Should damage shield generate hate?

If I have a DS and go punch a mob 4 times and it hits me a bunch of times (and takes DS damage) and someone else comes up and punches it five times, should that person steal aggro? How was it on live?

I know on live now that DS generates no Agro. DS Pling have to sit to get mobs to agro me when plee is smacking them for dmg

I thought it would have more to do with the damage dealt from the punches rather than the amount of punches?

On live, DS caused no aggro. It was considered "unattributed damage." In fact, if 100% the damage a mob took was from a DS, it would just poof, leaving no corpse and awarding no experience, as if it was killed by an NPC.

aggro is based on swings and potential damage, hit or miss or damage done makes no difference.

Any Rogue who misses their first backstab knows this well.

It also doesn't count towards damage done by the source when considering assigning xp/the loot.
