I know, as a mage, I'm not the class to use it. Don't give a fuck. Just knowing people will be wearing this sexy graphic shield is enough <3

However, as a mage, Monster Summoning. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Monster Summoning.

Oh, the worst experience I can remember was when I was first exploring Thurg on my low 40's dwarf warrior, and while crossing the bridge, of course I hit that duchebag of a developer's idea of ice and slipped to the side, and then to the other side, and of course fell off the side. So there is a zone in to IK so nicely put there as to help poor fallen of the bridge noobs like me right? trying to get out I zoned in, and of course before I realized where I was, a golem and like 10 phoboplasm things skull F*cked me.

So after about 10 people wisely told me to get bent when asking for help in IK for CR, I get a rezzer to come to the ledge where the bridge was, but come to find out, that is the worst place to zone into, as he died also trying to rez me. Being not so smart I followed him into the zone in, and Apparently a golem was at the zone in still ( bugged maybe ) and killed me again and him on the spot. We eventually had to get a necro with coffins to summon us to the other entrance of the zone. All in all this whole process probably took 4-5 hours in the end, and was one of the worst CRs I can remember. I lost alot of exp also due to the timers expiring, and for a while was worried about my gear even. The really really sad part of this whole ordeal, was Instead of just asking a druid or something to port me out, I had to just poke my nose into IK lol.

That wasn't the last time I slid off of that bridge either! But I never was quite so foolish to zone into that side of IK again. Kromriff death squads got me at least a few times too, that run through Eastern wastes was awful. I had some fun times in Kael pulling on my monk, probably the funnest zone of all time for me, and I loved the faction and the armor quests too for monk, since Kunark didn't really have much to look forward to armor wise. ( Not that monks needed cobalt in kunark =D)

Funny thing though, I was telling my GF about this story, and her son was standing there listening. She said something that sort of struck me, and really goes back to why I think Everquest was so much better than most of the MMOs that are in existence. Everquest in many ways emulates being a kid, you touch the stove and burn yourself, you know not to touch the stove again. It burned, it hurt, but it healed and you suddenly are empowered by this new knowledge, and you can dust yourself off and go back into the world wiser. I think everquest scuffs the knee, burns the hand, just like being a kid does, but somehow unlike other MMOs I have played ( played over 20 other major MMOs over 12 years ) Everquest in the older "vision" days really had that sort of attitude similar to parents talking to their kids. You hated your parents for discipline, or thought they were idiots and didn't know crap about you, but really they were building you to be a good person and have morals, education etc. We can thank our parents now, just like Everquest in some ways with it's designers' attitudes of " this is working as intended, and doesn't need to be changed for a reason " sounded arrogant and not giving into the players wants....but what happens to games/children when you just give in to their wants? They become spoiled rotten.

This one day, me and my buddy stairs killed Lodi, I got a sweet turtle belt and a the 4th map peace. Later that day my guild went to hate and got our first Inny 1.5 kill I got some sweet halfing only 20 MR shoes that show my harry feet. Inny also dropped an Shattered Emerald of Corruption, I passed it to my pal as it completed her epic and i still needed to go to sky. Karma being on my side we pulled a few mini bosses and guess what, a 2nd Shattered Emerald of Corruption for yours truly ! What a great day it had been for this Halfling ranger. I decided i would camp out in Icecald to work on that dread pain in the ass Stormfeather, but guess what, when i got to his spawn point he was up !! A little more running around and BOOM, eye patch of plunder completed in half a day with a raid in the middle !

By far one of my fav days in Velious, Its funny because i remember it like yesterday....oh wait it did happened yesterday July 5th 2012.

Phase spider carapace, silver chitin handwraps, lodizal, ToV, necropolis, WW 6 manning dragons, shamans and necros soloing WW dragons, armor quests for 3 different factions, expansion is the shit.

Velks sucked blue hair dont care what anyone has to say to that.

Can you elaborate on how shamans and necro's solo WW dragons pls? And what the drops are that make doing so worth it.

