That makes 0 sense. People always say they will never do things, until it is actually done. There are examples of the GMs implementing things on this server that are not classic. Bamzal is just saying the fact that yellow text isn't classic doesn't mean it won't and shouldn't be put in.

There is also not a server on classic that is the same as r99 pvp system. Free for all, with these level limits, coin loot, and exp loss on death.

The exp you gain in PvE isn't classic

Global /ooc isn't classic

Resist system is supposedly not classic

There needs to be careful planning and decision making when deciding to implement something that isn't classic, since for the most part, p99 gained popularity for being classic. The community is just saying, yellow text, much like global /ooc and faster exp, is one of those things that needs to be added.

Also, when did they say that they were not putting in yellow text? I haven't seen anything from a gm about it.

This server isn't being designed solely for you hardcore pvp'ers' ego contests. It's being designed as a Classic PvP Server. EQLive PvP Servers did not have serverwide messages for pvp deaths with the exception of duels (which we had active for a bit on P99 and even that got spammy). I'm sorry if you guys think this server will cater exclusively to the hardcore players that will be doing nothing but having huge guildwar battles over raid targets or controlling zonelines. The rest of the server will (hopefully) have a decent group of people that only resort to pvp as a necessity to resolve disputes, and may actually work together when grouping and etc, and won't be killing people just to get an orgasm out of everyone seeing their name. I do not think a broadcast system for pvp deaths will fit with this server.

Classic PVP didnt have this crappy custom purple game mechanic about xp loss in pvp so people can zerg PVE in peace, either, did it.

You cant have a well put together PVP server by someone who hates what classic Rallos was.

He just summed up what Rallos was, PK vs anti-PK all day every day. I was an anti-PK, there was plenty of cooperation between us, and im sure the PK guilds worked together to accomplish stuff as well. That doesnt change that the classic EQ experience on Rallos was one of constant warfare. I could go to sleep at 7 in the morning on a saturday after a night of pvp, wake up at 2 in the afternoon and guild vs guild fights in Crushbone would still be going on. Instead of catering to both gameplay experiences, the cooperation and the constant warfare, he chose to try to remove the warfare part of the classic EQ pvp experience and replace it with this hybrid "PVP as a last resort" purple poopcamp xp loss mechanic.

He made his mind up about what he wants this server to be, and its not something that fleshes out a Classic EQ pvp experience.

Hes just not a pvper and that transpires in the way hes setup the server. Doesnt have that pvp nose to emulate the really fun epic stuff that happened on Rallos, notably the Halloween event of 2001 where you had 205 players in eastern Karana/other event zones killing each other over event mobs that dropped nodrop loot on an item loot server. The organic way that Anti-PK guilds defended each other against PK players to try to down those event mobs, the sandboxiness of it all. Doesnt have that pvp nose to see that the constant pvp in EQ classic was alot of fun instead of viewing it as griefing and "hardcore". Took me 1.5 years to get to 44 because i spent so much time in each of the zones (Crushbone, Blackburrow, Nro, Oasis, Highkeep, etc etc) just having fun dukin it out for hours every day with other players. To know every inch of the maps where you could make an ambush because you fought there so often.

To me, grinding those hard, long 60 levels of PVE without some regular fresh air of laid back, pure fun pvp is whats hardcore.

No 6v6 duel comes even close to recreating something as fun as that classic PVP im talking about. No offense to Sirken, its still something.

And about YT: "It isnt classic", i could see the rationale there if he had an actual classic ruleset. But basically its touches here and there of P99 custom tweaks. Rogean just doesnt like PVP apart from being something you engage in once in a while to resolve camp disputes or some 6v6 duel events held every 4 months. Thats the main reason why it probably wont go in, not because it isnt classic. Im still persuaded though that it wouldnt change much. People would get excited at first but theres no way around the harsh xp loss, yellow text is not going to magically make people not care about having to grind tedious extra hours of PVE.

Heres what i think you need for a server to hold these 600 players we had at launch:

- Yellow text
- Item loot (1 no weapon)
- Custom nodrop sets to offset harshness of item loot, similar to halloween set, droppable items being always better.
- Coin loot
- Hotzones to bottleneck pvp
- Bars depleted on death in pvp, no xp loss
- XP fastened 25%

- Custom events periodically with event mobs that require no GM intervention and attracts PVP organically
Example off the top of my head:

- Mahdi the head Sand Giant, surrounded by his followers: Tough giant for a smallish 50+ raid crew with like 6 giants protecting him in Oasis that you have to solo pull before killing him, leaving time for other pvp crews to get there to try to cockblock.
-Ghost of Rogean in Kithicor moaning in a ghoul voice "I hate pvp" and "wheres my lightsaber", surrounded by star wars blue ghosts, things like that

I dont care if its not classic, most of the best fun i had in games was modded games. The trick is keeping it balanced.

the ONE time i put my mr gear on the earth pet still chain rooted me. i think i was at 92 or 98 mr. basically as soon as I dispelled it it would land again. I couldnt move at all so basically i just stood there getting backstabbed til I woke up in OOT naked. earth pet landing roots better than me. im jelly and mad.

I could dig up something you said telling me to not complain about resists here or something.

My issue with the custom resist system is more with disable spells than DD. You simply need way too much MR here to even get to 90% (that 10% is still game breaking), which then prevents you from being able to stack CR or FR to deal with other classes. If MR was classic, then you could stack CR or FR and have the custom resist system where nukes are still partially effective in a way not to completely neuter casters.

I atoned for my sins and confessed them in the resist thread.
