This is a thread for building excellent karma for the folks that take the time to do something nice for you in the game when they don't need to. This is the internet thread version of paying it forward, where instead you just put folks on other peoples' radars for nice things to happen to them and also I don't get stabbed like Haley Joel Osment does. I hope none of you were planning to watch Pay It Forward tonight, or else I'll have to pay it backwards.
Anyway I've started a monk and he's level 7, and today Kaewen so generously gave me a bounty of monk stuff for no reason whatsoever. If the rapture were to start today, I would heartily recommend Kaewen as someone Jesus should take if he's not too busy turning water into wine because come on guys isn't it time we did something about Jesus?
Have you ever had someone do something nice for you? Well, not ever, but in EverQuest and on this server Project 1999? Pump their tires here! (That's an expression meaning say something nice about them).
Good work comely and intelligent fellows,
Soyster

WAIT I have to respond to my own post. Why? Because I met another gentleman and a scholar, that's why.
I don't know if I've told you this yet, but when I was a teen I lived in a trailer park and played an arcade game called The Bearfighter, and I beat it and aliens came down and said I was the Last Bearfighter. I try to keep it private since I'm going through a lot of emotions right now.
But an excellent spellcaster discovered my quest and decided to support me in it by giving me many buffs in exchange for nothing at all. Now I can go out and do the death blossom on those bears and take vengeance for all the bearfighters lost.
Thank you, Colte. You've contributed to the death of many bears this night.

Mousey, for taking the time to help me and put me in the right direction for a botched quest turn in, and for giving me gems to help replace what I lost on the failed turn in, and Slave on the forums for helping me to solve my NPC botched turn in problem.
Duidwen the druid, for taking the time to port a lowbie level 3 barbarian rogue who asked if he could port from NK to WC even though he was busy doing something at the time, still took the time to help me get to freeport area anyways. That was about 6 hours ago and the rogue is now level 8 and moving right along in CB.
Mechlinger of BDA... and his alt, geared up a cleric in our group with an upgrade or two and took the time to group with a couple oldschool newbies like our cleric and myself for a few hours. Also, when asked by a level 5 in CB for a rez for his friend... didn't even hesitate. "Sure, no problem" was Mechlingers answer.
Stuff like this might not seem like a big deal, but in a way... it is a big deal and thank you to these people!

Won't toot my own horn or pat myself on the back here (don't want to break my arm by doing so) but I am glad to see so many other people helping out their fellow EQ players. It is encouraging and the more we stick to it the better chances are we will all stick around and keep this project we all seem to be enjoying going. Nice thread, hope to see it full of good turns like this

Roshi (i think his main is Tyrany) gave me some gear and a decent amount of plat to start out
a fellow named Dragonfists ran past me randomly in Oasis and gave me a Hero Bracer and a Poison Wind Censer!
Id like to time the time out to thank TMO, if you have never played an just read the trolls of p99 forums im sure they seem selfish , but if you actually have ever played w/ them they are a very nice group of people an have helped me personally, and others i know, in so many ways like epic pieces/rezzes/ot hammers/gear the list goes on. Thanks , no brown nose here just saying i like what i have seen.

Great people I've had the pleasure of meeting..
Internode -TMO Great Ranger! I've witnessed him survive a beetle attack.. It was a 3 hour epic battle, but Internode in the end, was victorious! But really, Internode always seems to go out of his way to help newbies out.. Thanks for being awesome
Heallun - BDA This guy works a manastone like no other! Almost everytime 1-2% health.. It's crazy! Great person and has no equals in the power leveling industry!
Speedhbump - Enraptured Saved a warrior from a terrible death loop....
Liia Helping when she can to ress folks.. Like traveling many zones to help someone with a ress goes a long way in kindness..
Bigazz - BDA Helping on warrior advice.. Thanks man!
Catherine - Taken Just being awesome C2ing/SoSing folks in EC!
There is to many to list. I've had the pleasure of meeting or being there to witness many random acts of kindness.
P99 has a lot of great folks.. A small community is like a family.. Of course there is going to be some fighting, disagreements and some he said she said bullshit drama but I believe all in all this has to be the best community of people I've ever played with in any MMO.

