I expect cheaters to be banned. I think all will agree bouncerr proved that even though players are flagged for third party software they use it for months without banning. If a business is in place for over 3 years selling plat, then its either the smartest company to have sold plat, or is not being punished adequately. Want to take away rmt and make raids better make the high end epic items like Hand of maestro, inny staff, stone from inny, etc non mqable. Track people who make high end sales of 200k or more. If you need help i will personally sit and sift through all transfers made each day and trace the money sources. I dont believe just checking high plat trades with no items is key to finding rmt, cause alot im sure are like me and have a high end banker in ec tunnel to buy/sell, but when you can find 10 places to buy plat in under 3 minutes, not to mention numberous links to project99 mq2 then its a reality its taking place and heavily. Is there an easy solution, no. Is there a solution, yes. Follow the money and let the ban hammer follow that. The money has to come from some where. Follow it back to the guild the person is in, reveal it and ban whoever you must. I can tell you the server opinion is that the staff is in on the rmt, which personally i strongly believe you for 1 are not, but i do not put it past others. I have personally seen bias given to guilds even when evidence of training/kiting are fraps and turned in. I know every circumstance is different, but as a guild you are responsible for the members you harbor. If you see members train and are made aware of it and allow them to stay in guild, then you have taken on the responsibility of that player. Easiest way to remove cheaters is to remove opportunity. If you have proof of RMT transactions going on, please do send it our way. But we try not to ban innocent players -- something we admittedly do from time to time, and feel pretty terrible about even after we reverse it.

That said, the market in EverQuest is incredibly complicated, and items and money change hands very quickly. Many times, it's absolutely possible to trace things back, and ban those who are guilty. Sometimes though, it's not very clear.

We have some pretty good detection methods, and we investigate them all. But some of the suggestions even in this thread have been silly -- like banning people who trade items with nothing in return.... :eek:

But, like I said, if you have evidence of something, we'd love for you to send it in. We investigate everything we get, and we do take it very seriously.

Honestly can't say that I doubt it. I do also believe that the current system for tracking RMTs/boxers is completely inadequate. I reckon that a solid 60-80% of people doing both do not get caught. I'm unsure entirely if it's just because they don't have a decent system to track this stuff or if it's lack of volunteers as guides/gms, but rogean can always do another GM/guide app for the server to help.

What constitutes sufficient evidence of RMTing to be turned into the server staff for investigation? A /tell from someone saying they will sell something to you for real money? Too easy for someone to just play it off like "I was just kidding, bro." Plus, the professionals who allegedly make a significant income off of this activity aren't dumb enough to do that.

I imagine it would take some sort of proof of electronic transaction to a specific account, and then tying that account back to a EQ character name once the in-game trade is completed. And the only way for us, the player, to do that is to participate in the RMT itself and risking a ban ourselves. And why would we do that? Certainly the non-legit person doing RMT is completely okay with allowing RMT to happen, so they wouldn't be putting up the infos/screenshots.

If RMT were being punished at a significant rate, Platlord's business would suffer too much to continue. Even 1 in 10 transactions being caught would be enough to eat away at profit margins.

I don't care to speculate about why RMT continues and/or who's participating, but it's pretty clear that it's not being effectively combated given the fact that Platlord's business has been stable for this long.

You can't stop RMT entirely. When people want to quit, they have nothing to lose. Even 80% enforcement wouldn't stop RMT attempts from quitting players. But it would knock people like Platlord out of the game and make RMT less accessible to the general public. You'd pretty much have to know the seller to risk real money on a transaction that is even moderately likely to be caught and penalized.

IMO dedicating a single GM to combing through logs and investigating RMT might be a good idea, if anyone was interested. And if it's a priority of the staff. At the end of the day, there's a reason people are still fighting tooth and nail for pixels after accumulating the best gear in game, and it's not because they love stockpiling plat.

This issue is so highly overblown. Yes, there might be a few people around either with so much money or so few brains that they spend hundreds or thousands on P99 gear, but it seems far more likely that there are a few guys around with $40 to buy themselves an FBSS and a weapon when they start on the server.

From what I can tell, Platlord has become a sort of clearing house. He buys excess platinum from players and sells it. Is he making a little bit of cash with his 50% markup? Sure, maybe. Is he making thousands a month? That seems like a stretch, but maybe. Tens of thousands? That seems highly doubtful. Is it coming from TMO officers with their thorough accounting of everything and dozens of players in guild paying attention? That seems like the most doubtful thing of all.

Sure, we all see someone once in a while with gear that makes no sense for how much they suck at the game, but that could easily be someone's friend or family. I can think of many people from my real life that I'd happily powerlevel and twink up and they'd be a clueless scourge to their level 30-something groups afterwards and likely accused of RMT. From where I sit, the accusation of RMT seems much, much more common that the actual event.

Do you never transfer platinum or items between characters? I have five characters on three accounts and I frequently move high value items between them. I moved my BCG and a hiero cloak to my twink enchanter last week or the week before and I did it through a friend's level one EC mule. Three of my characters are good for farming and I frequently move platinum between them when I'm gathering funds for a big purchase.

If this task were easy, the staff would have already done it. You do them and their efforts a disservice by pretending it would be simple to solve complex problems.

Is he making thousands a month? That seems like a stretch, but maybe. Tens of thousands? That seems highly doubtful. Is it coming from TMO officers with their thorough accounting of everything and dozens of players in guild paying attention? That seems like the most doubtful thing of all.

Sure, we all see someone once in a while with gear that makes no sense for how much they suck at the game, but that could easily be someone's friend or family. I can think of many people from my real life that I'd happily powerlevel and twink up and they'd be a clueless scourge to their level 30-something groups afterwards and likely accused of RMT. From where I sit, the accusation of RMT seems much, much more common that the actual event.

Do you never transfer platinum or items between characters? I have five characters on three accounts and I frequently move high value items between them. I moved my BCG and a hiero cloak to my twink enchanter last week or the week before and I did it through a friend's level one EC mule. Three of my characters are good for farming and I frequently move platinum between them when I'm gathering funds for a big purchase.

If this task were easy, the staff would have already done it. You do them and their efforts a disservice by pretending it would be simple to solve complex problems.

Do you think those big sales are common? I'm not surprised they happen, but who has hundreds of dollars to spend on virtual items? Maybe I'm way off on this. I just thought that it would be unlikely for there to be many big ticket buyers with our population of two or three thousand active players. I'm a pretty straight shooter and I can be naive about things sometimes.
