all new games suck

they are all about investment vs return , and they will suck until they are made by people who love games.

Anyways I'm giving darkfall a shot, open pvp with full looting, non-instanced world? Surprised more people here wouldn't try it, but then again no im not.

Yea but if you believe people that are into it they say its a ton better. So much different they cant even keep the old characters because the game systems are so different. Not saying it wont still suck, but its worth at least an install.

I'm going to give it a shot as well. I understand if you are strapped for cash being a little nervous about it but that isn't an issue for me. I have no idea if it is going to be good either but what the developers are trying to do is exactly what I want in a game.

I said it would be a turd wrapped in a piece of shit

I mean, i played original for 4 months, its not all that bad

What is the shit im talking about, is how shady aventurine/Tasos are with how they treat their players and how they care 0 about lying to people to make money

Im gonna wait 2-3 weeks and if feedback is not utterly terrible i might consider giving it a try

Ill be trying the game out once it goes live since I have already purchased darkfall 1. Tasos is a POS but so was Brad and eq classic was awesome for two expansions afterwards so I have some hope for the game.

Right but Darkfall was just a shell of a skeleton of a sandbox

You could see that there could be potential, but nothing more

To me anyway

I'm having a lot of fun in the beta. Very different from the first one, combat is a little weird -- need to have more of it to get a real opinion. Safe zones are somewhat annoying but I found out that you need to get away from them to get some real good fights.

Beta has been a blast, but its easy to enjoy games early on.

I can't say whether it will be worth playing 1-2 months after launch, but for now its been very enjoyable. PvP all the time everywhere and lots of cool stuff to explore. I have lots of beefs with the game like how they added all the freebie items, free loot/cash chests in town, chaos chests everywhere and safe zones, but can't tell yet how well it will work into the grand scheme of things.

What kind of character did you make? I just joined up and made a skirmisher the other day. I ran around a little through the training grounds but didn't play more than a couple minutes.

I played DF when it launched, the game was so unpolished, the PvP sucked and the intial grind was so gay.

Everyone just ran around naked b/c they didn't want to get ganked.

I don't see how their new game will be much better.

Go read about it. They took out the grind for one. I loved Rallos Zek pvp and people were naked because they were scared there too. Gear isn't as important on Darkfall.

The first darkfall was like UO where you could max out all types of skills. It had true freedom. The new version makes it so that you have to stick with a certain class so there is much less grinding. You can max out several skills and be viable in PvP.

Gear, it just isn't that important. You can gear up pretty quickly and replace stuff easily. You gain mass wealth so you can do bigger things than gear up your character, like build cities, etc.

Darkfall1 had the greatest pvp ever. It seems like they're slowing and dumbing it down a little bit with Unholy Wars but it should still be lots of fun. Can't wait until things get ironed out and they release the other roles/classes.

Darkfall1 had the greatest pvp ever.

Darkfall 1 at its end had less people on it than red99, which is why they had to completely remake their game

This game is such a fail that they haven't even figured out character persistence in the codedrop which was supposed to be good for launch. It's not even a beta. I cannot even imagine the issues which will make it into the release... of another boring ass game.

My only regret is that I let them take my money twice and I'm still playing eqemu. Shame on me.

I tried to login again yesterday and ended up with a black screen at character creation. After crtl alt deleting a few times, I was finally able to shut down Darkfall.

I hope my computer is okay and no permanent damage was done.

It definitely didn't have less than red99, but it wasn't because the pvp was bad anyway.

I disagree.

Some aspects of the pvp was good, but watching any of the hardcore pvp videos, you can see just how horrible the pvp and gameplay really was.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qv_8UF8lbX0

You had to juggle 2 dozen short duration buffs, while literally binding every ability in the game. Every player had every skill, so it was nothing but a clone war until the bitter end. There was next to no diversity. Yes, a great deal of skill was involved in aiming, twitch and mastering every school of magic and somehow managing to find logical bindings for that many abilities. Its just trash that a game would fail to create some sort of limitations on how many abilities you can truly be proficient in at one time ("roles": skill caps): thus, the gameplay sucked hard.

There were maybe a dozen buffs if that (only 2-3 of them really necessary), and most of them lasted 10-15 minutes+. The gameplay took an incredible amount of skill and yeah, there were a lot of keybinds, so what? No other MMO even begins to touch it. It was incredibly rewarding to beat people, especially when heavily outnumbered.

I've also never understood the whole "there HAVE to be coded roles in the mechanics of the game" thing. Everyone had their own individual playstyle and in a strong coordinated group everyone knew their role.

The combat was simply amazing. It's just a shame AV took too long to fix the grind, bugs/exploits from early on, and add more sandbox fluff.

Have to agree, I need to feel like a special unique little snowflake.

All the races and classes in EQ, and all the races/classes/runes (think sub classes) in Shadowbane made the game.

Not interested in rock vs rock vs rock clone wars.

I am hearing that this new darkfall is already dissolving into one giant afk macro grind though, so thats that.

Even Ultima Online had a skill cap, and thats what made the game amazing and diverse. YES, you can pick your skills and be your own character (even though a large portion of the population picked the same 2 or 3 builds), but when you allow everyone everything, its just a game of who capable of utilizing and binding the most abilities, not who is actually good and picking which abilities are useful in which situations. Everyone was everything always... if they were good. I've watched dozens of videos, and every good player does the same thing, wearing the same armor, casting the same spells, using the same weapons. Min/Max to the extreme.

Macroing in the new Darkfall is pointless. It will take a matter of weeks to get your skills up, even legitimately. I macro'd transfers and some abilities up to max in less than two days while I was sleeping. Thats a fraction of the old grind.

The bolded is exactly what being good in Darkfall was about. You can't learn everything about a game just by watching videos, especially a game as unique as Darkfall. There were no good players that said "oh I wish I could bind more abilities then I'd be good". That's just silly. It sounds like you had a lot of trouble with keybinds when/if you played DF, but it's just something that everyone got down if they wanted to start being a good player. Then came aiming, spell selection, teamwork, awareness, etc.

I still don't really understand the complaint about everyone doing everything... it's the ultimate balance, and the "everything" was such a huge variety of skills that there really were differences between people if you knew the game well enough.

I actually followed Darkfall for almost 10 years, played it in beta, launch and several times throughout its lifespan. I know exactly what the game was about.

No, never had any problems with keybindings or competing, I just didn't like the gameplay in it. Obviously I wasn't the only one, the game flopped and AV redesigned it, especially as it pertains the problems I stated above.

Hope it will be fun, but it may have an even rougher launch than the last one.

Shame.
