Many people had high hopes when EQ went Free to Play or for the progression servers. As a raider looking to unretire, I tried them out myself and found them both lacking. Limitations on Free to Play accounts were harsh (and SoE will get no more $$$ from me). Progression servers were fun, but competing for 10+ year old content no longer appeals.
I've found a new option that has revitalized EQ for me. A progression guild working its way through content on the Everquest Test Server has many benefits:
Free accounts are fully unlocked on Test Server.
Ability to /testcopy old characters to Test from any EQ server.
Double Experience and /testbuff make catching up painless.
Our guild, The Faceless Order, is currently in Luclin era. We're working on Emp Ssra, Seru, and Aten Ha Ra. We limit ourselves to levels and gear approiate to the expansion. Once our progression targets fall we move on to the next era to conquer greater challenges.
It is our goal to provide a fun and friendly atmosphere for players looking to re-experience the glory days of Everquest without the timesink of endless competition or having to devote countless hours of their lives to the game just to stay apace.
If you are interested check us out at our website here (http://thefacelessorder.com/).

I have a feeling if this picks up steam SOE will make Test have the same restrictions as live. Doesn't seem right.

I agree w/ Diggles...Once the population increases they'll shut it off.

OP just trying to troll progression servers on live since you need to have a gold subscription(paying sub) to even play on the progression server. So not sure how he tried it out and didnt like it if he didnt give SoE anymore money.

A few friends from P99 and I tried out the Vulak progression server briefly. I used one of their accounts so none of my $ went to Sony. Though if I had loved it there not sure what I would've done long term.
Fortunately I've found Test server which is a great fit on many levels.

Seru and Emp Ssra has fallen to our raid crew of level 60s. We're now averaging more than 40 raiders a night and really on a roll. Next stop Vex Thal.

With Aten Ha Ra joining the other Luclin raid encounters on our conquest list, we have turned out sights on the Planes of Power. The self-imposed level cap has risen to 65 and members have spread far and wide to knock out new levels and AAs.
Our raid numbers are solid, but we're looking to strengthen them further to help meet the new Planes of Power raid challenges. Reinstalling is fast and painless, so come check us out. You won't regret it!

One crazy week into PoP progression and The Faceless Order has already dropped Tallon Zek, Vallon Zek, Bertoxxulous, Agnarr, Mithaniel Marr, Terris Thule and Manaetic Behemoth among others. Seru, Emp, and Vex Thal are still yielding valuable gear upgrades for the tougher challenges to come.
If you have an old 65+ character on Live, you can /testcopy over to Test Server and be raiding with us in no time. Full time double XP, hotzones, and /testbuff 25 mean even players starting out fresh can be experiencing Planes of Power within days of joining Test.

Hi Sebb! Greynth here! Miss you guys, but school picking up big time+5am workouts every morning don't allow for much play time. Hopefully I'll get back soon

I took part in a progression guild on Test in '07
it was Unintended Consequences and then its restart Intended Consequences
and it was awesome! It was so cool reliving all that content without
all the hassle and rigamarole. The updated zones from Prophecy of Ro were
my only gripe because they are fugly and not as I remembered them of course
(having been gone from EQ from 2003 until I came back for that progression guild)
Just today I installed my Platinum edition with the express intent of fooling around
on Test again, where my best ever toons are but I couldn't get it to patch in.
It would update the patcher but it wouldn't keep going.
I didn't have or want to take the time to fiddle with it then but I am assuming since
you're posting about playing on Test that things must be working. I'll have to check around and see if Sony's page has any insight into my problem

Hi Greynth! I was wondering where you disappeared to. School is important, we'll be around whenever your schedule opens back up.
Heavydrop, if I'm not mistaken we already have some folks from Unintended Consequences and Intended Consequences in guild. As to your patching issues, Sony is trying to test out a change right now. Test has been up and down a few times as a result. This might be why you had troubles patching.
Dredge, to install all you need to do is download the EQ Launchpad and run it. When you run it for the first time, it'll patch everything in. The website to download Launchpad is https://launch.soe.com/everquest/
To find old characters (assuming you have the account info), all you need to do is remember the name of the server they were on. The merged servers now go by both names, so if you were on Veeshan server that was merged with Luclin, the server list will now show a Luclin-Veeshan server.
With Rallos Zek taking a fall, The Faceless Order has now opening all Elemental Planes but Fire. Our attention has turned to Sol Ro, as gearing up continues for Rathe Council and beyond.

Piff - Test server is free (and free gold status) but it is not on the normal server list. After you have done /testcopy to copy any old characters you want onto Test, select Game Version in the launch pad, switch it from "Live" to "Test" and click apply. There will be about 2 minutes of patching to sync your files with Test Server, then you can click play like normal and log into Test.

Sol Ro and Fennin have now been conquered. Last night in an epic 91 minute battle, we took down Xegony. Only Rathe Council and Coirnav remain between The Faceless Order and Plane of Time.
Anyone interested, come check out TheFacelessOrder.com or just swing by Test Server.

After some gut-wrenchingly close attempts on The Rathe Council, it has finally fallen to our raid team. The overgrown calamari that is Coirnav has now fallen to. The Faceless Order has now entered the loot candy store that is Plane of Time.
Come, join us for the sugar high.

Doesn't matter if they (moderators) delete my thread. The point I am trying to make is that P99 is absolutely dead if Live makes a new classic server. If the rumor is true....then fuck all this backdoor paypal transaction bullshit and corruption.

Anyone stupid enough to go back to more SOE bullshit deserves what they (are eventually going to) get. What an obvious attempt to poach people; you getting a commission or something? Or just have a bad memory? Enjoy your gingerbread man merc.

Seems the thread got a bit derailed by some info that has since been removed?
Anyways, Quarm down to The Faceless Order. We're hitting revamped Veeshan's Peak and soon to be dabbling in LDoN raids while we wait on Plane of Time lockout timers to expire. We're averaging over 50 at raids right now, but more are always welcome.