I'm glad there are so many good samaritans running about the Norrath of 1999!
I have the pleasure to note that an amiable and interesting monk by the name of Khuros noticed the modest cloth cap adorning my head, and thought that he had something that would be better suited for my skin tone and bringing out the color of my eyes. A top knot headband was just the thing he said, and he happened to have an extra one.
I googled the style and I'm not sure I agree it fits with the disciplined and humble monk style I usually aim for, but when I slipped it on I felt my ab muscles bulge and the ladies started paying more attention to me, so atop my head it will remain.
Thanks Khuros!
Rulluyen(?) 55 rogue doing his founy pick saw me last week running around Kaladim with my tarnished dagger and tattered gear and gave me the non-visible RS from renux, her dagger, and an SBD.

Catterine from TMO was nice enough to not only port me for a corpse run to Paw (i died right after getting lvl 36 and de-lvled), but she also logged on to her cleric (who was in KC, found herself a port to NK) to rez me so i could get my lvl back. Very kind, and she spent a good 40 minutes or more out of her game time to help some stranger.

Jangles, out of curiosity do you employ or deploy this pay it forward and generosity mentality in real life?
Like say to police, teachers, firemen, good neighbors etcetc?

This is why 'thank you' threads are just as bad as 'I hate you' threads.
They name people without permission and put them under a spotlight(for good or bad actions). It's equally intrusive and inappropriate and getting a hundred tells from new players asking for money because "I was told you're nice" isn't fair on that player.
You're only here talking about it, not because you genuinely believe they deserve to be honored but because YOU want to share good news with others because it makes YOU feel good.
They were generous to you, to YOU. So be humble and say thank you.
But also just as important, be gracious and keep it private - have some respect.
If no one else should ever know that they are nice..fine, though you know and that's what is important.
(TMO comes to mind right? Lots of hate on the forums, but individually we've all met and enjoyed their company. We don't need to mention it here, it won't change people's perception of them, and it won't change how we enjoy the way they treat us in game).
Threads like these are of as little value to the forums as the RED server jerk-each-other off posts.

To all the folks that helped me get my quest piece from Phinny's room (while he was up!) and then helped me kill the final quest target for my Divine Might spell scroll. I seriously didn't think I'd get that spell on this server being an unguilded commando.
And to the fellow that hooked me up with all sorts of paladin gear in Kelethin when I started on the server. I'd saved enough to buy some stiches of bronze and he had a few pieces he was auctioning. When I got to the bank, he inspected my newbitude and then proceeded to give me goodies! I believe his name was Kaldaen, blonde DWF PAL. He gave me a charred guardian bp, a mistmoore shield (which I have to this day for resists) several pieces of small bronze and two +2 stamina earrings! I'll always remember that leg up and have tried to pay it forward here and there.
Edit: Alcandre - He was the DWF PAL that decked me out in Kelethin that night.

When I played in 2010, I think I was level four; and I ooc'd in West Freeport if anyone had a bronze dagger to buy; and some guy said I can have one for free if I can find him. Found him in the Arena :). And he gave me a dragoon dirk. I was overjoyed!

The past couple nights there has been a very kind fellow by the name of Jainis buffing at the PoD lift. He's a ranger and I'll be rooting for him in BotB! xD
Also, there was a twenty something monk as I zoned into cb today that handed off a few bags full of cb belts, a couple lego pads, and all his low moneys. I dont remember your name(something like Zilkiris?), but thank you!!

these are the good people I met.
Supaskillz / Garrukk - helped me start out on the server, bought me a lot of gear on my necro to start out and lent me many items.
Cilienya - Helped me with rezzes, farming a bracelet and also gave me an awesome belt!
Peate - This guy is a legend, helped me farm my quillmane cloak and in return I helped him get his monk item from sk 9 dareb skull I think )
Bouncerr - Met him by selling PLing on an alt, turns out he is a nice guy and gave me a very nice discount on some items!
These guys are top players imo
Elcamino... When I first started playing on the server, was L4 I think and in GFay ooc'ing for a bind. Elcamino first refused the 2pp I tried to tip for the bind. Then, taking note of my magnificent full suit of patchwork leather and my awesome tarnished weapons, told me to wait and came back with an Axe of the Iron Back and 30pp. That was a very nice leg up.

