If you followed the above instructions, you should be able to run eqgame.exe without using the launcher, and the server list should show up just fine. Also, when running the eqemu launcher, just right click and you should pull up another menu that allows you to run eqgame.exe without having to select a server from the list. This will allow you to play.

I don't actually do this - not because my way is better, I just read this other tip first: I made a shortcut on my desktop to the eqgame.exe. If you do this, you have to add a space and "patchme" after the exe in the shortcut location.

1. Help! When I try to run eq, at some point before entering the game, I get an error that looks something like this:
The instruction at 0x029110ce referenced memory at 0xfffffffc. The memory could not be read

This solution to this is actually very simple. Go to your EQ folder. Find the file eqclient.ini and open it in a text editor (i use notepad, its the simplest to use)

hit ctrl+f, type windowedwidth, you should see something like this:

WindowedWidth=1280
WindowedHeight=768
Width=1280
Height=768
FullscreenBitsPerPixel=32
FullscreenRefreshRate=0
WidthWindowed=1280
HeightWindowed=768

change it to this:

WindowedWidth=800
WindowedHeight=600
Width=800
Height=600
FullscreenBitsPerPixel=32
FullscreenRefreshRate=0
WidthWindowed=800
HeightWindowed=600

I'm using 800 x 600 here, but you may need to fiddle with that a bit. If 800 x 600 isnt working, try using your monitors native resolution instead. Eventually, you will get a combination that works, just keep trying.

Im guessing you already tried this as well, but since you didn't mention it, I thought i'd post it anyway.

Please let me know if it's still not working and I'll give you some other solutions. Please try as many hxw (resolution) combos as possible before reposting, because 99% of the time this is the problem. Try low resolutions (640x480) as well as your monitors native resolution (usually the setting you are running your desktop in). Try as many combinations as you can before reposting, because again, 99.9999% of the time this is the issue.

ok, really confused now. i tried changing the screen sixe in eqclient. ini....didnt work...uninstalled titanium again, uninstalled eqemu and deleted all eq files from the pc. did a clean install of titanium and used the patchme workaround to launch. got me to a char select screen that said my spell files were outdated. so i dl'd the eqchanges25 file and unzipped it to my everquest folder.....launched again and now im back to the original error message....not even getting back to char select...../facepalm

What resolutions have you tried? post the section of your eqclient.ini file that I posted above, and let me know which ones you've tried.

My wifes computer has this same error, mine works fine, they are virtually identical and hers did work up to about spells vers 22 or 23. We haven't played in a while but mine works fine and now hers won't work! It has something to do with the dll file I replaced every file one at a time and could start it no problem each time, till I added the dll, something in there her comp doesn't like. XP sp3, geforce 9500 GT, xtreme sound 5.1. As I said it worked fine before and now it doesn't. :( I hope someone can help me before I end up in a body bag someplace ... heh :P Oh and yes I tried every res from 640-1600 using the steps mentioned above, doesn't help. Clean install drivers updated.

I had a similar errror: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application.

I had to uninstall .NET framework 4.0 and install 3.5. That was probably because I am running XP instead of windows 7 ...or 8

Found your error with my resolution : http://www.project1999.org/forums/archive/index.php/t-49938.html

.Net framework 3.5 from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21

And the service pack:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=25150
and after that, do windows update to get the updates ( might have to restart before and then go to windows update and manually check for updates )

Ok, I tried all that, deleted all the framework files it would let me and re-installed them, trying EQ as I went and still no joy. :( I appreciate the help though, but I guess I'll have to keep trying. I realized it worked on her old hard drive and we have a new one installed that is twice as big and I can't remember if it worked on the new one or not. It works from the old one if I boot from it so she's happy for the moment and I'll just keep trying on the new one when I have time. Again thank you for you attempt to help. :)

I am having this exact same problem as well. I have been gone for over a year and haven't started eqgame.exe since. I patched up to date the files for p1999 and tried to start EQ with no luck.

My .NET framework and service pack are both up to date. Running Chkdsk /r does not help.

I have no problems loading any other application on my system. My directx is up to date.
I've been googling this issue for days and tried everything short of reformatting my drive which I really do not want to do.

Did you try the 3.5 .NET framework? (4.0 is current)

Apparently 4.5 is now current. I am using 3.5.

Have you tried removing the .net framework completely...?

I'm not sure why it would work, but give it a shot lol.

Also, if 3.5 isnt working (make sure this was the version you installed!) try using an even older version to see what happens.

What was your OS again? Also, and I think you answered this already too but im having a bad morning and don't feel like reading back over the first page, do you have eq running as an administrator, and have you tried all the listed compatibility modes? Have you disabled visual themes and tried any other comp. options listed under the programs properties?

And lastly, did you try reinstalling everquest, making sure that it was installed as an administrator, and *not* in the program files folder? (install it to something like c:\everquest)

Let me know whats up after you've tried all that (reinstall EQ first, especialy if its in the program files folder, and *make sure* you run the installation as an admin by right clicking the setup file and clicking 'run as administrator')

Got this figured out. Heads up to anybody who experiences this in the future, its Norton360. Just uninstall that garbage, as even creating exemptions for eqgame and running it as administrator does not work. Soon as I removed this and rebooted EQ and the emu launcher both work just fine.

Norton 360 is absolute shit. Doesn't even work well as virus protection. Use avg/webroot/kaspersky's. Those are the best three on the market, with kaspersky's being the best by far (also the most complicated, however)

Oh, and thank you very much for letting us know about this :) i really appreciate it!

AVG was blocking mine causing the error.
