When I saw the patch note, I thought, "Whatever, no big deal." Sense Heading button really sucks in comparison.

Thats ok IF you have room for a Sense Heading button. Just like people are saying, OH just put your pet command on buttons.

There are only so many buttons without having to go to the next set which is not a rapid option when 4 mobs are heading your way.

Just put it on a hidden button and bind it to the same key as Left and Right.

Removing the compass really makes no difference at all, everyone needed to raise their Sense Heading to get it to work anyway.

The Titanium UI permits having multiple sets of hotkeys available on-screen at the same time. I believe it allows up to four sets of 10. Not many players should be running out of space.

Tasslehof: There are entire zones that I've never even stepped foot in, and I know I'm not alone. While lack of a compass or map is no great issue for me, some other folks (such as my wife) have more trouble.

Then it spams your window all the time. No Thanks. I have played this game long enough I really don't need the compass. But if you are new to this game the compass and Pet UI helps a lot. Thats the beef I have. And it just makes less and less people want to play pet classes between the pet nerf and this UI thingy.

I mean why don't we make this game so damn hard it takes 3 months to get to level 15. It damned near did in live at the start. I wouldn't be here if I was against all the stuff going on. But this game needs new people to survive and I don't think the last 2 patches have helped that cause.

i am too lazy and have NEVER skilled sense on any of my chars I suggest using what I have been using sinse day 1
http://wiki.project1999.org/Compass
I sell these for 5k each hit me up ingame

on a funny irony note. I finally caved from complaints by people who play phat sometimes and dumped pretty much all of my training points including about 200p in training into sense heading literally the day before the patch.

Pet UI still working, be glad for that. Sense heading still has its uses, just bind it to another hotbutton page and shift+that page for quick use.

Just bind a hotkey for it and you don't have to faff around shifting hotbutton pages.

Or bind it to Move Back if you don't want much spam from it, or Left and Right if you want it constantly updating.

Alt+O then go to the Keys tab. You should be able to do it from there.

Could just google: [zone name] "map eq" and the map you need to find your way around can usually be found at the top of the search results. On the map, north = up and obviously south = down. Why do people even use sense heading or a compass? Oh theres /loc too which can tell you your heading.

I've been trying to bind 'hotbar 4' or whatever keys and I am not having any success. Are these binds disabled on p99? I don't really have room for it on my main hotkey bars

Does your UI have all those hotbars? I don't remember if they all do or not. But you should be able to bring it up through the big EQ button in the interface. Or you can bind a key to show/hide it from the options window.

I just don't understand how removing the compass adds anything to the game. Especially when we have mechanics in place that are blatantly non-classic (massive variance times). Having a classic server is great, and its why we are all here, but what is the point of repeating all the mistakes from classic as well? Why don't we all go back to staring at our spell book and using dial up to really round out the experience.

As a player who didn't understand crap about this game at live when I was a kid and returning now, without serious knowledge of 75% of the zones and many I never set foot into, this is a harsh blow for me which won't be enough to have me quit but it's a disappointment. I absolutely understand the "This is not classic." thing going on, and I'm OK with missing maps for example. But the Compass wasn't doing much harm to those who want a classic classic experience, they can just hide it. And for the losers we noobs are, it's a bit of a deal breaker.

I have the nostalgia with me which will let me overlook such disappointments, but I can see how it would be a no-no for a new player having no maps and no compass either. Just my 2 cents, I very rarely post in spite of religious forums reading, and I know noone cares, but wanted to agree, please give it back ;)

Put sense heading on a hotbar

Alt O

Press Keys

Select category=Hotbar 1 (or whichever you put it on 2, 3 etc)

Right click 'alternate' that correlates to the position you put sense heading in (ie if its the 1st slot on the 1st hotbar right click Hotbutton 1 'alternate'

press D or whatever you use for left/right or whatever you want really. It will appear red thats fine

Problems with this, and they are not insignificant:

1) Spams your window.
2) Takes up space.

Hey, the guy wanted to know!

Besides you don't have to bind it to a movement key (useful to max it) there are many others to choose from that wont spam, but yes it takes a slot.

You can always put the sense heading spam into a different window.. and close it >.<. Also - as someone who played classic with no compass and blah blah thrown into a game with little to no reference.... I still have my binders full of old school hard copy EQ atlas maps... and yes I do still use them. Yes taking the compass out made it more classic, no it's not a huge deal to work around it - here are a couple ways to find your direction without the UI compass. Buy the item "A compass" - they're sold all over. Drop a weapon on the ground - it always points north.

Finally my best suggestion is to bind sense heading to a movement key, filter the chat to a new chat window and minimize it if the spam really bothers you, and get used to it =). As a newb back in the day I remember spending no less than 2 hours getting from gfay to the bb docks. It's just the way it was.... // sense heading + reference map = better than UI compass //

Also have people forgotten how to use /location ?

I understand both sides of the argument, and this isn't a big blow to my playstyle.

However... it just seems petty, like spell sets. Yeah they're not classic, but hindsight tells us they are nice to have.

If I could keep one non-classic feature, it would be spell sets and the right-click spell interface. Gawd I hate having to actually keep the spellbook organized.

Don't you have to have these hotkeys set up the same exact way on all your chars? The key bindings doesn't appear to be character-based.

bulbousaur
09-25-2012, 11:26 AM
Yes the bindings are across all. Careful, I had send heading on a hotkey on one character, with ranged attack on that hotkey on another. I accidentally attacked an NPC twice before i figured out that my sense heading key was causing me to attack =(

Just stick Sense Heading at position 0 on Hotbar 4, so it doesn't get messed up with anything.

Tried to do that only problem is I can't get the Hotbar 2 to pop. I created a shortcut to do so 'N' but nothing happens when I try to make it pop. Anyone has had this issue as well? Thanks.

lol, chucked my maps when I bought the PDF, which died with some forgotten disk drive.

Still, Sense Heading and /loc are plenty when you don't already know the landmarks, loss of compass is just an annoyance really, not a handicap. (And the in-game compass item seems pretty worthless, waste of time.)

fact is rogean doesnt play on this server

fact is rogean gets a sick sense of power in makin these seemingly minute and small changes knowing full well he is just making this already TEDIOUS as fuck game even more tedious and annoying by doing this

yea no compass is not such a huge deal but the real issue is the devs ongoing power trip (esp. rogean who admittedly doesnt give 2 shits about this server)

so this is basically devs way of saying FUCK YOU hope you like it this is FREE better not complain

so touche. fuck you devs

I dunno about you, but when I'm doing anything other than nothing at all, having to alt+rightclick or rightclick+hold and find the correct line to read in a damned popup item description window that obscures a significant chunk of screen is pretty much worthless. Nevermind having to keep a bag open (or worse use an entire inventory slot.) Sense Heading is mildly annoying when it fails even at 200 skill (and courtesy of the absolutely horseshit RNG here seemingly half the time failures are repeated :sigh: ) In comparison, the in-game compass item is crap, junk, garbage, & etc. not worth the space it takes up in a bag. Relying on it is a good way to die and lose your corpse while you're at it. It's bad design, brought to you by the creatorrs of the hybrid xp penalty and cultural armor boots that won't kick half the mobs in the game.

/loc on a hotkey all by its lonesome is far better than the in-game compass.

Oh, btw, did I mention that I find the in-game compass item to be pretty much worthless?
