in a while and the combat is really entertaining. EVE is still my main thing, this is a little entertainment.

I saw this thread but really didn't feel qualified to answer it. That was until I found this Diablo III Review (http://techprowl.com/diablo-iii-review/231/) and now I'm pretty convinced as to which is the superior video game. I am going to go out on a limb and say it is better than Tera. I mean if you just look at the system requirements, the lag is low. Also the classes look much more interesting than Tera offers. I mean Tera is a WoW clone, at least D3 is a 2D WoW clone so it is somewhat different you know? Also I think Diablo 3 will have more players and more of my pals on it than Tera would.

I dunno D3 is pretty fun. I'm in Hell difficulty right now. There's a few misunderstanding about the game . First is the D3 was going to be some revolutionary game. It's not. You get diablo3 because you like diablo series. It's the same, but with updated graphics and items etc etc.. The other is that the RMT is going to be run by chinese farmers, which isn't exactly accurate. RMT will be regionally based. As far as I can tell, being from Canada, I've only seen Canadians on my server.
Co-op mode 2-4 players is were it's at (so far).Mobs get harder and drops are way better. I've really been enjoying the AH and the game. They use the WoW interface framework (so its familiar) and Diablo game play and its worked well so far. I think there's too many haters or to high of expectation for this game ..
MrSparkle001
05-30-2012, 04:28 PM
It's not the same. There's no pvp, item drops are reduced due to the existence of the AH (this is confirmed, not my opinion, due to them wanting an "economy". Please, it's not a MMORPG), potions are replaced by health globes which give it an arcade feel, no more runes, no more horadric cube recipes, and weapon damage affects spell damage which is just retarded.
Oh and there's no offline single player so you're at the mercy of the servers which are still unstable.
Diablo 2 is the better game. They should have just improved on that.

I'm hearing you right back. I spend $2000 a few months ago to upgrade my ancient computer (well this is now brand new save for the keyboard, mouse and monitor). I've been gaming since childhood - mid 1980s. I do not like where the industry is headed, and while I do partially blame pirating and understand their need to curtail it, it's also chasing me away. I don't buy download-only games unless it's the only form available, I do not subscribe to MMOs anymore, I don't play f2p games with cash shops that are virtually required (which is what most asian MMOs seem to be), and I'm staying away from games like Diablo 3 that require an internet connection to even play single player.
Is that my age talking? Maybe. I grew up in an age where you drove or begged for a ride to your local game store, bought a box with a cartridge or multiple floppy discs inside, and didn't even install games until the mid 90s. Pool Of Radiance on the Commodore 64 was 4 double-sided floppy discs you had to swap between as you played. Wrap your heads around that all you young'ins!

I feel you. i rode my bike almost 10 miles round trip to buy "the bards tale" when i was a kid.
I really dont like the way the industry is moving either. This BS of RMT for gear is garbage. They make the game where you cant function properly without paying, which takes all the fun out of the game. They might as well just give you cheat codes along with the item. Wheres the sense of accomplishment where those with the best gear are those who just have the most cash to waste on pixels.