This is why EQ is so much better than the newer games. The most trivial of upgrades are AMAZING when you have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Makes any gear you obtain worth so much, instead of same_stat_gear_+02 every couple levels.

The scarabs had formed a line. Like children waiting for Santa at the mall, they were squeaking with glee--except instead of sitting on my lap they were chewing me in half. I would pick the items off Soyster's corpse and the next thing I knew there was a scarab waiting to make me its dung beetle. Let me tell you, the experience I was gaining was negative.
Then he appeared. A philosopher. A savior. A renaissance. He appeared over the horizon, sympathetic to the plight of the scarab hunter, and with a few waves of his spear I was the avatar of scarab slaughter. It was not my arms that slew those dastardly bugs; it was the magic of Droxx (although I did happily soak up the resulting experience points).
Not only do I thank you Droxx--all the natural prey of the Commonlands Scarabs thank you.

I have to give a few shoutouts while i'm here.
Ashon - Made me a full set of banded armor when i was level 7 or so.
Gadwin <Taken> - I was a level.. maybe 10.. I ooc'ed in NFP where the bank was and he showed me then inspected my banded armor from Ashon and proceeded to hand me a Sarknak Pitchtaka (SP?) and a shieldstorm. Gave me a lot of paladin-ly advice along the way as well as gone on some crazy corpse runs for me.
Heallun <BDA>. Fantastic little dude, everybody knows that. Lot of crazy CR's for me too, along with telling me randomly about naggy/vox raids.. lol.
Mokusei - Awesome druid who's main is a pally and understands the struggle! lol..
Carver and Halfelf <TMO> - I was lvl 40 and they helped Ritual <Full Circle> Kill Lucan so i could get soulfire.
Vianna <FC> - Heals me every step of the way and bought me a tree weave and also sacrificed her FP faction to help with soulfire.
I've tried to take on this kindness and generosity myself in these later levels. But overall? Yeah.. great folks! Sorry if i missed anybody! lol
-Castyel <Full Circle>
I wish to God that I remembered the name of the Cleric that rezzed me about 25 times outside of CT when I bound there (like an idiot) and went afk (like an idiot) to talk to my baby momma (like an idiot). Those damn Bouncers.
This was pre-Epic, so dude was there for a while. I'd pretty much always been broke in EQ, and told him that there was no way I could adequately compensate him, and his reply was just "Happy to help".
So, whoever you were, you are probably the reason I stuck with this server after losing several levels in the 30s to a death loop.

When I first came here in Jan 11 I went to the sister camp and a mage that was soloing the camp agreed to group with me, even though he was handling it easily.
He looked at my gear and asked if I had just started. I told him yes and was excited to play eq again. I could tell he was twinked well with a SMR!
We grouped for about an hour and then he had to go. He stuck 15 sapphires in my trade window and said "this should help you out".
He must of stopped playing that mage around lvl 20 because I never see him on the friends list anymore. That guy made the world a lot bigger a lot faster with that 1500 pp to start out with at lvl 12, and it was much appreciated.
I try and return it whenever I can to players I see. I gave an enc the oracle robe off my back in Gfay a few days ago while playing my level 16 enc alt, and it felt good to do so.