I imagine they summon, so it seems like it would be quite difficult

Yes but they required keys or something.

brianvp

Great Divide key yeah. Iceclad was also a port in, but didn't require a key from what I remember but it might have. Then you could take the boat from Nro to Iceclad, and run through EW to get to GD.

The keys were basically just intended to make everyone walk through part of the expansion to venture the dangers, see the sights etc. They weren't really hard to get, but they took the key req out pretty fast after the launch.

*** Welcome to Luclin ***

"As you know, youngster, we of the League of Antonican Bards have made
it our primary goal to travel to places before others. It is our duty
to see what hasn't yet been seen and to make song of it when we return.
We carry news, song and spirit to all of Norrath. We have also taken it
upon ourselves to carry personal news in the form of letters wherever
possible. And that's what I've called you here to talk about.

- Velious portal teeth (Great Divide, Wakening Lands and Cobalt Scar)
are no longer required to teleport to those locations. These items are

Remember soloing dragons on my monk in ww by training quest giants that spawn over SG on their faces. Epic battles ensue and i would swing in, get a few hits and grab the loot.

My alts had exquisite velium weapons.

More lucky than exploit.

I didn't do much high end Velious stuff, but once while sitting outside Thurgadin a guild was doing one of the ring quests (final one?), which involved spawning a giant. They trained him on the guards, who took the bad boy down to about 50% health and finished him off. I was on my 35 ranger at that time, and I actually won the loot roll for some awesome sword off him with a perfect 100. Of course the guild didn't give it to me, but it was a good laugh at the time :)

So yeah, not exploit. Smart strategy IMO.

Just the first time my guild beat Sontalak and of all classes, there was only one person who survived. A ranger. Sontalak saying he must be careful not to squish people because they won't be crunchy or something was funny.

Then after weeks (months?) of telling my guild we could do NToV. We could handle it. We finally go and we did pretty well.

Yeah sontalak he was the testing halls boss, I remember him, killing him, and seeing nothing cause I had to stand behind a pole the whole time. I also remember failing on him like 2 or 3 times before getting it right. Soon as we got him down, other stuff became seemingly doable. Like 4 months later we downed statue after mastering vindi splitting/killing.

[Sat Jul 07 21:10:29 2012] You gain experience!!

tl;dr for the person who asked a question, if you have terrible luck, there are traps above the valley heading into Kael (from Eastern Wastes) which spawn 2-4 Kromrif Death Squad NPCs which are very resistant and hit in the 130-140 realm. The traps are PHers for an NPC for the 4th shawl quest.

Go go shawls... Side note, F Tailoring.

Also was doing the Coldain rings today, such a boss quest line. However it was bugged (and still is on Al'Kabor) since its creation making the 6th ring a pita to obtain.

Tower of Frozen Shadows is one of my favorite zones ever. It epitomizes the classic MUD "dungeon crawl". From collecting keys to avoiding traps, it makes for an interesting group experience. I loved crashing the monster wedding and making it to the top floor where Tserrina lives. Her robe had a pretty cool blue graphic that not a lot of players wore.

13 clerics? Did you sub clerics in and out as they had/lost mana or were you literally doing a >1CH/sec chain?

13 clerics? Did you sub clerics in and out as they had/lost mana or were you literally doing a >1CH/sec chain?

this was pre mod rod nerf, so the floor was covered in them, we had necros healing/twitching clerics, druids healing clerics, I can't remember the time interval. It would always fall apart when he was at 5% and every melee took a turn tanking for a couple seconds while we just healed whoever we could target.

13 Clerics doesn't mean you can't adjust the interval between.

There are 10 seconds per Complete Heal. The only reasons to run more than 10 clerics in a chain are to
A) have higher frequency than 1CH/sec
B) swap (or delay) clerics for mana conservation.

I touched on both reasons with my question.

Sorry, the original question had just looked like frequency or swap but no delay to me. Doesn't really matter.

I recall staying up half a night to run around Skyshrine. The zone was massive and I didn't really know where I was going but I had good faction from killing giants and loved the sesne of exploring.

I remember as others have mentioned the awesome classical dungeon crawl feel that you got with ToFS. I also remember hating those damn whirling dervishes that seemed to always key in on me when I was trying to med outside.
