View Full Version : Items taken out of the game

Any chance that they get put back in? I don't understand the reasoning beyond "it's classic deal with it". Can someone give me a good reason why to not put them back in. Some people have the items. If they are gamebreaking, no one should have them. Flame away!

Deal with it
I'll just have to deal with it, in dark elf form, at my bindpoint in td. :3
This thread could have purpose though--what are priority items in velious? BFG the obvious answer, but not a cleric item so inherently worthless ^_^

Furthermore, it's a matter of status. I'm still 100% pro taking away Korrath's trolly mask, obviously not classic ~
But that's probably just bitterness talking :3

I can't understand why rubicite was taken out. Its a crap armor stat wise, but it would be awesome to see ct with 20+ in the zone. I miss the old old days of ct, was an awesome zone back in the day! and if guise was put back in, guk would be heaven! ;)

Sorry, new to the server. Can one not currently bind at the pots in TD?

No you can't bind at pots in TD any longer. Was only possible a short time a while ago.

I think only melee classes should be able to bind at the pots in TD with an NPC added that will sow you. Main reason you would go there is because you are on a corpse run anyhow. Or better yet, just allow melee classes to bind anywhere like casters can.

putting these kind of items back in the game would represent the fundamental change in mmo design that this server was established to escape. so theres that.

Definition of trolling: with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response.
Actually no I am not trolling, but it appears some people are emotional about their pixels. My primary intent of being here is re-experiencing EQ. And for the most part, I am having a blast, even get to experience douchebaggery which I could have done without experiencing again. You would think everyone would be kinder, slower paced, not into blocking content, but the same thing happens here that happened back in 1999. But, there is hope, some people are kinder and slower paced than what they were back then. And for that I am grateful. Hopefully all the elitist jerks go away.

I was hoping for the same. A little more community would go a long way.
The reality is that Project 99 is a haven for people who didn't have the financial or intellectual means to be territorial scum during the classic era. It's free, largely unregulated and consumes huge amounts of free time.
Think of the demographic that this kind of environment attracts.
It's the equivalent of a digital swamp. Well-meaning people may stop in and visit and appreciate the landscape, but you can't escape the fact it's full of shitty mosquitoes.

Probably a *much* better idea would be to open a 2nd progressive server from scratch and let everyone start all over again (if they'd like). Give people something new to do while Veilous is still in the distance. :)
Then people could start at level 1 all over again, work toward getting their abu boxes, guises, mana stones, etc. Build up their new raid guilds, new chance to chase after dragons and planes and what not.

Raven, that is, simply put...a stupid idea. I hope your idea never sees the light of day on p99.
Hai guyz, I think id be kewlz if klerics could have magi petz n necros could charm da koboldz cuz it would be me total giggle n would be kewlz. Also, give druidds wingsis n shamanz shud turn into spirits with twilight sparkelz!
Obviously, you never played on live because any non-bind caster was never allowed to be bound "anywhere"...

Or for many people, such as myself:
- we were 10 or 11 years old when eq was released
- it was our first online game of any type, let alone "MMORPG"
- we had absolutely NO IDEA what we were doing for the first YEAR or so of playing
Now we're here on p99 to see/accomplish/relive the content that we either missed or was our favorite the first go round.
So, you fit in the category of those who hooked up p99 to 'appreciate the landscape', as I put it. If the swarms of nagging insects don't bother you, that's excellent.

have the gm's done anything similar to the event when kunark was released and a rare chance to loot a guise, manastone etc? If not do you think they will when velious is released?

When Uth was GMing he had frequent events where people could win/loot guises. I remember seeing one event by Rogean when Uth left in one of the Karanas where people were able to loot guises.
They used to happen but the team doesn't really have the time/interest to do it anymore it seems.

If everyone had one it wouldn't be cool. Once you're sitting there in your group and everyone is a dark elf, you'll realize how stupid of an idea it was.

Thanks for all the replies. I still haven't seen a good reason. The devs have stuck to keeping it classic flaws and all. So there is that reason, whether it is good or not is debateable.

I always thought the appeal of guises was that your ogre/troll warrior/sk/sham didn't have to be large and ugly. Other than those 3 classes, I think most people pick a race they don't mind looking at, so they don't need a guise.

There is a reason I will never be a Dwarf, worst looking race in the game. Great stats for the classes they can be, but I just can't bring myself to playing because of the looks. As far as playing in third person, I mostly stay in first person, but would switch to third person when I need to see things around me. Or when chasing a fleeing mob, I can't tell you how many times I've gotten turned around when the NPC does an instant 180 turn on me... so much easier to see where they went if I am in third person.

Anyone who doesn't is just making the game harder than it has to be. And I'm not talking about that mouse wheel scroll third person bullshit either. Use F9/INSERT/DELETE/ALT+UP/DOWN/ALT+PAGEUP/PAGEDOWN like someone who actually played EQ before 2004, doing otherwise is just embarrassing yourself. I'm going to submit a bug report on mouse wheel 3rd person now.

That's why I never used 3rd person back then... makes sense. I didn't realize the mouse scroll to third person was something new.

scroll out to 3rd is the only way to go, before i had a scroll mouse back in the day it was 100% 1st person sans the f9 to look at my sexy self.
although now with my epic and shit thats mostly what I do when I am logged on "look at my sexy self and my sexy pixles"

When Kunark came out there seemed to be a number of GM events where Guises, Manastones, and Thex Daggers were dropping. I would be all for more GM events that revive these older items.
We can say we are holding classic timeline for removing items, but expansions come slower and by design will stop coming altogether, right? In the end are we stuck in perpetual "day before Luclin" release forever? That's not classic either :P

I like the idea of the server not progressing any further past Velious. Eventually the big raiding guilds will get bored and leave the server to all us casuals.

3rd person view is one of the reasons i dont enjoy new MMORPG's next to UI's,gameplay etc. First person all the way always.

3rd person camera and char control is horrible in EQ. If you played something like EQ2 or WoW just for a little bit, you realize how smooth their camera controls are, and how cumbersome and clumsy your char feels in 3rd person in EQ.
However with SoD+ expansions EQ1 has greatly improved camera/3d person controls
