View Full Version : Do Paladins need a Haste item?

Can Paladins skip on Haste when using a 2h or is it a good idea to get a Haste item for them, such as SoulFire?

And at what level does a Paladin start to benefit more from 2h than 1h/shield?

unless your weapon has a delay of like 10 - its always good to have haste - the more the better.

2h vs 1h all depends on ratio of a specific weapon. keep in mind the dmg cap before level 20

SoulFire's ratio is 23/50 I believe.

1. Every melee wants haste, although Bard probably gets the least value out of it and could get away with skipping it.
2. Soulfire is a terrible weapon at this stage of the game, think of it as a required step for your epic and equip something more effective.

If you want to use 2hander get Baton of Faith (30/40 2hb, cheap in EC, see it for 150 often.) If you can afford a decent 1hander and shield that's even better (shield ac helps a lot tanking, knight defensive skills don't get fixed until velious.)

Once you can afford it, get a haste belt. You want the added agro as a tank, so many ridic monk & rogue twinks running around, every bit of agro helps.

Kay, and I take it Dwarves are the best Paladins overall, stay-wise?

As someone who has a rogue he plays sometimes +1

Its just as frustrating as a rogue as it is for a tank for the rogue to end up tanking (not blaming or griping here) because the tank can't hold aggro

1. Half-Elf is by far the best-looking Paladin, and frankly, nothing matters more.
2. Erudite can use Shield of the Stalwart Seas, plus their men are manly enough to wear skirts without being self-conscious about it.
3. Human male gets a couple of fantastic 'stache choices, females look almost sexy enough to be Half-Elfs.
4-5. Dwarf and High-Elf squabble over the scraps under the table.

Only human I like is the one with the eyepatch.

You forgot the pointy shoes

WTH? you edited your partial quote of my post to replace the 100% correct "their" (possessive) with the hopelessly inappropriate "they're" (contraction of "they are")? I DEMAND A RETRACTION!!!

Also, @brony-pal, eye patches are so 1998. Nobody wears eye patches anymore. The 'stache is where it's at, the creepier the better.

So the Dwarf Paladins are horrible choices with their stats and racial benefits?

if you have to ask, then your heart is not into it.
Dwarf stats are great.
But I would never make one - its a matter of principle. I would make either human paladin - cause its classic, or high elf, cause they cool, despite pretty horrible stats for melee. But I would be fine with that cause I like the looks.

If you trying to min/max, then consider this: In high end game stats maxed out so quickly that the only REAL choice people have to make is between stun immunity of Ogre or extra AC/regen in Velious for Iksar. And this only concerns classes like war, sk or shaman. For any other class it doesn't matter what you make, as long as you like how it looks ;)

Well then the choice for me is a Human Paladin with the eyepatch. Same for the Monk. I like eyepatches and well-groomed beards.

Dwarves get the best starting pool stats out of every available race.

Humans + Half-Elves come second (added half elven bonus of Karana worshipers, they get Natures Defender , hands down THE best looking 2handed sword in Velious era and on par with epic but a lot easier to complete --- Humans on the other hand get a semidecent but procless 1h sword out of their Sky quests)

High Elves / Erutides get the shaft statwise, their only bonus is ND for Karana high elves, and Erutides start with good enough faction with Deepwater Knights for the Fiery Defender.

Haste--

-=) Do you NEED haste to maintain aggro? No, our aggro management (much like our counterpart the SKs) comes from spell threat generation coupled by awesome weapon procs (Sword of Morning , get it, love it) and not from pure DPS (we can't dps ourselves out of a wet paperbag at this point).

-=) Should you GET haste if you can? Of course you should, every little bit counts into making your life easier, it will help you solo(lololol) if/when you can, though learn to play the damned class and groups will worship you.

Why should you use a Sword&Shield over a 2handed in groups?
- Bash interupts casting and also stuns the mob for half a second or so (when/if it lands though)
-- Arguably Sword+Shield will offer you a lot better stats than any 2hander out there at the moment bar epic or raid drops (Sharnak Battle Shield + Sword of Morning can last you all the way till you can finish your epic or score a Sword of Rile :p )
--- Our DPS is sub-par.
---- Even if you decide to use a 2handed for group tanking purposes, always have a shield in an easy accessible spot in your bags, weapon swapping here takes only as much as your mouse clicks.
----- Paladin only 1handers are dirty cheap and can carry you all the way. Ghoulbane will outdmg ANY two handed from the level that it starts to proc and all the way to high 30s if you stick to fighting undead mobs (Unrest till mid 30s, then Lower Guk can take you all the way to 60 if you so want). Also, their procs are quite awesome.
------ Our DPS sucks ass.

Paladins & Solo : Dafuq? Depends on twinking in lower levels I guess, higher levels it's groups all the way.
Paladins & Groups : Along with SKs, they are the best tanks. Awesome threat generation, back-up heals, Ressurection (at 59 though), roots, CC and camp splitting (lull spell line), stuns, IVU. Paladins can also pull for AoE groups.
Paladins & Raids : Eat a DT, kite some shit around, fight evil bastages (opposing guild) for FTE, sacrifice yourself for FTE, kite some shit around, eat a DT. Pick one of the above.

Hybrid penalty sucks donkeyballs, yes -- but play the class well, and the group will get faster (and not to mention safer) exp with you than with some other less optimal tank.

Does Fiery Avenger or Defender have the ability to use Bash without a shield?

It's Tunare not Karana that gets the ND in Velious.
