I began playing just after velious was released and remember going into West Karana at some point early in my characters life and hunting here for a bit. One time i walked into the zone to see a ton of little "swarmlings". This is when I learned about the "swarm mother" and her little swarmlings that would pop (i remember her popping on top of the miller farm. Killing the swarm mother would grant a blue diamond. I also remember the sky being GREEN and someone shouting in the zone occasionally about some kind of disease? I think she popped in NK as well. Would there be any way to find out exactly what the deal was with her and to implement this into the game for a bit? I remember the lands being purified and the skies going back to normal and the swarm mother never popping again.

i was on the bertox server....was this the only server it was on? Or was it in reference to bertox the person possibly diseasing the area? this all took place early in my days so i just dont remember (woulda been 2001 when this was happening) this also went on for months....

No it happened on Quellious too. There was a giant (I'm talking larger than an actual giant) scarab beetle named the Swarm Queen too. mobs are listed on Alla in the graveyard. Was a part of the plague event. When the plague was 'cured' it was taken out.

That was one of the few special events that might be worth replicating here because a) it lasted for some months, and b) it killed off Cros Treewind, which is a welcomed cause for anyone who hunts in Qeynos Hills

The Swarm Queen dropped things like fire rubies, fire emeralds, ruby crowns.

The one I remember that's like this happened in Butcherblock. The newbie area was overrun with drakes. I remember buffing my wife snotty- that's how her main finally got off the ground (couple rerolls, this was the final main).

It would be really cool to see the plague event recreated on p99. Checked the dates from Allakhazam and it looks like the event ended in October 2001, so right before Luclin.

Does anyone know if the infestation of drakes (green and grey models, like in Steamfont) in Butcherblock was part of the overarching event discussed here? Or was that separate? I know the wife finally locked in on her main prior to the launch of Velious, and that as a newb this event was occurring. I know Kunark had been released, I had my jboots (got them at 40) and I was in my mid 40s...

I just remembered getting her to grind. She was L15 before leaving the newb zone or turning in her guild note.

Those swarmlings were murder. Huge aggro range and huge assist range. *shudder*

The Swarm Mother appeared alongside numerous A Swarmling while the Karanas were plagued. The Swarm Mother, along with her horde, disappeared when the Karanas were cleansed in the fall of 2001.

I can't recall for certain myself. But it ended shortly before Velious arrived. I wanna say it was out a good year before the plague was cured. But my memory sucks.

Makes me hate how expansion packs eventually were being delivered bi-annually to groans of suckitude.
