Do you fully buff your pet , dot up the target and wait till its at around 65 percent hp then send in pet? Any other strategies to it?

There's really 3 options to use your pet while soloing.

1) Root and DOT. Send pet in either at the beginning or end, and just recall to allow enough time between this and the next mob for him to regen. *Could always slow to allow pet to melee more, but if you're not meleeing yourself I don't find this worth it.

2) Slow and DOT. Tank and melee the mob while your melee damage (Especially with a good weapon like Poison Wind Censer) and DOT rip it up. This way, you can buff both you and your pet and both can melee the entire fight.

3) DOT and kite with pet beating on it while you run away. I don't find this method to be that great, with the reduced DOT damage while the mob is moving but it can allow you to kill very difficult mobs that are otherwise impossible. The aggro from your DOTs should keep the mob on you and allow your pet to do damage without taking any.

Leveling up, a Shamans best pet is a monk or a rogue. Especially outdoors.
