Well hello there.
I played regular EQ from the beginning to GoD, then it went from fantasy to sci-fi in my opinion.
After walking to work today and thinkin back about the golden days of this lovely game, it came to my mind that this server actually do exist, so today i installed and just logged in.
I got a few questions to you all, if thats ok.
How is it with europeans on this server? any guilds? any euro-time groups at all?
How far along are you guys in Velious? Sleeper awakened? Vulak'Aerr dead?
Any tips and trix about anything? I've always had a hard time leveling, so i had with the old school EQ as well, will i be able to overcome this and actually reach 60 ? or is it just as slow as i remember?
Oh well, im currently leveling a monk named Risingfist, feel free to add me to friends, and dont be afraid to send a tell or two, the thing i loved most with EQ was its community, social and kind. :D
Love, Nic

Welcome.e to the server mate! One important thing is that we are still in Kunark at the moment, no eta on Velious so there is plenty of time to get caught up. As far as Euroguilds, there is only 1 that is dedicated Euro, but many like The Mystical Order or Bregan D Aerth field players in every time zone. The Euro times wont be as busy as US, but it is still healthy.
Shoot me a tell on Darkmannx, Arkanjil, or Saratoga if you ever need help with something and I will help if I can. :)
Welcome again!

1. Euros? Not sure.
2. Velious hasn't been released yet.
3. This server is supposed to reflect the classic ruleset, so it should be approximately as slow as you remember. Your playstyle will probably have the same result here as it did then.
Welcome!

I believe there is 1 euro guild, Europa.
The server's population peaks between maybe 0100 and 0700 gmt, but it isn't bottomed out during primetime in Europe either, so there are groups to be had for sure.
Velious isn't even on the server yet. Probably won't be for at least 6 months.
Xp is going to be as slow as you remember, more or less. My advice is to find a few people who you like to chat with and spend most of your XP time duo or trio.

Welcome. There are a lot of europeans on at night time, EST for me, nearly as many as on in the daytime. And yes there are euro giulds. No top end ones that I know of.
Velious is not out yet. only Devs know when. Suppose to be a Beta out first. I suspect Christmas time??
And yes, you will level slow as heck here compared to live. A lot of classes and races have the XP penality and on some it is a killer. Even a Human Monk has a 20% XP penality. Iksar is 44%. Need to get to EC tunnel and get good buffs. Helps a ton to get to say level 10. Good gear helps but the biggest thing is having a good weapon. Even for a Caster. You need to be able to farm for spells.
Speaking of farming HQ Bear Hides, Bone Chips, and Spiderling Silk are the top 3 at low levels. Greater Light Stones are nice vender plat at little higher levels.
If you want to get to level 60 pick one toon and play the crap out of it. Can't have 5 alts and make 60 in any good time. even then will take forever to get there. Hardly and class but a Bard is easy to level up fast Solo. Maybe a Necro. Pet Nerfs have really hurt pet classes. But play what class you enjoy not what is maybe the best.

The so called "pet nerf" is not there anymore, already for a long time, as far as i know. I play pet classes and i dont feel them. BTW: Here is the Patch-Note, unnerfing pets.

Thank you for all the answers, i was pretty sure Velious was released already!
My main will probably be Risingfist, my human monk, which i will play 100% if i dont come to mind with another class i rather play.
Are there many monks out there?
Considering i just got a baby with my GF and working at the same time this is not going to go fast at all haha, but i'll work on it at my own timeline, its going to take the time it takes, hopefully i can reach maxlvl before Velious, considering i loved Velious most of all expansions and really wanna experience it again as much as i can. :)
Catch ya all in game, im now going to be killing Decaying skeletons for a staff or 2! Hai-ya!

Monks are pretty common, although if you are a GOOD monk, people (the ones you want to be hanging around, anyways) will notice.

There are some but not loads, Euro players who don't get as much of a chance to play in the evenings are left to solo or try and get something started themselves more often than not. Around 6pm UK time it starts to pick up so groups are easier in the evenings for us.
There's < Europa > as a guild, but they tend to be fairly quiet. A better option (sorry, Europa) is probably to find a guild with a healthy player base from the ones you see around a lot as you play.
The European players have no strength here really as a unit which is a shame, we're just dotted around in various guilds.

I lol'd
Europa is an elder P99 but atm pretty small casual guild of Euro time players, slowly regaining energy from diablo 3 cut and summer break.
Friendly and mostly adult (ancient age isn't a requirement though ;) ) people here helping and grouping with each other.
We are getting new (mostly) Euro people atm, who level up.
Fun stuff will happen with gained levels of our members as soon as possible.
Send me (Schande, Bier) a tell ingame if you want to know more.

Still, is that how the pet rules are now? Thats what matters...
As long as caster do 1pt of damage pet doesn't take any XP?. If you fail to do 1pt dmg pet takes 75% of the XP. Is this how it is currently?

If soloing, you need to do at least 51% as it stands currently, if the pet does over 50% he decides he was awesome and takes half the XP.
As a workaround (for some levels at least), necros can recoup the final 20%'ish damage by medding, letting dots alone kill the snared mob and backing the pet off.
Terrible, but that's the situation. If you're in a group then it doesn't apply.

Swish stated it very well. Try doing 51% damage on a Mage mob after mob. Maybe a reason there is like 10 Mages that solo any more. But now you know.

Where are the patch notes after the patch notes that i posted where it got reverted back from being reverted back?
From my experience with my pet classes it looks like you only need to do 1 damage to get full xp. I admit that i can be wrong about it as i my experience is just from how it feels to me, didnt do any xp parsing.

There is something in the library section of the forums in one of the server FAQs that actually says pets eat 3/4 of xp if you don't outdamage them.

Definately not true. My mage always did only a tiny amount of damage while he had a yellow pet. Yet XP was really really flying. From 4 to 7 in about 3 hours, solo without any twink gear. No other class that i leveled has been that fast. And i NEVER outdamaged my pet.

I just wish to hell a Dev would get on here and explain it. This debate has been going on for over a year. Is it 50% or 75%, or something in between? I suspect it is 50%.
I think we can all pretty much agree on having to do 51% damage now for full XP. And it does seem to go away in a group as long as someone does some damage. And no you can't be in different zones anymore it seems.

Shouldn't this be pretty easy to figure out? Go somewhere and kill something that will give a few percent worth of xp with a known level. Then, kill it again with pet and only doing a little amount of damage personally. If it gives the same percent of xp, then there's your answer.

The mechanic is as follows: if you're solo and your pet outdamages you, it will steal 50% of the experience for that kill.
