View Full Version : Racing to content is not classic

On Brell, I don't recall any serious racing to content happening until well after 1999. I did hear horror stories about loathsome guilds on other servers, but this was the exception, not the rule in 1999.

Rename this to Project 2001, maybe. That'd be more accurate.

in that case we would have to reset the server every 6 to 7 months to keep the name Project 1999 or keep changing it to project 2000, then project 2001, then 2002 and so on...either way you make no sense.

On Terris-Thule (and no doubt others were on other servers) we were racing to Trakanon and VS during Kunark... and since this server is currently in Kunark...

Thank you, come again.

lol Brell was soft. everyone bowed to "Silent Redemption" and that was that... what they left for the server we enjoyed but there was no race because SR had downd their mob within moments. So he IS correct.... on BRELL racing was not "Classic"

The OP's point is easy to attack - he didn't make it impervious to the kind of treatment that is the norm on message boards these days.

However, he does have a point. Todays EQ playerbase is a lot less innocent and a lot more brash than the playerbase of yesteryear. This cannot be changed, time marches on. So in that sense, the respondents are correct. It is lamentable though, IMO.

I remember racing over raid zones being very classic, even well before kunark.

Who gives a fuck what your server was like 13 years ago? This is how this server is now. This isn't 1999, 99% of us aren't playing on a fucking dial-up modem.

Don't let the other 90% of the server hear you say that though. You know....the ones that don't play here because they liked the game as it was back then, but rather as a form of nostalgia to pretend they are 13 years younger. The ones that actually build a crappy Windows 95 PC with dial-up internet from an AOL CD at their local Krogers and adamantly shun all things post-cats, that may have been intelligent or common sense to be implemented, simply in an effort to pretend they are in High School once again.

Racing was somewhat classic on my server. Well actually if someone got there before you, you could fight them so...

I have yet to hear someone explain to me how races happened with zero variance on live. I guess all guilds were too dumb to get there a few minutes early?

Poopsocking wasn't yet a way of life. People would meet outside of PoF portal, and whoever had a force capable of breaking in first basically won.

I'm sure there was racing on patch days.

Yeah well...raiding being the driving force of a servers "life" and "health" isn't classic either.

Just gotta roll with the punches.

Page 2. Sweet. Thanks for the bumps trolls; couldn't have done it without ya. FYI, Kunark didn't launch in 1999. Cheers to the one or two normal posters!
