My first attempt at audio (musical) editing. It's nothing amazing but let me know what you think.

It sounds like each song is on a distinctly different channel or w/e up until the chorus. Kind of like they were being played next to eachother rather than on a single track I guess? I know next to nothing about editing, but that's the only thing that really came to mind. I enjoyed it, though.

The vocals and the instrumentals are on seperate channels being played on top of each other from beginning to end. I know what you mean though, it definitely syncs up best at the chorus.

I don't listen to much mashup but it seems to me the tonality doesn't really match half the time for these two.

You're right the tones are pretty well off because Dream On is composed in F Minor and Don't Speak is in E flat major. I tried messing around with the pitch a bit but I only made it sound worse. Also I edited this in Sony Vegas which really isn't designed for audio.

the real answer is to make it a chipmunk song.

Someone explain the appeal of mashups to me. Is it like a fight club I wanted to destroy something beautiful type of thing?

As for the appeal of listening to mashups, hard to say. I doubt there are many people out there who actively search for and listen to mashups. The appeal of making them for most people is probably just the fact that it allows you to make a song that is new and unique without needing to be musically talented, and the hard work (creating the music) is already done for you.

As for me, I made this mashup mainly as a learning experience in regards to editing audio which I've never done before and wanted to give it a shot. I basically just wanted to see if I could pull it off and create something that wasn't absolutely cringeworthy and awful that people might actually enjoy listening to. I feel that I succeeded in this. Trust me it could have been a hell of a lot worse, like this:

<object width="420" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/IiKNGQLLKrc?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/IiKNGQLLKrc?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

for example.

Why would you ruin No Doubt with Aerosmith?
