back around launch -> first couple months they surfaced a little bit (including a couple from p99! loool) but were quickly dealt with

Yep, other than the <150 pop, it's been the best quality vanilla-WoW server with the most long term consistency.

Feenix's Emerald Dream server has even been getting crapped all over by DDoS attacks lately it looks, with uncertainty when it'll stop.

From what I've seen, TheRebirth has been the best vanilla-WoW equivalent of what P1999 has done for EQ.

However, today suddenly the whole server, website, and forums are completely offline. This is the first significant outage I've ever seen (tho I've only been on it for a few months max), so no clue what's going on with it or where to find any communication from the owners.

Yep, it has been online for a whole year with 99.9% uptime; the biggest attack in the past resulted in a 30 minutes shutdown.
Which is why seeing how it has now been offline for a whole day is quite panicking. Even their Twitter feed halted: https://twitter.com/TheRebirth_WoW

And it looks like all of the other classic private servers are down, too!

This is a temporary home and website, I'm in the process of migrating our current site and forums, please be patient.

For those of you that have not found our facebook group, our twitter feed, or any of the other private servers enjoying the same complications, here's the rundown


On thursday afternoon, a large scale DDoS attack started to hit private servers internationally across the internet. So far most of the private servers I'm aware of have been brought down. Feenix and TheRebirth were able to stay up till Saturday afternoon, at which time, the attacks increased significantly.

Our host had no choice but to NULL route the IP address until the attacks ceased, which they did Sunday afternoon about 4:00pm. The forums, and the game servers were up for a short time before the DDoS attack begain again, at which time they were able to bring our host down to a crawl, forcing us to NULL route the IP again.

As I said on the forums, some of what makes great private servers..well...great, are also the same things that cause us serious problems in these scenarios. Having large enterprises hosts, with dedicated static IP addresses, static routes, firewalls, multiple server environments..etc, means we cant just reboot, or refresh or IP address...we have to sit and let a DDoS hammer on us, or attempt to mitigate the attack the best we can.

Our enterprise DDoS protection was able to scrub and provide clean traffic to the server for nearly 2 days, at which time the attacks went from 3 gigabytes / second to nearly 19 gigabytes / second, and nearly 500,000 packets per second, which is well beyond our threshold of mitigation.

At this time, we've received no threats, ransoms, or emails regarding the DDoS attacks, and we have no other information about why, or their origin.

We can say, that this will not break us, we will NOT be closing our doors, nor will the rebirth suffer any long term affects of this. As with all things of this nature, it shall pass, and we will come back as strong as ever.

I would highly advise players to steer clear of this server. Another Feenix hosted realm with the promise of a completely Blizzlike experience. To them, this means 1x rates across the board and no donations. What this also means, is that you are playing with the same poorly scripted if scripted at all encounters that the other two Feenix Vanilla servers offer.

I.E Razorgore's mind control doesn't work, so the raid DPS's an egg while the adds spawn..
