I remember there used to be an escrow service from Bob and Hagglebaron/Trade Federation. And I assume they were there for a reason.
I had someone say that buyer always goes first and seller goes second when I tried to purchase an account recently and wouldn't budge on me going first. Not even half up front then half after I get the info. I've bought all three of the characters I own, and thats how I usually wanna do it and haven't had a problem. Then he said that GM's will help in fraudulent account sales. So I guess if the trade went bad a gm would switch it over.
But I feel like thats not the case or why else would Hagglebaron and Bob do the escrow service if there was never any risk involved.
Anyone know if GM's will get your money or account back if a sale goes bad?
Or could a GM respond and let it be known and state/sticky it somewhere
I thought I remember somewhere a gm stating they won't help you
I've been trying to dig through rules and other situations like this but can't up with much in search.

It's at your own risk, I sold my old account and used the Trade Fed guys as a mediator to make sure it all went smoothly. Obviously they take a small cut, are they still around?
Do you and the seller have a mutual contact who you both trust? It's easy for someone to scam, and understandable why one side won't trust the other...if there's no escrow service now I'd say someone should get one started again.

As far as I know GMs do not assist in these ordeals. You trade the plat and seller screws ya then ur just SoL. I may be wrong but most people I've heard talk about it say this is how it is.

No we didn't and it ended up apparently he said going to another buyer that had a bid close to mine and was willing to give it all up front. He wouldn't budge on the half and half thing so I just let it go. But he kept saying don't worry gm's will help if it goes bad. It just seemed incredibly sketchy and I wasnt about to hand over 220k so I passed on the account.
Just seemed wierd, he was on his unguilded never heard of account and I'm on my TMO main, willing to show him my other alts in TMO, I use my character name as my forum handle. I'm not gonna ruin my reputation to get one more characters. But he wouldnt budge so oh well.
Escrow would have been nice and I would have paid for it. I was literally thinking of starting an escrow service up before I posted this thread since no one does it anymore. I just wanted to see if GM's would get involved first.

You could always use a respected guild member for the escrow services assuming the person selling the account trusts that person as well. I know of a few VD players who bought characters and Coldblooded provided the escrow services and I do not remember any complaints about any of those trades.

I always help my friends with transfers. Its hard to build a rep big enough to get random people to ask you for help though. I've even transferred pre nerf fungi staffs and been given access to an account that has one. I'm always willing to help if anyone needs it.

And all of VD for that matter.

What helped Hagglebaron and Citizen Bob was their threads got stickied as well. So they were always at the top and it looked pretty legit.
Not sure if that still happens but someone needs to do it lol

I ran into a situation similar to this. Luckily when I sold my character the guy gave me the money up front. So it made it easy for me. When it came to buying the rogue epic it wasn't so easy. I had to pay up front. And wouldn't have unless I was certain the guy was in a high end guild or somebody that had something to lose by scamming me. Turned out he was in a good guild and once I figured that out it was pretty easy from there on out.
There really needs to be a service in place for this. A trustworthy person with a good reputation. Not just characters but any items. Items you may want on another character. Need transfer help. Things like that as well.

Ya I have had instances like this too, but it's 500-1k pp, or a couple measly items. I have never had someone come up to me and say hey hold this Crimson Robe of Alendine for me.

You gotta log onto the character and get someone else to transfer the money while you're on the account you're buying.
It's pretty much the only way, that way, if you go to change the email/passwords and you can't, you can delete the shit out of that toon before you walk away.
Edit:
I'd do escrows ( I've done some in the past for people ) if i were still around. I even did a couple million PP transfers and no telling how many 100-700k transfers for people (some I knew, most I didn't)
Apparently, being a dick is a good way for people to think you won't take their stuff lol

This is idea is both excellent and hilarious.
Additionally, I thought I'd try to provide this service (http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=84267) due to the apparent need.
We'll see! Safe trading to you all, friends.

Unless things have changed, account transactions are conducted at your own risk. Bob is gone for now, and I am on a sporadic play schedule, but I still arrange to conduct escrow at certain times via pm. Shoot me a message if you wish to make something happen (search my thread history to see my escrow thread for customer feedback and information regarding the service, or just search for it in the east commonlands forum section).
Tricky sounds legit to me as well. I don't know him personally, but if Zeelot and Loly trust him (he is in TMO) then he's alright in my books
Cheers

Its at CSR's discretion I believe, but they can restore gear/characters, but they have flatly stated they will not support (nor condemn) account transfers. Theoretically, the original owner could get anything destroyed back after he steals your PP, the server rules are set up in that fashion (enforcement is a separate issue).