Inappropriate, a fellow Asgard member. He was randomly PLing my group in MM last night, Thanks man! :)

Xliten locked down Quillmane for me yesterday and charmed her so she wouldn't run off. This was after she had been sniped twice by anonymous people (I stumbled upon Quillmane corpses) while a rogue and I had been spawning her. It just so happened that this Quillmane had a cloak on her.
No, but actually, I spawn Quillmane a lot, and I'd say almost 20+ people from all different guilds on the server have given me tells saying they see Quillmane at 'x' location. Thank you to everyone who has helped me in South Karana. It really means a lot to me.
Thanks to Wyze who ported me out of Kunark to GFay - during which I promptly went Linkdead and could not pay him.
When I finally got back on I let him know and he was very polite about it, didn't require payment, and wished me good luck.
I sure appreciated it, cause I really needed to get to Mistmoore.
Thanks, Wyze.

When I was starting on this server, some high level gave me a bunch of items, I canceled the trade and tried to run away, he caught me and tried the trade again, this time I accepted it and deleted all the backpacks. I was enraged that I was mistaken for some freeloader so I told him to leave me alone.
One other time I was in south Karana and someone came by me with quillmane, he told me to loot the corpse and get the cloak. Offended, I sent him an angry tell. "Do I look like an erudite to you?" I deleted the cloak and continued hunting aviaks

Thanks to Sixsix the necro for clearing library in kaesora and constantly checking for failed crypt raider spawn for me when i was a young bard...he was there for a very long time until he got the ancient coin for nostrolo's tambourine. Eventually he also got the staff he was there for originally.

I started about a year ago last February . I've had a few month long breaks while leveling so far.
On my first day in the swamp a troll shaman named.. Zydep? Drainbamage? gave me a Bloodstained tunic and two Ivory Bracelets.
A day or two later, Smilkers handed me a Smoldering Brand. This was a game changer for me. Without this incredibly awesome proccing weapon I might have /ragequit.
Other notable good people on my list -
Catherine, Happy/Crappyfeets, Unkiller, Gnomebert.
All the clerics of P99 that have rezzed me countless times.

Just thought I should throw the names of the people who helped me with my Canni2 quest (in no particular order):
Boadley of FC - For coming all the way out to TT to help me find that gosh forsaken yun shaman
Krashed - For giving me the clay for the canni2 quest
Hammer of TMO - For killing the yun shaman for me after helping Boadley find his corpse
Dippin of FV - For porting me out of TT
Scooby of BDA - For helping me find my corpse in TT after the power went out the night before :(
Deeps of FE - You didn't really help, but you helped by not being an asshole and letting me turn in my quest by holding off on killing turn-in npc.
So needless to say, that quest was not fun for me, but I appreciate all the love on this server. <3

Farm the Bard (someone's alt I'm assuming).
When I was a a tiny lvl 1 halfling, he was busy thinning the ranks of the Deputies. Not only did he keep me company (seriously, Rivervale is empty most of the time) but he let me loot a few spears, which at 11pp each to a vendor is like hitting the newbie lottery.
Thanks, Farm! I'm still putting that cash to good use!

Iflyhigh is really nice, refusing payment for some buffs and just being all around really cool about it. I'm sure being asked for buffs has to get old but the players that are still kind about it are awesome.

Planarity: 60 Cleric. Rezzed my butt in Loio, I had no cash to pay him, he was slightly angry. I added him to my friends list to pay him, but he's always doing something cool in a cool zone.
I still have cash for him plus interest because I feel very duechy for not having money to pay him at the time. If anyone see's planarity, Let him know an old newb would like to pay his healing ass.

Because a lot of people don't like TMO. That and you post a lot of useless self attention grabbing crap on the boards that most people are tired of and/or don't give two shits about.
But really, carry on. If nothing else, the garbage you post is fun to read at least.

That seems to be an unavoidable aspect of running a top tier raiding guild, there are over zealous, aggressive/elite jackasses tagged along with the nice folks, and the nice folks often take crap simply for having the tag. You seem like a good enough sort, if a little arrogant. I'd res you :p

I remember Kith on live being easy once you just learned to walk way up high along the zone wall. Don't think I ever died. (Might of been one or two patrols that wondered up that you had to watch for, was it)
